As someone who lived in Charleston for 14 years and is a fellow foodie, definitely love Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit and Boxcar Betty’s. Poogan’s Porch is good, but I would have gone next door to Husk for “farm to table” lowcountry cuisine. Amen is good, but no question 167 Raw serves the best raw oysters in Charleston! And, for bar-b-que, Rodney Scott’s is very good “whole hog” bbq; but Lewis’ bbq is amazing! It is always a must visit when I return to Charleston! I think it’s the best “texas style” bbq I’ve ever had!
Wifey and I live about 2 hours north of Chucktown ( what us locals lovingly call it ) and go there at least once a month. Love all the great restaurants and night life. Our faves are, High Cotton, Halls Chop House, Oak, Palmetto Grill in the Charleston Place Hotel. Poogans Porch, SNOB (Slightly North Of Broad) and many others. Great town for sure. Great vid...
they got the name snob because i use to deliver seafood and instead of writing it all out we would just put snob on the box they didnt even know till i pointed it out that we called them snob. they liked it and adopted it so im kinda responsible
SNOB was my favorite for the longest time, I'd always get the carpaccio, cheese plate, and rack of lamb, I visited twice a year and stayed at the Doubletree or Charles Pinkney and walked to it. Unfortunately the traffic got much worse and I haven't been in a few years. Poe's on Sullivan's Island was always a good place to hang out.
I loved this video! I'm a Charleston boy and am so glad that you liked my town and our food. I hope that you did get to try Shrimp and Grits while you were here.
Next time visit spring or fall, either is great since it's not hot or as crowded (When was this filmed, winter?) and it's oyster season. Meet some locals, buy them a few drinks, then ask them to have you over for an oyster roast and lowcountry boil. Nothing beats an old fashioned lowcountry oyster roast in the back yard, especially if they have a beach house or live on a creek. A lowcountry boil is the lowcountry version of a New England clambake. It's new potatoes (the smallish red round ones) corn on the cob, Polish kielbasa or sausage, and shrimp, boiled with lots of Old Bay. Some people throw in lemons and/or blue crabs. Beach houses are cheaper off season to rent. Rather than a hotel go on Airbnb or call a realtor on Folly Beach and rent a house and stay for a week.
If you really want to hit the oysters come back in February and go to the Lowcountry oyster fest at Boone Hall Plantation, all you can eat and advance tickets are like $25. Of course there’s lots of live music & adult beverages available, get there early it gets busy quick.
I live in Charleston, how do yall get your suggestions? this is a thorough research of places! i've never heard of the wreck but i looked it up and it was in mount pleasant. If you come back to Charleston definitely get some seafood from folly beach !!
The icecream shop and the bbq., restaurant aren’t where the locals go. Most of the places you visited infact weren’t where the locals go. You did the tourist thing, glad you enjoyed it.
Omg Rodney Scott’s is the best however you missed the star of the show and that is their Ribs !!!! They are the BEST period !! We took 2 racks back home with us
