Make sure and visit the French Quarter, sometimes called the Historic District. King Street in Charleston is also nice; if you can, second Sunday on King street is nice with street musicians etc. There are tons of festivals (Spoleto being the big one). Check out the Battery, the Sea Wall, and the park with the Pineapple Fountain...forget what it is called. Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant (right next to Charleston) is great for some dining along the water. Make sure and walk along the salt marsh docks in the county park while there (it's free!). As far as beaches, Folly Beach and Isle of Palms are the closest to Charleston; Kiawah Island is also pretty close (about 45 minutes away) and a bit less touristy.

I was born in Charleston. My dad was in the Navy. We moved back when I was a senior in high school at Summerville. Now live in Richmond Va. don’t visit between 1 May - 30 Sep. it’s very hot and humid!
