Charley Pride is the soundtrack of my childhood, he was my mom's favorite singer. He was introduced there by Marty Stuart, who is a Grand Ole Opry member himself, Marty was married to one of Johnny Cash's daughters at one time, but is now married to another Opry member and country legend herself, Connie Smith.

Mr. Prides music was so popular in the 70s that it played on country radio all the time. And 'kiss an angel" was a staple for every country band playing in Honky tonks.

Is Anybody Going To San Antone was the first country song that I ever paid any attention to. From that point forward I was a big fan of Charlie Pride. Got to see him in concert before he passed. I treasure that.

Charlie Pride, from Sledge, Mississippi, was introduced by Marty Stuart, from Philadelphia, MS, which is about 30 miles from my hometown, Louisville, MS, which is also the hometown of Carl Jackson who is very well known in the Nashville area as a top-notch songwriter, musician and producer.

One of the most loved and respected Country artists of all time. A kind and gentle man that no one has ever said a bad word about. Other great songs include: 'All I Have to Offer You is Me" and "Roll on, Mississippi". Won Entertainer of the Year a few times as well as being in the COuntry Music Hall of Fame, Lifetime Achievement Award and many more awards.

That's pretty close to the studio version, but Marty Stuart referring to his Fabulous Superlatives means that's a performance from the 21st century. Shows that his voice held up quite well.

Charlie Pride was black, yet the fans and audiences who supported him were largely white, southern, and rural--hence ruining the mainstream narrative. I have always found that there is more that unites us than divides us. Charley had a lot of hits. My favorite is "Snakes Crawl at Night." That song always brings me back to the summer evenings with the crickets, frogs, and the rest of nature's chorus singing.

you gotta do a deep dive on this guy, "the snakes crawl at night" a cheatin song Ka-Liga and is anybody goin to San Antone (san antonio) are country classics. ive listened to this man's voice since i was 5 years old (53 years ago)
