Yeah this is getting complicated. Might even be time to start an excel spreadsheet! The two Rainbow Charlie stories were recorded in 1985, so it would seem they were picked up by collins/tempo later on. I know most of the enid blyton rainbow tapes from 1983 were rereleased by tempo in about 1990. Rene Artois told me about this and I have bought a few of them to verify the recordings. I also saw on ebay a tempo recording of the witches from 1983 which I bet is the same as the collins one I posted a while back. So basically Rainbow, Tempo and Collins all ended up the same thing. It doesn't help when rereleasesdon't mention the original recording date because it makes them look like new recordings. I have even seen newer rebranded Collins tapes, which are all the same roald dahl recordings published again. Phew. I need a drink!

@@TheMonkeyGrinder Probably like how Disney fiims get rereleased on a certain year. There is a recording of The Witches narrated by Christian Rodska on here now if that is it? Also, I don't know why they didn't credit the actresses for Violet, Veruca, Mrs. Bucket and the grandmas (it seems a safe assumption that Charlie's actor also did Mike and Augustus).

@@user-vh6ts9uf6c Join the club. This is the Rainbow one but somehow how pushed to HarperCollins. The cast list is a mess (not from Monkey Grinder but from the published piece); the narrator eventually introduces himself as Willy Wonka, therefore Andrew Sachs IS Willy Wonka, not Gordon Fairclough (or the other way around). I wish they publishers made more of an effort with this.

It sounds more like Christian Rodska.

I think it is likely to be Christian Rodska as TeenFox says, because the main cast play multiple characters on these recordings.

​@@foxteen8721All I know is that Mrs Beauregard, Mrs Bucket, Grandma Georgina and Augustus Gloop are done by Susan Sheridan. Noddy's Toyland Adventures is a perfect example, you can hear the voices are a perfect match.

I have the BFG on the way, so we shall find out! It looks like it is originally an old Tempo production as I don't think the Rainbow ones ran over an hour.

In all fairness you are probably right. I have given up trying to track down the accurate cast names because the ones in the liner notes don't always add up, or have names/characters missing. I am just typing up the names Collins puts on the tapes and leaving at that.

Perhaps he may have done just the introduction. I know that Gordon Fairclough actually narrates the story as Willy Wonka.

The voice at the very beginning is not Andrew Sachs as far as I can tell, but the narration throughout the story is. The cast info I listed in the video description is taken straight from the liner notes of the cassette. It does sound like Andrew Sachs, but obviously he is voice acting so his performance won't sound like him in interviews etc.
