Watching this several years later really gives me a chuckle. The Sky/Game of Thrones thing was brilliant! I am in Tokyo and was here during the quakes and afterwards. I didn't evacuate either. The media coverage was bizarre - both in and outside Japan, for all sorts of reasons. The best (for me) was the Fox story where they thought that 'Shibuya Eggman' was a reactor!
Found out about this guy from Have I got News for You. I am Canadian, man is this guy a treasure. So much more talent than Trevor Noah on The Daily Show. Such a great satirist
It doesn't seem to concern TV networks that people from all walks of life, from professional satirists to RU-vid commenters, are becoming more vocal in their criticism of T.V.'s plummeting quality. T.V. people have defaulted to obscene self-congratulation for so long they can't view themselves with even the slightest humility.
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT I'm in Tokyo and this is the best representation of the effluent that has been flowing. As well as Charlie Brooker being absolutely on the nose with heartfelt, direct but sparing respect for the horror that was last week.
it wasnt that the joke itself is funny, it's that the FACT of it is funny most likely, they werent laughing approvingly at the joke, but laughing mockingly at 50 cent being an idiot
Twitter has whatever function is wants, more or less (not that i use it) but one function in particular is that it has (at least theoretically) no censorship, thus people ought to expect offensive content. 50 Cent never established himself as a comic, no but who the fuck gets to appoint with that arbitrary privilege to comics? And who's going to be offended? Like the Japanese were checking what 50 Cent had to say as their homes were getting soggy?
No censorship doesn't exempt him from public opinion. I'm sure there were a lot of people out there who thought 50 Cent's tweet was quite funny. Charlie didn't. And, this is just conjecture on my part, but I'll bet more people responded negatively to it than positively. There's no censorship, but there's also no guarantee that what you say will be well-received, either.
I'm sorry, and although I really dislike 50 cent as an artist (or anything ells for that matter) and I fucking love Charlie Brooker, I don't understand what the fucking fuss is about? Yeah, he made an outrageous joke. Charlie would never stand for that would he? Leaving the fact that Charlie himself isn't terribly careful about not being offensive aside, he was on the program with JIMMY FUCKING CARR. I hate seeing hypocrisy from someone I love to agree with
I think 2 people from Sky News watched this. This was brilliant. I've given up on watching CNN's coverage of this, disgusted by their logos, dramatic music and catch-phrase names. They've now moved on to the situation in Libya... also with logos / cop drama music / catch-phrase. It's ludicrous.
what's worrying is that some people think its ok for a guy named 50 cent to display his apparently outstanding sense of humour during a tragedy. We all love humour and it works because it makes us comfortable with imperfection and lightens things up. But if 50 cent is so insecure that he needs to get superiority boosts by making fun of a tragedy, I wonder if he's mentally stable. Actually, that might explain calling him intelligent- some people think psychos are also geniuses.
That's why I'm getting my explanations not from the so called media but from the RU-vid channel sixtysymbols. There real scientists from the university of Nottingham explain these things.
Excellent! I am in Yokohama and also stayed (even if I am on holiday). While I understand that words like "nuclear", "radiation" and meltdown might scare most people, the shameful wave of panic spread by the media should be an indication that we must not rely on such irresponsible coverage for our news. Lets boycott all the media that displayed such acts of "media-terrorism"!!!

I think this whole show has the air of writers telling charlie what to say... with kind of mundane punch lines in a similar boring vein to presenters like john oliver or those awful american ones who rely on bottled laughter and forcing themselves to laugh hysterically at everything rather than actual jokes
The difference between Jimmy Carr and 50 cent is that Jimmy had established himself as a comedian, he entertains people with his funny, if also offensive, and with lack of sympathy, jokes. 50 cent had nothing of the sorts on him (at least I'm not aware of it). There is also the medium with which it was told, Frankie Boyle's Adlington controversy began in Mock the Week, where its whole point was to scrutinize and make fun of the news and famous people, last I check twitter had no such function.

Laughing at the absurdity of a remark like that does not gain 50 Cent any respect. No-one was laughing because they thought it was a good joke; in fact, just how tasteless and shit it was is precisely why people were laughing.
Spectre500 How do u know why they were laughing? I think the joke was pretty innocuous and everyone's just projecting how they feel about 50 cent on it. You don't need a special handshake to be allowed to crack a joke. I think the U.S. media desperately trying to make this tragedy about them is far more insidious.
