Charalie Chan was based on a real Honolulu detective from the early 1900s named Chang Apana . His real story is a good one all by itself .

1940's, that era, WW11, society was so different, patriotism was strong, the nation came together like no other time in history. These movies have an innocence to them.

In a way you are right as long as you count out the racism and the sexism of that time! Then you could call them innocent!

Sidney Toler was my favorite Charlie Chan. Even his #1 son who I put up with for the love of Chan, wasn't as stupid as the other #1 sons..The supporting cast was always great-only to be sidelined by Hollywood's insistence of making it a comedy tho-Hence, the #1 dumb son! Still looking for Chan movies sans son-Trying to be both a mystery drama and comedy, in my mind, always equals comedy. I don't do that kinda comedy. Too silly. Still love Sidney T. Forever ❤️

@@dpainter1526me, too. I like all the sons: #1 Lee, #2 Jimmy, #3 Tommy, #4 Eddie and Charlie Jr. and Willie. I also love it when we get to see Charlie's daughters, like Iris and Frances, and, especially, when we get to see the entire Chan Clan like in CC at the Circus or CC in Honolulu.

Chan was a lousy detective. In order for him to solve crime at least three people die around him while he is investigating.

Yes, the poster not only gets paid by the numbers of views but also through Adsense...or I think it is called Adsense. Anyway, the poster and RU-vid get ad revenue.
