I watched this clip probably a thousand times and only just now realised Chaplin looks at the camera everytime our attention is focused elsewhere. Not only was he still being a good director, he knew when to do it during the film. Goddamn legend

I'm amazed that these deleted scenes from Chaplin's films have survived! Hours of footage and even entire films from that era haven't been so lucky. Especially those shot on nitrate stock. I know Chaplin did a lot of his own editing, he must have kept an archive of deleted footage or something.

Having children with his wife at 70 yrs old, still working and stating that "time is my only enemy" because he still wanted to do so much more in life, he wasn't done yet,......watching his brilliance shine through his videos makes me feel so mediocre with my life.
