I absolutely love the faraway looks that Charlie gets on his face when he plays. What a laid back, awesome, talented genius. I've never seen or heard of Carter McLean before but I now have someone to research because this drumming melted my face off! 27:20 - about 28:48 made me stop everything I was doing. What a badass!

Literally an exceptional drummer who can play in a trio for 2 hours without having rehearsed and who at the end of each song concludes perfectly at the same time as the other musicians who had rehearsed.

@@erastusc4908 Ahhh, nope :D you're talking about _triple strokes._ It's still 16th notes, he just doesn't play the 'e' of each beat. I was talking about the dynamics, choosing to play hard on the '&' of the beat gives it a great funky vibe. Charlie sees that too. Now triplets would be what Carter plays at 17:19 ! Those are triplets

David Arbelaez Lol no cause if I did then I expect everybody to be Charlie. He uses 100 and peaks at 120 at which point he needs a drum solo or dialogue

@David Arbelaez We use maybe 70% maximum of our brains. we do not mobilize all our cerebral capacities at the same time. Depending on the activity carried out, different areas of the organ will be more or less solicited: vision, understanding of language, calculation, immediate and long-term memory, coordination of gestures, etc.

Charlie came up in a band called TJ Kirk that stood for Thelonious Monk, James Brown, and Rashaan Roland Kirk. They played a fusion of jazz, blues, funk, rock, and even what seems like hip hop at times. Charlie definitely can't be placed in one genre.

Great video. Guitar went out of tune a few times during Jealous guy but Charlie kept on playing regardless. He didn't seem to let it get to him. It's almost as if if tried to avoid the top string because he knew it was going out of tune. A sign of a true professional. And he didn't lose a beat! Great sense of rhythm. Cheers, Joe

Nice one Joe! The high E string was clearly flat during Jealous Guy. Charlie grimaced (more than normal) and on the third run of that phrase, he tuned the string up a bit.

@@dmljones2550 Charlie totally knew the lick. Pretty common for jazz guys to do off the cuff quotes of songs they love. And at 8:15 they're jamming John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" so you know Charlie's a Beatles fan.
