To be fair I'd argue the most important part of the "transcription" process is hearing the music and being able to replicate it as closely as possible with all the nuances. Writing it down might help with keeping a record, or helping to visualize why the lines might work theoretically, but for most I don't think its that essential for learning to improvise. Which is why at this point I think a lot of people just use the term "lift" and "transcription" somewhat interchangeably.
