Two months after the annual Purge night comes to an end, Charlie Roan, goes onto winning the the Presidential Election.
The Purge: Election Year (2016) - As a young woman, Sen. Charlie Roan survived the annual night of lawlessness that took the lives of her family members. As a presidential candidate, Roan is determined to end the yearly tradition of blood lust once and for all. When her opponents hatch a deadly scheme, the senator finds herself trapped on the streets of Washington, D.C., just as the latest Purge gets underway. Now, it's up to Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo), her head of security, to keep her alive during the next 12 hours of mayhem.

I like to imagine after she was elected she honored him in some way. Either she gave him a posthumous medal or named an achievement after him for his sacrifice to protect the country. At the very least mentioned him in a speech about how and why she was still there.

It states in the beginning of the movie that Charlie Roan is an independent candidate, and the bishop was the NFFA candidate. There was also another candidate on the debate stage, but she is never seen or referred to again in the movie. It wasn’t a republican vs democrat election, it was purge vs no purge.

If the amedment process is still the same in this timeline. Roan cannot take away the Purge because the executive branch doesn't play a role in the amendment process. If the information is correct, the Purge is the 28th amendment. So in order to remove it, it will require two thirds of both the House and Senate, and three fourths of all states to approve it.

In the trailer, a few soldiers are shown on the ruined streets of a city/town, indicating Roan declared Martial Law in that area and sent the National Guard to quell the Pro-Purge mobs.

The Purge is in the constitution in this timeline. Its the 28th amendment. Assuming the amendment process is the same as ours, Roan cannot take action to remove the purge unless two thirds of both houses of Congress and three fourths of all states approve to remove the Purge. Even then, Roan can push for the removal of the Purge, but the executive branch doesn't play a role in amending the constitution.
