This is an edited discussion of MGM musicals from Charlie Rose: July 14, 1997. Charlie Rose asks Van about his memories filming "Brigadoon" with Vincente Minnelli , Gene Kelly, and Cyd Charisse. As a young chorus boy, Van was Gene Kelly's understudy for Pal Joey on Broadway. In this clip he is 80 years old and notably hard of hearing but can unquestionably engage his audience. The two photographs at the end of this clip are Clark Gable and Van Johnson playing checkers between takes during the filming of "Command Decision" and an autographed birthday present from Gene Kelly to Van Johnson from Van's personal estate. Van was an avid autograph collector.
