I've waited a while to do this foundation Review. The Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation has been around a while and to be honest I've always struggled with it. Let's see if I have more luck with it today on my dry over 40 skin.

CONTACT LENSES
I sometimes wear contact lenses in my videos. My eyes are naturally browny/orange, but I like to switch things up with green/blue/grey contacts. Recently I was sent some coloured contacts from a company called TTDEYE who deal with both cosmetic and prescription lenses. I LOVE THEM!!!!

My skin type is combi/dry most of the month, but when hormonal, my skin gets very oily around my t-zone. It's very unpredictable (thanks skin) and I suffer from breakouts (mostly hormonal breakouts...thanks again hormones!)

I have learned how to correctly apply foundation from watching your videos. I was having the same problem before with the CYO Lifeproof foundation, where I was applying too much product. (I have a large stash of this discontinued product!) Now I apply it exactly the way you do and I'm loving it. Thank you so much. You should be enjoying high end/luxury foundations! I had exactly the same problem with this CT foundation- thought it was just my problematic 46 year old, combo skin. Thank you Gemma for this review, I feel like I paid a huge amount of money for a foundation that looks beautiful for 3 hours.

So glad to hear it’s not just me!! I’m Australian and was so excited to visit the US and be able to purchase this foundation but I’ve had the same experience. It looks BOMB when first applied but within a few hours it settled into pores (& I don’t have big pores), separated around my nose/chin and just looks disgusting up close. I’ve tried every manner of application/primers/powders/setting sprays to no avail. Now I just use it if I know I’m only going to be out for a couple of hours.....it’s getting used up during iso when I have to pop out for groceries or for zoom calls.

I tried a sample of this from Sephora and it was a no-go!! I'm not sure why but it just starts to 'fall apart', for me it's around the mouth and eyebrows. AND I do not have dry patches, I do not use Retin-A. Thank you, as always for your integrity and honesty.

The key I’ve found to this foundation is to lightly apply powder in my problem areas. It’s become one of my favorites but only after I apply that light coat of powder. Her airbrush compact powder is perfection with it.

I find if I mix this with the Hollywood Flawless Filter, and apply it with a damp sponge, I get a much nicer look and it wears better. For reference, I am normal to dry.

Wasn't really planning on buying this anyway - but this has just made me completely sure. Sadly, I've had bad results from every CT product that I've tried - I guess its just not for me, which is probably good and will save me money! Great review, as usual.

I also have so many issues with this! I have tried it with so many different primers and moisturisers and TINY amounts like you did and it always ends up looking patchy, cakey, spotted, chalky or clumpy. I don’t want to give up on it as it’s pricey but it just won’t work for me! Thankyou for the video, I’m glad I’m not the only one!!!x

It says: no primer needed. My foundation looks good with a stiff brush and a very small amount. Maybe this is good for you too?

Gotta say I’ve seen so many more foundations look so much better on you- this just confirms that this is a no go for me. I’m turning 56 in June with normal to dry skin. My skin is in great shape and I , like you, prefer a more natural not full coverage look for my every day . This looked lovely at first but still very makeupy but as day wore on just not flattering:( I’ve been tempted to try this so huge thank you for saving me some $$$😊 I love all things CT and especially love her Light Wonder foundation. And in summer I will mostly wear her Unisex Healthy Glow with a bit of concealer - stunning on the skin! Thanks so much for sharing and testing! Hi Gemma, I have this foundation and have the same issue of cakeyness in the chin and laugh line areas. I’m glad to discover I’m not the only one! I, too, thought I was doing something wrong. It’s unfortunate as it is expensive $53 CDN dollars from Sephora. I use Kevin Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer 2 part system with the primer and like it better for long wear and coverage.

I loved this foundation upon application but half way through the day it started to get really weird around the mouth and nose. Would be great to see you try out the Urban Decay stay naked foundation, its everything that I hoped the Charlotte Tilbury one woukd be. Great video hun x

I have not tried Charlotte Tilbury, but almost all foundations I have tried have the same issues you just listed. I have tried high end foundations as well as drugstore brands , but I have yet to find a foundation that truly works on my skin. During our stay in place order and during the summer I try to get by with skincare products, eye products and lipstick. I look forward to your next review. Hopefully you will find the one that will work for me.

Couldn't wait to get my hands on this foundation and after being shade matched and buying it, like that I just don't get along with this foundation. Some days good & that would be minimal, but most of the time I hated it, so given up on it and have stopped wearing it altogether. 😔😉

I have experienced something very similar with this foundation and I’m oily/ combination at the moment. Foundation looks beautiful for 2-3 hours then settles into fine lines (even ones I didn’t realise I had) and brakes up leaving my skin looking patchy. My partner and little sister who is not into makeup nor comment on my makeup had to make a comment on my fine lines and patchiness (so I knew it wore badly and very quickly) will use the bottle up on quick outings but not repurchasing. Picked my Estée Lauder stay in place again and used sparingly and had the most amazing compliments xx

I've tried this foundation every which way and always within a couple if hours it looks a complete mess. I use a tiny amount compared to every other foundation but it still goes cakey and splits apart on my chin and nose, sinks into my fine lines and one touch and it's got a missing spot of foundation :-(

Yes! This IS a finicky foundation for sure. Somedays I feel like the cats meow and others...not so much. However I took some advice and to save the foundation I bought her Light Wonder foundation and mixed them....WOW...flawless and a very lovely sheen to the skin.I generally use more of the light wonder when I mix. I think you may like it better. I have normal/dry skin and when I use it this way it doesn't settle into my lines at all.Also maybe trying to mix it with a face oil if you don't want to buy the other foundation but even ifyou don't like the mix you would likely really love the light wonder.

Looked nice in the beginning! I didn’t care for the foundation, can’t recall why. I received a deluxe sample, and tried numerous times... I probably used too much. I’m going to try again, using a lot less... will advise! 😉

Omg I’ve tried this foundation every way I possibly can and it just looks so heavy even though I’ve used a small amount. I gave up and gave it to my daughter. I’m 52 and she’s 24. I was so disappointed as I had such high hopes

Hi Gemma, I also have had the same results. I wear #3 N and apply very thinly. About 4-5 hours in I notice it starts breaking apart on the chin and around my nose. I've tried everything to try to stop this from happening, but to no avail. The sad part is I love tone of this foundation and the finish to start. I have tried the Magic Foundation and it seems to perform a tad bit better, but it gets a bit too dewy at the 4-5 hour mark....maybe we should mix the two?!!!

im struggling with any foundation at the moment dont no whats going on. Goes horrible on my nose looks like its just slipping off or it goes cakey. I always had good skin never had a skincare routine and my skin was always good. Now 35 and this problem started in the last 1.5 year, had to start a skin care routine and its made a huge difference to condition of my skin. But still not got to the bottom of foundation problem. I never use full coverage either as that just does not look right anywhere on my skin.

I dont know if youve heard of FM cosmetics but I would love you to review their makeup. I have just bought their blur effect foundation and its really lovely (Im 40 and gives a gorgeous smoothing effect). Its about £16 but definitely one you should try ❤

I have combo skin and I feel the same I don't understand this foundation it wears beautifully at the beginning but sometimes it's start to look heavy or settling in my fine lines in certain parts of my face even though I use just a tiny bit, so I I'm trying to mix it with other foundations ..I want to figure it out ...

Oh I totally agree. I was given a sample of this and tried it for 2 weeks 1 week with hourglass veil primer and the next week with Fenty hydrating primer and each day the foundation went on great but within 4/5 hours it was cakey, particularly by my jaw, nose & forehead (I’m combination) and also if I left it on for too long my skin almost felt numb in these areas 🤷‍♀️ no idea why that was. I could of lived with this it didn’t hurt just was weird but the fact that i never knew how she was going to behave was enough for me to not invest in it...And no way was I investing in the “Magic cream” as the consultant at CT suggested when I went back to the department store and gave my feedback as I said I would...it felt a little like a ploy “oh it only really works if you have the magic cream underneath as it needs a really hydrating moisturiser as a base” 😱 Hard pass from me I’m afraid....but love the contour wand and flawless filter primer from CT that gets a big 👍🏻

Thanks! I’ve heard the flower beauty light illusion foundation is a good affordable dupe for this and it’s only $12. I have used it and it’s really good! But it does the same on me... it doesn’t want to like me some days and others it’s good. So I’ll stick to my maybelline fit me instead.

I ordered a sample of this and I had the exact same problem. My chin looked like the surface of the moon by the end of the day! I love Charlotte Tilbury but this one just isn’t worth the price point. Ps. What did you put on your roots? They looked amazing at the end x

I had the exact same experience with this foundation it was a mess after maybe 4/5 hours, it looked like talc was on my skin mixed with my foundation. I did go into Charlotte Tilbury only to be told I was old (47) and needed to use the Charlotte Tilbury powder with the foudation. I had the same results a complete disaster. I gave mine away.

Its so true its always different i have same issue with it. Sometimes it looks really good sometimes i dont agree i think how its supposed to be applied the money making game you really should get the magic cream and the hollywood primer then it performs. I hv same reaction but some days it looks better as the days go on your opions are same as mine. But i brough 8 shades of different colours so thinking of returning them but have to keep mine till its finished then i think il try hudha beauty or estee laurder for my next one. When you apply this foundation never put too much on your lines or scarring because it will make it appear worse by the end of the day, always cleanse tone your skin first before priming it is a little time consuming this foundation but its meant to applied in tiny couple of dots were you have good skin parts then use the excess over other areas then if you need go over in the same way . I dont apple powder either but the last time i wore it i had to use translucent near my pors i think its thin foundation but i cant understand this foundation either i have lots of make up from Charlie tilbury for clients i think aswell its how you look at your skin as others as what foundation ive used but it does pply flawless at the start. Im going to just use this then end this line i think or keep till i buy next one. Thank you for great review was very helpful take care

I’ve had the same experience. The only way I can wear it is mixed with a serum but for the price and compared to other foundations, I don’t think thats good enough so I wouldn’t purchase it again.

I have found that if applied with the Wonder cream it works better but that was another added investment which I hadn’t and really shouldn’t have had to make for this foundation to work. I am going to try to use up the bottle but I won’t purchase again. When the foundation arrived it had about 6 packs of the wonder cream with it and that should have been my warning about how the foundation was going to work. Thanks 🙏

Have you done a video on MAC Face and Body foundation? I hear it’s applied differently and some re-learning is necessary for success, which is why I need your expertise. It’s also said what you think are the results is not pleasing but then it changes to perfection. From what I read there is no foundation better so I’m curious. Sounds like a challenge. Few colors here and I’m afraid of choosing the wrong one. Don’t ask me to depend on the clerk because they ALWAYS pick darker. (They must think my foundation is too pale when I walk in the store when actually it’s even paler underneath, lol.) I’m a cool, pale which seems to make the pros want to change that. Good luck to them!

Loved the coverage but of course it accentuated all my lines and dry areas. But it also oxidized terribly which is a deal breaker for me.

Gemma, have you done a sweat and oily skin proof makeup review or best buys for light coverage? I’ve recently just bought supergoops matte skin spf40....wow! I’m blown away, it is so good. My oily skin is transformed and pores minimised. I put it on over my normal moisturiser, it has a slight tint. Really it is so good. I’m 37 coming 38.

I haven't tried but the problem you describe with CT flawless foundation is one I experience with Revlon foundation which I find rather curious

I wasn’t blown away by this foundation but I really couldn’t find a good colour match either the colours are just off I much prefer like the doublewesr in comparison as I find these kind of similar

Worth knowing that you CAN send lightly used products back to Charlotte Tilbury within a certain length of time. So I'm going to try this foundation. If it doesn't suit after a few days of wear, I will return it

I returned it. It was a ghastly foundation on me. Looked superb when I first applied it, but it went very cakey, separated and patches came off after 3 hours. Back to doublewear for me

My only problem with the foundation is that it is too warm in tone. I have the same color as you (3n) and I expected it to be neutral, but it isn’t. If I used the cool tone, I am afraid I would look like a little pink piggy, which is not the image I wish to convey. But, it does go on beautifully, airbrushes my crater-like pores, and covers everything that needs covering. It does eventually sink into the scaring I have from a facial that went awry, but all foundations do that. I also have the “good one day, bad the next,” but I have that with all foundations. I just figure my skin is having a bad day. Maybe something I ate?

Hi gemma i have a question. I dont wear foundation or bb cream as i have a few pimples that get very dry and then the make up cakes around it making it look awful. Is there anything i can do to cover them up? I already use face wash face oil and moisturiser daily which helps but i still get dry patch spots. At 34 i would like to be able to apply make up like a 34 year old lol

This reminds me of L’Oréal Freshwear 24 Hour. It looks just like this on me after a few hours. So no need to spend more money on CT if it gives that same result. TFS! 💜❤️💚

I am not able to wear it dries my face, I’ve tried so many different primers with it, moisturizers etc. mixed it with oil still too drying.

I tried this foundation in the right colour for me (3N) and OMG did it oxidise within minutes. I was bright orange! Make sure you order a couple of shades down

I agree with you 100%. And I feel some of Charlotte Tilbury’s products are completely overrated! But only my opinion! I would love to like it but Nars for example...100 times better!

I find that in fact most people (and most skin textures and ages) struggle with this foundation, and the trick I found that works, is mixing it with the CT Light Wonder to make it thinner and not so full coverage. Have you tried it? If I do not do that I simply use it for special occasions only, when its a night out or a party, and I know I am only going to wear it for a maiximum of 5-6 hours. I have seen that RU-vidr Tara Lynn use this foundation with dotting a moist beauty sponge with setting spray over it after buffing it out, but that can lift the foundation when I try to do so. Have you tried that?

All I can say is “SAAAAAAME” I cant figure it out. It slides off my nose. Sometimes it breaks apart. Sometimes I look like a supermodel. Literally it’s a gamble. I only use on weekends but not for work or days days where I need something reliable.

I have been using this for about 10 months now, and find that it doesn't dry down atall on me, and I have very dry skin. I end up using alot of powder, then it goes cakey. But overall, I find that blending it too much, makes it go cakey

I've not bought this so I was really hoping it would be brilliant. Sadly my IQ isn't high enough to try to work out the best combination to have it perform well, and my patience steady enough for me to keep trying to make it work (without throwing it against a hard wall .... wouldn't really do that but it would be satisfying 😂). Full marks for giving it an intensive trial and error period tho. 🌸🌺🌸🌺🌸

people say that putting eyeshadow primer on the nose helps foundation stay on longer but it's just something I've heard not tried.

I have a few suggestions: •Try powdering your nose first •Try using a concealer instead of foundation •Do your nose last and don’t apply any new foundation - just what is left on your brush •Try a matte primer or a sticky one like milk hydrogrip Overall it can be a trial and error to see what works for you on any given day. Whatever you do try and use the least amount of product as possible. Hope one of them works!!

I agree this foundation can be a mess .... sometimes. Never sure to get the same results everytime. However, I have found a way to make it work for me. I mix Zoeva 50N authentik foundation (a little too cool and light for me. I went off reviews saying it was a bit yellow and oxidised!) and CT 5 warm. I don't use a huge amount of product, less is more. The colour of CT with the Zoeva texture is perfect for me! For info I am 45, slightly oily skin, visible pores but not so many wrinkles(thanks oily skin!). Try mixing this foundation with another; on its own, it's dreadful and unreliable.
