I was born in the Martha Jefferson Hosp. in June, 1934 and grew up in the family home (104 Woodrow St.), which was built for my father (student) in 1924-25. In those days, C'ville was an idyllic place. It is no longer, and that transition became clear when I graduated from med school there. It's all real estate and tourism and a failing university from what I remember. Progress has been most unkind to Charlottesville.
