Charvel moved to mexico(Baja California) only because japan had the sunami'. All the good stuff on the guitars the same. more people like the more open sound and upper midrange presence of the Seymour duncans. I have to agree, as I owned 2 USA so cals and the dimarzio's are excellent, but I wished it had more open presence. the resessed Floyd adds improvement for tension and playing. I prefer that also. jumbo frets and quality still the same top notch as the others!! I love this Blue!
Went in the music store yesterday and completely opposite to all my hunches... or previous notions... The San Dimas was by far the most fluid neck to play on. No buzzing. Smooth and comfortable. No quenching of notes on crazy big bends. Perfect intonation. it was better than any of the expensive Strats or Pauls or G&L's. And that was just a MIJ.
I have a USA so cal, and it's maybe my favorite guitar. And I have some really good ones to compare, and I probably prefer it most. Nothing touches it in that price range. If you're considering one, get it. You'll be very happy.
Than you should check out the ESP E II ST-1 or ST-2 models,Strat style with 24 extra jumbo frets,Floyd Rose original,ST-1 comes with H-S-S EMG's or passive S.Duncans,ST-2 with DiMarzio Custom Humbuckers.Great guitars(Made in Japan)but they're much more expensive than the Charvels.
PROS: *It has the best neck I've ever play on a guitar. Smooth, no fret-buzz, fast and smells good :D *The pops are good for overdrives and distortions (sounds killer). *The FR (I think it's a Special) its great. Stays in tune pretty well, even if I abuse it like Dimebag. *The volume pot and switch are noiseless and smooth. *Came with a SKB guitar case. **READ NEXT COMMENT, PLEASE**
If it wasn't for the cons, it would be my perfect guitar. I was planning to buy the Adrian Smith's Jackson, but $2000 dlls is too much for me to pay for a guitar. It's my first guitar over $500 dlls., maybe I expected too much for it, but when I play it on stages or rehearsing, I forget about the cons, because it sounds, looks and feels killer! :D Would I recommend it? Yes, but take a GOOD LOOK at it, play it, feel it and, if it fits you, buy it. Greetings :D
I bought a So-Cal in Snow White color. I felt kind of bittersweet when I got it and watched it (I bought it from ebay... next time, I'll take a look at the guitar personaly and closely). Maybe I'm being too demanding, but it has some flaws and some good things. Here's a little list of pros and cons. ***NEXT COMMENT***
I'm really torn. Charvel So Cal or Jackson Adrian Smith SDX? They're similar, though the Charvel is maybe better quality - but also $400 more ($899 versus $499). I don't know which one to buy, and Charvel's are not found in any local stores.
Great guitarist man, I'll think I'll be checking Bleeding Through out very soon. But NeoGeofanatic is super too. I wish I had 50% of his talent. Until then I'll keep bluffing :-)
CONS: *The pickguard is not well placed. In some points it doesn't touch the body, you have to press it to do so. *The FR is ok, but is not Original (in Charvel's web site says FR® Original & Special). *The paintjob where the FR is placed, is kinda bad. They didn't care too much. Same thing with the backplate. *The pops are good but it's hard to get a nice clean tone. *The backplate was placed so bad, oh my god, if I can only send you photos, you'll understand me.
