I recently got a 2023 So Cal Primer Grey. It's my first hardtail guitar. All my other Charvels' and Ibanezs' have floating trems. My So Cal is the best sounding guitar I have. It also feels and plays amazing. Maybe because its a fixed bridge?!? Its simple, clean and no frills. Simple restoring and set up. I was impressed and it's become my #1 guitar. I can't put it down.
I have this model since last year and it is the best guitar I ever owned in my 22 years of guitar playing! I love it so much and except for a FR push-in style trem arm, I didn't do and certainly will not do any more modification to it.
Yes! I completely forgot to add that, that's a great suggestion and something I've been meaning to get round to doing for ages. The push in is so much better. Thanks for reminding me!
I had a mij 2011 charvel so cal in that colour. I had to sell it along with some other guitars die to medical bills. The mij charvel hands down the best guitar and best neck of a guitar I ever played
Awesome video! I have the same Charvel in neon yellow (pictured in my sig). It’s become my main guitar for most of my videos. Your video should have more views, this is one of the best demos/reviews I’ve seen of this guitar, and the tones you got were spot on to what I hear on mine. Also had similar feelings on the hardware. I was gonna change out the Duncan Distortions but they really grew on me, these pickups are amazing, and clean up/coil tap surprisingly well. It nails the strat sound remarkably well in the middle position. And true, the Floyd is solid but not as nice as the German one. The unfinished neck is awesome and I like that it’s a bit thicker than that Ibanez wizard necks, it feels less polished more like an untamed hot rod compared to the RG series guitars.
Ah thanks so much @ShaddyMD! I'm really glad you liked it and thought I captured it's sound well. It's such a great guitar and I think you definitely have the best colour. I'd love to pick up a Neon Yellow like your at some point. It seems a few years ago they had so many cool colour options, it's a pretty boring selection now in comparison.
@@JakeLeighGuitar Thanks, yeah i was really excited when i saw it pop up locally. I def feel the same about the new colors. Wish they brought back the fun neon ones, rocket red was the other color i really liked.
@@rocktorrocks Do you remember they had a silver sparkle version for a little while? I think you had to take the neck off for truss rod adjustment though which I think would’ve been a dealbreaker for me.
@@JakeLeighGuitar Wow! i didn’t even know they did that. i looked it up, that’s a stunning finish, and unique too! Don’t see many silver sparkle finishes from any company. Agreed on the truss rod though, none of my guitars have that. The climate changes alot where i live and i’m always trying out different string gauges, so being able to easily adjust the truss rod is a must.
hey guys!!! just picked up a black SC-1 with the black pick guard for $840.00 new...the thing i like the best is it has the ebony fretboard, never had one n i like it!!! cheers guys!!!
Except the So Cal isn't made from garbage Tonewood like Basswood in the overseas Adrian Smith model, therefore the Charvel has actual dynamics, a strong midrange and top-end and good, tight and punchy Bass.
@@1970borntorun similar in playability to me but yes, the build on the mexican so-cal is superior and the duncan distortions are awesome...sold the adrian smith...(disclaimer): i have a new replacement so-cal on the way from fender as mine had neck alignment issues...love the guitar tho...cheers brother!!!
