Christmas has been a magical time of year for me and my family. Growing up, I've seen my parents working their whole lives to gave me and my sister live a comfortable life. My christmas wishlist is to hang out with them, my cousins and whole family. As the eldest daughter in an asian household, it has always been a dream of mine to celebrate Christmas merrily and every year I always look forward to having a family picture since I grew up not having one. Up until now that I am in college and away from home, we still don't have a decent family picture. I know it's a simple thing for most people but for me, it's one of my heart's desire to have a family picture especially during Christmas. As usual, my family would spend Christmas Eve simply due to financial constraints. Our Christmas has always been mundane and simple- my father would cook adobong baboy, my mom would cook spaghetti, and me and my siblings would prepare a simple fruit salad. A simple dinner but still "makabusog". After that simple dinner, everyone will go to sleep. We don't usually wait for a Christmas countdown since we don't have a Christmas Tree with gifts beneath it, we didn't have something to look forward to. In days to come, I hope we get to celebrate Christmas more merrily. I hope we get to have a decent family picture. I hope we get to celebrate holidays without having to worry about anything. We used to be a complete family during holidays. Sadly, my dearest father and 3 brothers passed away already. Those were the hardest times in my life coming from a less fortunate family I was forced to be the breadwinner. Being the breadwinner in the family is not easy I have to think about them first since I'm the eldest. If I'll get lucky, I would be very happy to have gift certs for groceries or (anything).💖 I love seeing the Christmas tree at night, the presents, the house decorations, and caroling with the church at every house. Every year, I spend Christmas with my parents. As an only child, they have been with me through all my ups and downs. And so, I appreciate it whenever we spend all our holidays together. This year has been an intense rollercoaster ride for me - from earning my college degree, landing my first job, having my heart broken, reviewing for the board exam, going to therapy, living alone, etc. In short, I feel overwhelmed by all these life transitions brought by adulting. Thankfully, Christmas for me is a holiday that gives me a sense of comfort and home, the same feeling I get from my parents. Thus, I want to honor them by giving them a grander celebration than what we are used to. I can’t wait to celebrate this year Christmas, coz last year we didn’t celebrate due to Typhoon Odette (no electricity, no water - we are begging for essential needs that time, but despite what happened we are still thankful because we are all safe and sound). Hopefully this Christmas ‘22 we can celebrate the birth of Jesus with my family and eat together with our simple handaan (happy na kami jan) 🥺 As breadwinner of the family, talagang pinagplanohan at pinaghandaan ko ang Christmas kahit simpleng handaan lang (loaf of bread, spaghetti, bbq and salad-usually handaan namin since then, happy na kami as long as we are complete. For the 4th Christmas in a row, I will be spending Christmas away from family but still fortunate enough to spend it with friends, my partner and with my dogs.
