This channel is so different to all the other mundane trip report channels out there without naming a certain person or persons😅, Gabriel really has a nice way of narrating and putting together an great documentary, Venezuela is like the Jurassic park for aviation dinosaurs.
Thank you so much for this beautiful video. I am a retired aircraft engineer and was an engineer for CP Air in Vancouver Canada for a number of years..where amongst other types we had a fleet of over 20 737-200s. I believe that at least one of the 200s I worked on is still flying up north in combi configuration and fitted with a gravel kit. Venezeula looks a most interesting and beautiful place....if they ever need old 737-200 mechanics out there I would be very happy in that beautiful weather keeping aviation history alive!! Thanks once again.
Saludos
I was a passenger flying on a 737-200 model from Rochester NY to LaGuardia in NYC. First time I knew such a beast existed.. Got off the ground just in front of a localized snowstorm.. It flew to me reminiscent of older 1960's designs like DC 8 & Boeing 707's. I have some long standing background in military and some commercial aviation, working as an aircraft mechanic for many years. Anyhow I was glad to get off before the snow hit on a rescheduled ticket, and noticed how distinct this aircraft was. It flew in a gutsy way in my book. I can't say I've flown again on any 200 models (memory not certain of it) but I did fly many many times on 400 models afterward. The 400's higher by-pass model fan jets were much more responsive and those 737,-400's always provided pretty smooth flights, almost like not really flying at all, as I was at the time used to many military flights before this. And I was always impressed by the 737-200 rare and gutsy ride, something I rarely witnessed on commercial aviation flights anymore. 737's are a long standing Boeing icon. In afterthought I may have flown again on 737-200's in Alaska in combi configuration. Up there at the time you take whatever the airlines threw at you. I was in the back and on a short flight, probably distracted by my busy schedule.
I'm a venezuelan (left the country a while back) in 2019 I went to venezuela to visit some friends and family and had the chance to fly in estelar's 737-200, it was quite the experience but the plane surprisingly looked in decent condition
Thank you so much for adding CC captions for the Spanish translation to English, (versus just using auto captions with translate) it was so nice to understand the interaction with the pilots and ground crew. Got a real sense of all that was going on.
What a great Channel and great host ….awesome rare and interesting footage, never get bored watching you. Avionics instructor here, teaching type training for a major OEM in Canada, and current AME at the same time, working on different platforms including the 737-200 just couple years ago. Business jets and 737-400/700 for now…miss the 200
I'm looking forward to watching the rest of this series. I will hopefully be flying on the rare 737-500 on Air North Yukon from YVR to YXY at the end of April.
Gabriel, another great video as per usual. However, I watched with a pinch of sadness. My father was a DC-10 pilot for the now disappeared VIASA and my Mum flew for Avensa, during the golden years of Venezuelan aviation. Back then MIQ airport was the gateway of South America and almost every major airline deserved it. As it was mentioned here, at one point AF had 1 747 cargo, another 747 passager only and the Concorde all flight to CCS at the same time. The current narco regime has turned Venezuela into a Jurassic park of aviation.
Thank you so much for making this amazing video. Very interesting. I am from London , my family are from Barcelona Venezuela and I always travel with avior airlines from maiquetia to Barcelona. Was that the 1pm flight ? It was great to see inside the cockpit. I felt like I was traveling with you hahaha .
That's brilliant that 737-200 is getting that much TLC. My first flight back in 1978 was on a Britannia 737-200 Newcastle(NCL) to Palma(PMI), flight BY079
Great video! Have a nice experience there. I hope that your visit to Avior's base serves as a forward step for the airline to implement ADS-B transporders to their remaining 737s. Other airlines like Laser and Aeropostal have installed them in their MD80s, which of course didn't count with them before.
I took a flight with rutaca from Santo Domingo - Caracas - Porlamar on the 737-200 in 2014. I remember it vividly as the Santo Domingo airport is one way in and out, due to surrounding terrain. And going through a very turbulent thunderstorm. However the 200 is a beast and took it like another day on the job.
I can’t believe that you didn’t shoot the fuselage plate on the side of the door, it’s always the first thing I notice entering any airplane, I am from Venezuela and I have flown planes literally from 1986 and I think also I might recall a 1983 just before the COVID pandemic, both USA made, since most of the newer CONVIASA Embraer don’t have that plate easy visible.
Thank you so much for this wonderful tribute and trip round memory lane in search of this beautiful aeroplane! Keep them coming hot and fast. Thank you.
This video made me feel like a kid in the candy store. Thanks Gabe for recording the many MD82s and MD83s flying around still in Venezuela. as a gold FR24 subscriber I have a special filter set just for the MD80 family. Gorgeous - beautful report. Many thanks
You should go to Honduras and fly on the Aviatsa 737-200, its the last jet aircraft allowed to fly in and out of Toncontin Airport with regular operations. There's no other comparable combination of both airports and aircraft these days, they only fly charter but anyone can easily book a flight with them through HM resorts in Roatan. I flew with them in September 2022, It was an expirience that I will never forget.
@@Flightradar24DotCom Yup it does multiple weekly flights, and the aircraft seemed to be in great condition. They actually have 2 737-200’s, but their other one is went in for maintenance in 2019 I believe and still hasn’t come out.
No shoulder harness for the captain. Speedbrake lever was left inadvertently in the "arm" position after the flight control check. These guys need to improve.
Venezuela should look into spending some money on maintaining the taxiways and runway. I thought we were going off roading. Thanks much for a great video.
It's funny how this guys are coming here but in Flightradar24 most of Venezuelan flights aren't fully tracked, on december I flew to Caracas and my flight hadn't tracked either the take off and landing, hope you can be able track more of these!!
Generally we don't have full tracking there because many of the aircraft don't have ADS-B installed. So it's something that has to be done on the airline side.
3:39 I can remember when all these highways were covered in 60s and 70s American cars. And the last time I was in the airport there was a gunfight at the other end of the carpark.
a good report ..;i loved this 737-400 /200 MD 82 series ..i flew on board in 90's debut 2000 in France , a marvelous jet ..it's look like still in good condition ✈😉🤙
Brought to you by the Venezuelaian goverment... 😂 Nah but seriously brillant video and love this channel. Content you can't get anywhere else making use of the brillant app to get places other people would only dream of getting to see. Having a glimpse into the past but in current time is brillant as you wouldnt see it anywhere else. Seeing all the old switches and manual buttons over screens too. Also weird seeing screens updated in them. Venezuela just reminds me of Spain but you add in a tropical rainforest or two. Looks lovely and hopefully govement contuines to tidy up the country would love to go and visit.
I did notice new music which clued me in that this was a new adventure. This was a great start to a still interesting quest for the elusive 737-200. I am wondering if and where there is a 737-100 in a museum? It was really quite a bumpy takeoff and landing due to the age of the aircraft and runways. Looking forward, as usual, to the next excellent video. Thanks - Jim
It would be cool to see a Conviasa trip report of the Caracas-Damascus-Tehran route 😀. But really, I love your aviation videos that go off the beaten path. Keep it up!
Barcelona, a city in Venezuela is the HUB of Avior Airlines, although when I flew this year to Barcelona it was from Panama on Copa Airlines, which has a direct flight Panama PTY to Barcelona Venezuela BLA on Boeing 737 800
Ok starting to watch and I have this question? What’s so special or rare about the 737-200? Ain’t it the same that got the door blown out in the Alaska airline just recently? I mean probably not a -200 but how much does it vary?
Wow. He didn't know that fleet was so old. I think all the airlines in operation are at that time. Frozen in time. The day will come when we have an opening to the present.
Excellent video! What is the name of the background song played when driving to the airport in Caracas and during taxi in at Barcelona? Good choice and fits the surrounding / location
I checked the FR24 flight activity for that 737-400, Avior Airlines YV3546, it's got really no flight info, just dates and times, but everything else is blank. Why is that? You'd have to go back to around the end of November is get any more details, but even then they are hit and miss. Anyone know why the flight data is missing?
@@aireditionReally, I was on two Convair 580 charters and they were super friendly and welcoming. Who is "us" ? If you guys try again let me know, I think I can find you like 5 to 10 people from western Europe who would join.
I loved this video and I like that you speak nicely about out country. I’ve recently visited it (I left years ago) and while it is true it feels better in terms of safety in general, one thing that terrifies me to my core (because I had to suffer it) is there’s absolutely no legal security. Meaning that if you have to go through the legal system for any reason, civil or criminal, you are completely screwed and that’s scary as fuck. Laws don’t matter. Besides that it’s beautiful and people is nice
