Man it's a weard feeling looking at your own backyard in a video. I know these spots and these locomotives it's oddly satisfying having our small slice or rail get some love.

You guys are the Gold Standard of train videos, the drone work on this one was excellent and what I enjoy most is the history lesson that comes with your productions. I moved from the Los Angeles area to Madisionville KY 3 years ago. I live just a short block from the CSX line that runs through the center of town, I ride my motorcycle up route 70 all the time and cross over P&L tracks all the time. They have a large switching yard there (I think) sometimes I see a train but luckily for me they are not switching cars around when I get to that crossing. You can sit there for 30 min or more while they jockey cars around. You guys need a place to crash for the night are welcome come over to our place, you just have to put up with 2 small dogs and a wife that is going to want to know your whole life story. I am baking all the time you can take some cookies with you for your journey and a loaf of Sour Dough Bread which I make a lot of and just freeze them for later use. I don't know of any camp grounds around here but there may be one or 2. Hotels will run you at least 150.00 night how they get that much money for room in such a small town is beyond me. Keep up the great work.

We stayed the night at Kuttawa this past July, and witnessed a gorgeous moonrise over Kentucky Lake Dam. There's something very special, IMO, about that section of the P&L that goes across the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers.

Did not disappoint as usual, Hot coffee,pancakes,(as I was enjoying mine) The coal yard was an absolute joy to watch, as was the DRONE footage, especially of the whole train, as a College“Basaball” Fan LOVED to see the KY Unit, the early “shoving unit” servicing the local business,the P&L does it all! So glad we’ll be returning in the near future, SPECTACULAR JOB DRAYTON!

Amazing video! I never that there was another Class II Railroad that existed until now! Very interesting! I also like the classic EMD’s, but most of all, I love those beautiful loaded coal trains and the coal power electric generating plant at the end of the video! Love those some stacks and water tower as well! Awesome video!

Watching other people cover a local operator to my area has always fascinated me. As someone who lives about 20 to 30 miles from Paducah, I’d say that the first half of the P&L’s name doesn’t get as much love as it should. I’ve seen a shocking number of wild lashups of equipment come out of the Southside yard and there’s a fair bit of action out of the locomotive shops that I’m surprised it gets so little coverage.

Excellent production. Can’t beat the drone footage for that dramatic effect. I live very close to the PAL mainline and love the sound of those locos working in the 8th notch heading up grade through Vine Grove and Radcliff. Tip top is the summit of the grade and the train then heads down grade into Kosmosdale. Keep up the first class work. Thank you.

Great video as always, and glad you did a video of one of my hometown railroads. It’s cool to see the railroad action around where I live, as south/west Louisville (despite the unfortunate danger due to external circumstances) has some of the coolest railroad infrastructure in the city, dating back to the early days of rail in the city, including passenger services, such as the PAL and NS yards (former IC and Southern), along with all of the different interchanges.

The barrier arms are out of sync at the Dixie Highway level crossing. They both start going down and then the left one stops and starts again after the loco is clear of the road. It's a refreshing sight not too that long rake of coal wagons haven't fallen victim to the vandal's spray cans. Hi from NZ, Anthony.

Great video! I used to live along the P&L near Dixie Highway and enjoyed their trains with those old GP units at that time. LP1 and PL4 tended to run in the dark most of the time then. Also, you’re spot on about Kentucky street and Oak street yard being a rotten and dangerous neighborhood for sure. The ICG also used to switch the Frito-Lay plant in Shively many years ago before it closed.

One of the Class I's PAL interchanges with is the BNSF in Paducah. Wyoming coal comes down the BNSF through southern Illinois to Paducah, and interchanges with the PAL, who takes the coal to barge terminals along the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers. This is usually done with run through BNSF power and crews. The same company that owns the PAL, also owns the Evansville & Western (EVWR). Their power has the same paint scheme, just with different lettering. They operate the former L&N line between Evansville and St. Louis. It will be interesting to see how PAL survives if the coal business goes away. Other than a few yard jobs, and one manifest each way between Louisville and Paducah, there's not much business other than coal.

@nolancain8792
@nolancain8792 3 года назад
@@bluegrassman3040 south yard more than likely. It’s practically the hub for BNSF and CN’s Fulton Turn, it also leads to the old IC shops built in the 1920’s and potentially an old yard entrance line that now serves as an industrial line for a lumberyard and occasionally a boxcar drop off.
@bluegrassman3040
@bluegrassman3040 3 года назад
@@nolancain8792 one of my uncles started out with the GM&O out of Jackson, TN, shortly before the merger. When ICG sold that line to NS, he had to work out of Memphis for a time, then out of Fulton. He told me that he used to build trains to go to Louisville, but he never did work on that division(now P&L).

I'm not sure how many of you caught this, but at 10:15 notice how the left side crossing arm doesn't fully descend until after the train is already over the crossing. Surely that's a massive safety concern and hopefully it has been reported and fixed. We all know people don't just slow and come to a stop if they see the lights are on at a crossing and the arms are still up.
