My thoughts after watching the final episode of Chasing the Sun 2, and on the whole series - and in fact, reflecting on South Africa's victorious RWC campaign in France.

Hiya Tim. I had the massive benefit of working on Chasing The Sun and I can only tell you how grateful and blessed I am to have been a (small) part of it. You were my wife and I's go-to voice during the World Cup and we love your content to bits. Thanks for everything. We're looking forward to your travels in our country soon! Side note: I will attempt to put a voice in the ear of one of the producers with regards to Deon. I can't promise anything, obviously, but I will try! Gotta roll the dice, hey? Understand what you mean with your statement but the sad reality of that is...the country has never been on its feet as long as it is not for the majority of our people. I did not grow up poor enough to know the extend of the minority of our communities until I started working in these poor communities. Our parents really shielded us from this. Can't believe it was never better. In apartheid it was even worst😱 pit toilets, the taps on the corner of the road....but ja our future must definitely be better for the majority of our people.

Tim, you are possibly the most honest, down-to-earth creator of rugby content on this platform. You have style. No one else talks about "earning" our subscription, but you do. I've been following your commentary for some months now and I have finally subscribed. You earned it. And I don't mean that to be patronising or condescending at all. It just happened that way. I am a South African and a die-hard Springbok supporter and I love the way you place balance before everything you say. I like the fact that you are real, the little quirks you have when you present. Your calm demeanour, no noise, no sensationalism, no hype - just plain commentary. You and your channel are a class act. Well done - you have earned my respect too. And it's not because you have so many good things to say about the Boks and everything and everyone that stand behind them, although I won't deny that it makes us feel good. It's because you say what you think and feel, honestly and with no fanfare - just say it. That's class. Keep it up. Enjoy your trip to South Africa later this year and I wish you and your channel the very best any creator could wish for. Salute!

The phrase “we know what they don’t know” originated from Dricus’ UFC title winning fight where he said “Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie”, which is the Afrikaans translation. After the fight he reflected on why exactly he said those words as he didn’t rehearse it and it was spontaneous. They were words he has never said or specifically thought of prior. As South Africans a lot of us knew exactly what he meant without an explanation needed. You cannot explain the mindset to adversity and the challenges we face to anyone that isn’t South African. IMO the way South Africans find a way to make something work and get things done in spite of the challenges is a trait inherent to our nation.

Well said. I was sitting there watching this video thinking how Tim's explanation still missed it. It is not just for the nation. Sure, playing for the nation is part of it, but that is the same for all the other national rugby teams. This remark is collective yet personal to the core. Every snarky comment. Every embarrassing defeat. Every derision received. Every hardship suffered. You will know it once you've endured it. You carry it with you. It is ingrained into your character as a South African. They don't know what we know because they haven't lived what we lived.

I showed the start of the first episode, when Rassie tuned the players were liars during half-time of the England game, to a couple Kiwi mates. They said South Africans are wired differently. That's because they don't know what we know! I love rugby and I'm so proud of this documentary and the Boks. I'm already fired up for the Irish test series. My 12 year old son favourite part of the Episode is Jacques Nienaaber speech. Some of these kids were not meant to be there, because of their circumstances. It teaches and reminds us all again, that where you start is not where you finish. Life is not linear. All the detours on the way serve to make you stronger, add to your toolbox for the future. BE ALWAYS EXCELLENT IN WHAT YOU DO. BE READY AND PREPARED FOR WHAT YOU ARE STRIVING FOR. You never know how and where your opportunity will come or who is watching you. Rassies closing comments about South Africa our Country and remember who we are and capable of as a country. I will not speak ill of it, but what can I do to make it what we all know is capable of. Forget the politicians, but what we as citizens can do at grass root levels. Also, wow was I wrong about Jacques Nienaaber. The narrative in the Media and public at large, was the Coach was Rassie, but Jacques was playing his second fiddle. My word were we wrong. The man was the Man. Love how Rassie had so much trust in his Coaching Staff. Wow. The media focused on Rassie, but the coaches were focused on the job. My sadness is that this Doccie is not available to the rest of the country. It's needed.

Why does Tim not have a REALLY big rugby correspondent's job in an established English paper or other media outlet? Surely the best journo, with the same eloquence, versus all those other misguided, miserable old farts? The line "hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie" i.e. they dont know what we know was coined by Dricus Du Plessis when he was fighting his way up the middleweight class in UFC. Chasing the Sun pays homage to him during the credits where they show him walking through the airport with the title belt.

@@Zion66666 The reason you cant prove it is because Dricus coined it at UFC 290 after beating Whittaker. You may have heard it before, but Dricus coined it. Just a simple google search would've confirmed this for you with various news pages and even Kurt Darren (for what that's worth) confirming it. Pro tip - if you cant prove something to the contrary, then dont publicly state someone is wrong.

Tim, I can’t thank you enough for the content you produce on this Channel. Honestly. The work you do for all Rugby is amazing. I remember just flicking through RU-vid prior to the Rugby WC last year, seeing the first glimpse of the knowledge & love for the game you have.. And couldn’t get enough. The previews, squad announcements, the power rankings. The excellent work you did bringing the World Cup alive from France. I’m a South African born boy, who watched South Africa win the 1995 World Cup. And to see how much Rugby means to all South Africa. After winning back to back World Cups with this incredible Team. I hope you get the opportunity to bring Deon on, and all the other stars while on your visit. You deserve it, just for the great work you do. Thank you Tim.

As a South African who never used to follow rugby - who never even understood how it's played - I got pulled into it during the RWC of 2023. It was impossible to ignore the buzzing energy everywhere around you and, despite not being a fan of rugby, I am a proud South African and will always support this country in achieving greatness. Since then I've read Rassie's book and watched the second Chasing the Sun documentary, and my respect for the game has only grown. I don't think I'll ever be a die-hard supporter, but I think it is impossible not to have rugby running through your veins when it is so vital and important for this country - when it literally represents hope for so many. I've been following your channel as well, and I really enjoy it. I hope to get tickets for my dad for the NZ vs Springboks game in Cape Town, since he is a huge rugby fan. I hope you enjoy South Africa. It is a beautiful, amazing, resilient country, full of wonderful people who unfortunately have to go through more than most people should have to go through.

The take-out for me was the speech "that none of them should be here"...that each of them at one stage or another in their lives had told someone, told "them", what they could do with themselves and wrote their own story and made their own journey in getting here. Now being encouraged to go on that field and carry on their narrative was just brilliant. What motivation. That is fire in your soul. As the All Blacks found - impossible to beat. The All Blacks come back story from their annihilation at Twickenham is also remarkable and it is a pity that they didn't a documentary. The same can be said with England. I guess these come backs we put that down to the characters who play this game. Gladiators.

Love Eggchasers. My go to channel for real honest answers to rugby questions. As excited I was, I was sad to see the closing final episode of Chasing the sun 2 last night but let me tell you something. The anticipation and the excitement of waiting for the episode during this last week, was on a par with my feelings during the world cup last year. I was on the "regte kant" of happy exited emotions. The reminder of the journey was and is so welcome. I had forgotten about the Bongi Curry slur. In so doing reminded that this world isn't perfect and its these kind of imperfections that make it all so entertaining for me. I'm also reminded how easy it is for the innocent to be "court" up in the systems we have and burnt at the stake for crimes they are simply not guilty of. We all should take a moment to really look deep into our behavior patterns and why we choose what we choose. Anger and aggression over love and kindness for example. Or not. Spending time on this is really a choice but I digress, so sorry for that jabber. There are a couple of strong life lesson I take from watching this brilliantly put together roller coaster of emotions project, Chasing the Sun 2. 1: if you work hard and focus, and really put in extra effort, and if you are humble you can and will achieve greatness. 2: If you assemble the right people in the right places achieving the impossible is within your grasp. 3: Having the right management team is just as important as the team. So choose well. 4: Love and kindness go along way in achieving common goals 5: Working together is the answer. That shot of Rassie emotional at the airport during the teams arrival back into SA. The reception he and the team received which sparked this emotion. I only wish in my life that I can experience even just a piece of the level of pride I witnessed in the sum of all the parts leading up to this exquisite highly unique Rassie moment. How truly remarkable. I thank the producers of this project for taking me on this journey. I thank the players for writing their own script and striving for and achieving greatness. The story that is the journey to holding the Web Ellis trophy aloft as champions is so much bigger than a rugby teams back to back world champion repeat and becoming champions for a record 4th time. It's the journey each and every South African is on. The road we have traveled and the road we are traveling. What we see and what we feel in this country. The hardships my captain speaks of and the day to days struggles of a nation under a government holding it's citizens to ransom for greed and personal gain. It's how each of us connect to the knowledge that we truly have the most glorious country in the world and that with the right management (see what I did there?) we can all benefit from our land and it's abundance. The conundrum that is a mismanaged country can be rectified. Just like PSDT said, "everyone is fucking scared. If you afraid say so. We make a fucking plan." The motivation of the man. The truth. We have to help each other and work together to beat the cancer in our country and that means educating the voter. Each and everyone of you South Africans should be doing something to help educate the voter leading up to the immanent election. Flooding social media with reasons to not vote ANC and EFF without being condescending for example. Just relay your truth. I don't have the answer as to what the future holds but I can see what has happened, what is happening and that if nothing changes, it'll only get worse. So if you want a better home for you and your family, start working hard, together toward it. Yes I'm scared but shit, I want change. Look out for my video post. It's coming very soon. Can't wait to see yours. The emotion Rassi felt at the airport that I speak above and of wanting a little bit of it; imagine we work together and change our leadership and this country becomes the kind of country we all know it can be. A true example to the world of a fantastic place to live where the people work together like the Springbok Rugby team showed us. One for all it's citizens. I want that and I know, I really really know so do you. Like any great TV series. Leading the audience toward the idea of a sequel is the formula used by Hollywood and as such the rest of the world. There is no exception to Chasing the sun 2. Chasing the sun 3. I can't wait to see how that project unfolds. Patience Antony. Patience.

'hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie' - They don't know what we know A classic statement from UFC Champion, Dricus du Plessis who won his title around the same time “It’s a statement that even though we’re underdogs, even though we don’t have what all these big countries have… we have all these challenges [and] it doesn’t really matter.” The CHESLIN moment was an exact copy of what happened to Mark Andrews in the 1995 World Cup. Kitch Christie and Morne du Plessis called him in to ask if he could play flank. He said no. Went back to his room and realised he messed up and was going to be dropped. They called him back and asked if he could play 8. He said he was very happy to, played it at school... even though he hadn't!! The rest is history. The Dwayne moment was a link back to him losing his dad as a young boy.
