The problem with AI is it cannot readily distinguish liars. The problem with MOST PEOPLE is ... that THEY cannot stop lying. (Even to themselves). This is not likely to end well.
Well and also that most people genuinely dont seem to care about being lied to. I got in a flame war with a guy yesterday about what were clearly AI generated "dinosaurs" and he was just mad that someone was criticizing his favorite channel... but not upset at all about the possibility that that channel may have just all been AI generated bunkis. It was entertaining to him, and that is the highest far for "correctness" in the social media economy of ideas.
If a database is corrupted, by its programmers, definitely bad firmware there. This comment may or may not be publicly visible as a algorithmically direct re$ult of that. Huge money laundering in saudi arabia corrupting data packets fed into their a.i. fixation to manipulate away from human rights.
Spot on! Also... your surviving nursing (as a former nurse aide who left my nearly completed rn pre-reqs behind) continues to be on my mind. Healthcare is seriously ill. Blind profit and healthcare are incompatible and will end actual health. Health is still possible, but not within the present healthcare capitalism.
14:48 brilliant vid. The requirement for rare earth metals may have more to do with the magnets in some motors than the batteries. Regardless, even there it’s more about performance and efficiency of the drivetrain than an absolute necessity.
Funny thing is I was hearing much the same fud when I got my first EV in 2016. It doesn't matter how often they're debunked the they just come back. I still get 'theres nowhere to charge' occasionally, too.
If you're Canadian and don't live in a city or on a major highway ... there's nowhere to charge. Of course over 90% of Canadians live IN A CITY or ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, but hey - we can find the exception that says EVs are not ready for prime time. Want to experience "range anxiety"? Haul a 35-foot fifth wheel with your diesl pickup from Toronto to Sault Ste. Marie to visit friends - and DON'T cut across Michigan! You WILL experience range anxiety ... (unless you're ALSO a trucker and have a KeyCARD or other cardlock account, but that's not MOST people. Many of the diesel stations are not public). But you don't hear anyone saying THAT.
@@capnkirk5528 Yeah, but we hear the same FUD in densely packed areas because charging stations are often not on every other block of a main road like gas stations. They are inconspicuous, often in the back of parkinglots for shops where people who are not looking for them will just drive right passed them and not see them. And yes, as someone who has owned THREE different ice vehicles that ended up with broken gas guages, and has to regularly drive a stretch of mountain highway with nothing on the exits for a solid 60 miles.... I developed a keen sense of "range anxiety" from gasoline. Honestly, I bet most people's EV range anxiety actually comes from thier experiences running out of gas in cars with faulty guages... or having gas siphoned out of thier tanks... or fuel leaks, etc.
@@capnkirk5528 If there is an electric outlet, you can charge an EV. The only difference is how fast that charge will take. That is all. This is the same with your cell phone, etc. It's all about how long and not if you can charge it.
@@sambiraThat's TRUE, my point was EVs aren't ready for everywhere - YET. That day IS coming and 2035 for a complete ban on sales of NEW ICE vehicles is actually VERY likely. That ban will need to have some "carve outs", but since economics will be the driving force MOST sane people won't want to burn anything anyway.
I learnt a new word recently from Gary of the EVmusings podcast [a really good channel btw] namely, "paltering" which I'll define: "paltering involves actively making truthful statements to create a mistaken impression". That AI output contains plenty of kernels of truth but presents with shovel-loads of caveats and doubt - a perfect example of paltering in action!!!
Over here in England, we have a reasonable charging system. Most of us have home chargers, but those in blocks have to wait until Freeholders install points.
Re: fancy plagerism machine, that's a perfect description of all life and human learning specifically. It's just that our information sources are varied and limited only by our willingness to consume. We synthesize new ideas from old. AI does that only so well and when it goes wrong we label it hallucination. All-in-all, it's less the distinction of how we learn, but the fact that we have to pay bills and AI doesn't, making it feel unfair.
I believe on of the reasons a better charging network has not been developed, is because of lack of use. Think about it, you charge at home, everyday driving does not require you to stop somewhere and charge. No, more than you fill your tank everyday.
Yes!! We have electric vehicles over here in the Old Country!! I’ve had my Renault Zoe has taken me on holiday to Brighton on just one charge. It’s been 100% reliable apart from two minor breakdowns of my own making. In one’s first year, one always has minor breakdowns because they don’t know the quirks of the car.
Thanks much for the entertainment. I continue to be worried that my logic infused properly educated brain may be obsolete at some point. And that nearer rather than farther. We shall see, or, being an old thing, they, the younger ones, shall see how that plays out in the future. I'd rather not just say good luck, but with uncertainties of so many flavors at hand...
If we plot a straight line, not looking good. Bad ideas get equal time. A scientific study treated a equal to dubiously sourced statements. [human created message]
Two things: turn off your RU-vid history and delete your past history. It wont delete videos you have bothered to save, but the "homepage" will be completely blank. That means you have to use the Subscription page as your start point. Doing that allows me to actually see the content im subscribed too instead of the dreck YT is pushing. Secondly: Approach any new channel you are being recommended as likely AI generated. Especially if there is no physical host on screen. The disembodied voice software is so good at this point that you probably cannot detect it unless it is the obvious cringe fake robot voice. RU-vid seems especially fascinated with AI content and pushes it hard. I was suggested a "science" channel yesterday that appeared pretty normal but about 2 minutes in I noticed that the photos were clearly almost all AI generated despite there being plenty of free clipart on those topics. And as I was listening, it became clear that the script was also AI generated... although good enough that I probably would not have noticed if it wasnt for the images. But the scary part was that the script and the images synced up perfectly. In the past AI content was always obvious because the images on screen were just totally random and didnt match up with the words or the cadence of the "speaker". So either this channel is a human using AI images and script and assembling it all themselves... or AI video creation has really stepped up. But that leaves me with the troubling question... is a video made by a human using AI images and reading an AI generated script fundamentally any different than purely AI generated content? Its all very troubling to me.
That last part is making a great argument for right to repair... if I could put in a 300 mile battery and change the charger for ccs or NACs with at least 100kwhr recharge for $10k, I'd keep my 2015 leaf.
Yes that is what the Chatgpt suggested with manufacturers making EV's modular. Although the prompt given to it was to make a 1000 word essay on the downsides, it did give some solutions. I don't know if these are been implemented. Mega casting EV body parts seems to go contrary to this but keeps the cost of production down.
@@CrissaKentavr: There’s an aftermarket liquid-cooled battery by a company in New Zealand, called EVs Enhanced (that’s the company name). Google them if you like, they’re the first result (at least when I search them).
@benjamindbarr: I forget what nationality he is, but there’s a guy in one of the Nordic countries named Dala who has a RU-vid channel where he documents his progress adapting LEAFs to CCS Type 2, which should give you some ideas on what would be needed to change a US LEAF to CCS Type 1.
I would like to point out that I do not have a gasoline pipe running to my home. I do have an electric line running to my home. The same can be said about pretty much every building in the country, including gas stations. I would say we are closer to a good charging infrastructure than a good gas infrastructure right now. Overall I'd say that the ChatGPT is using older, more pessimistic data, and you're using newer and more optimistic data. I don't think it's entirely wrong: all of the concerns it raised are still concerns. Most have been addressed to an extent, but they're still a concern.
@@transportevolved Sorry, I'm confused. If you're talking to me then I said a lot of things and I'm not sure which one is wrong. If you're talking to markplott4820, then 60% of US energy is fossil fuel (not ICE) in 2022 according to EIA. Great April 1 topic! BTW, ICE vehicles actually ARE greener than EVs (so long as you never turn the ignition). Thanks for being an actual person with actual information and actual human speaking voice. Too much AI nonsense being churned out these days.
Kate's videos are some of my favorites . Her videos always find a way to educate and make me laugh . The Chat GPT concept for this video shows that AI will spit out what's entered fact or fiction or outdated.
Education, education, education. I keep a lamented sheet in my car with resource information for passengers who have questions about EV's. I also try to work in the main point of EV's is to stop burning stuff. As an observation, I'm amazed how little people actually know about EV's. But That's how it is right now.
To be honest, it really is way more stressful road tripping in my Lightning, and adds a ton of time to the trip, like 3 hours a day or more. And most hotels don’t have ev chargers. Or if camping, not hoteling. Not saying is a reason to not get EV’s. But be realistic and honest about it. For me, like on the road-trip I just did over the last week, I can plan for it. And practice makes better. Wisconsin to Missouri to Oklahoma and back, went way better than last year
The very old hack about newer, better (and sometimes) cheaper stuff is coming out every day and this severely devalues the last generation hardware. It really sucks when you buy your wonderful new toy and a year, or sometimes just months later, a newer, better model comes out and your once wonderful toy SUDDENLY CEASES TO FUNCTION. Oh, wait... it's still working, and exactly the same as it did yesterday, before the newer model came out. So, maybe the resale value of yours just went down some. SO WHAT! I bought mine to use it, not to sell it, didn't you? I've been really tired of this decreased value argument for decades now. It's been prominent in things like personal computers and high end audio equipment forever and now it's coming to a car near you. Again, I bought mine to use it and it still works the same as it did yesterday / last week / last year.
@@LG123ABC CHAdeMO availability arguably should get easier to implement with lower speeds for charging to provide compared to 200kW+. Clearly an issue with implementing technology - it's not like the electrons are any different.

I find this level of AI content insidious because it isn't rabidly anti-EV so otherwise reasonable people would consume it uncritically and be even more convinced. Thank you for shining a light on this, Kate!
In regard to looking at subscription page I do but I am always open to new and interesting channels however I have found myself hitting the ‘do not recommend this channel’ button more frequently in recent times which I hope is because I am being fair and the channels I block are tripe nonsense, stolen information from other channels or my least liked, influencers. I didn’t find the information about EV,s from the Chat gpt site to be as bad as I thought it might have been and often it appeared to be encouraging governments and industry to engage more fully in the EV market. Perhaps I am just naive but there are areas where charging is a problem and range anxiety is still something of an issue. For example, where I live in Southern Australia we have one public charger (no, not one site, one charger) in a town of 3,000 people with another thousand people or so in the surrounding district. The nearest Tesla charger is 100kms away and there are no chargers anywhere on any of the routes out of town unless you go east where their is one 50kms away. Every other direction is charger free until you go to the next major town 100kms away. We have 6 fuel outlets for public vehicles in the town and 2 more for commercial vehicles only so 8 fuel outlets in total. The largest fuel retailer in town has 10 fuel pumps for cars and 4 for trucks. We have relatively cool summers and warm winters. No major mountain ranges, good roads and relatively light traffic. Everyone has off street parking and the number of houses with solar panels and home batteries is very high. We should be the poster town for EV,s but I think I have seen one so far that actually garages here (Atto 3) and a Tesla driver that visits family from another town. But Ford Ranger Utes, Dodge Rams, Chevy Silverado and Landcruisers? You can hardly find a park at the school pickup between them in my Kia. So what’s the problem? Bad information or cognitive dissonance? Personally I think it’s just ‘ignorance is bliss’ and maintain the status quo at all costs.
I like the AI as saying that vehicles are an investment. That is hilarious since very few vehicles in history have been an investment. Vehicles in almost all cases are NOT and investment. Quite the opposite.
Well it’s a viable alternative!! Let me point out that a couple of young gentlemen from Holland have created a small flying car!! We had it at the Enfield Pageant of Motoring last year!!
Once again you made me laugh, HAL, "evs will make our children gay". I look forward to every one of your videos. Thank you for who you are and what you do.
Good laugh for April fools day. And a good way to poke fun at crazy out of date beliefs From the happy owner of a second hand early Nissan Leaf in New Zealand.
I hope to eventually get an EV. But when my current vehicle needs replacing anyway. And I'm hoping to buy an EV where I don't have to change my lifestyle. I'd like and EV where I could tow a small camper trailer - through and around Australia. Hopefully, if I wait a bit longer, I will be able to get what I want.
If we’re really concerned about reducing CO2 emissions, we’d have fewer vehicles. That’s the issue here. The ChatGPT case wasn’t necessarily wrong. It turns out electric vehicles are just less bad for the environment and yet still have an impact. Also the free market designed a better charger than the clunky CCS standard. Moral of the story is to build out better public transport. I’d love to see you and Jason from Not Just Bikes have a legitimate debate.
We're not against bikes or public transport. In fact, we've argued PLENTY on this channel that's the first thing people should look to improve. IT's also the best way of making transportation equitable and accessible. Electrified public transportation.
And with conversation on you tube comment sections with AI bots.. they tend to stick to a generated answer and not budge from it. Perhaps saying it in a different way...

Range anxiety is a real thing for me as I often do 500 kms a day and there is no real fast charging stations in New Zealand.... When I am on the road I can often be stopped at the smallest country town where there is no charger for EVs.... EVs not for me and why do ev charging stations want all my personal details??? Gas stations don't require any details when I drive in..... Or walk in with a gas can...

There is justified range anxiety and perceived range anxiety. For the majority of people who are fortunate to be able to recharge their EV at home then real range anxiety is minimal. But for people who have yet to switch who could recharge their EV at home then perceived range anxiety is still a hurdle in their decision making. For those that will need to rely on the public recharging network, justified range anxiety will be factor depending on where they live and their transport requirements. AI is right that range anxiety is still a barrier, because even when the facts suggest it isn't a problem, the perception is what counts. When all said and done recharging issues can be a deal breaker, if a working vehicle cannot be charged in minutes, it is costing, and sometimes that is unacceptable. There are pros and cons to nearly any decision, ICE and EV should not be a binary decision, they should co-exist until one naturally dominates the other. I am going to side with AI on this, it was asked a specific question and it highlighted the challenges and though there may be solutions to those problems they are real. If you don't want to like the answer, don't ask the question. If you asked the AI for why EVs may be benefit the environment you might have had all the answers you wanted to hear. The current recharging infrastructure in nearly all countries requires improvement and further investment, how could anyone deny that, well I guess anyone who recharges at home and never needs to use a public recharging facility, but they would be wrong.
I cannot charge at home from a high rise apartment, so have to use public charging I also do long raid trips and there are only a handful of superchargers in my country. I have no range anxiety at all. However, as gas stations close down, those with fossil cars that also cannot refuel at home will suffer proper range anxiety. I can at least make my own electrons if I really need to.
@@ahaveland That is a bit of "I don't have a problem so why should anyone else" syndrome going on there. If people have a need to do long journeys with limited recharging infrastructure, it would give many people genuine range anxiety. As for your gas station comment, the difference is that gas stations will close when the demand subsides, it is not the same as a recharging infrastructure not keeping up with growing demand. Anyway I am not arguing that EVs are not the future, and range anxiety overblown, I'm arguing that when someone asks AI to comment on the issues people have with EVs don't get upset with the answer.
@@martincday007 valid points, but I'm only giving my circumstances as an attempt to ameliorate range anxiety in general. It doesn't need to be a problem with planning. As EV infrastructure grows and becomes ubiquitous it will become even less of a non-issue than current fossil fuel range anxiety!

Nikki here. I've never owned an Audi e-Tron. It was one on loan - sadly we were unable to review it because of the accident that I had in my F150 Lightning, a truck which was written off and replaced with insurance with our second truck. For a second, if you could stop hating (that'd be great by the way) you'd also maybe able to look at WHY we got the F150 Lightning. 1) We live in a rural area, and a vehicle capable of hauling things for our animals/garden/my wife's woodworking was preferable. 2) We have no power backup at the house, but everything is powered by electricity. The F150 Lightning was the cheapest way to get backup power and clean transportation. 3) We use the F150 Lightning primarily as a work truck. It's our chase vehicle. It's our hauling vehicle for camera gear and team members on long distance trips where, for the most part, we try to drive rather than fly.
