ABOUT US:
Hello! I’m Vivienne, the châtelaine of a small 19th century neo-Renaissance castle in the Loire Valley of France, which I share with my delightful (and wonderfully funny!) husband, Simon, our daughter, and -whenever possible- lovely friends and family.
This is not our first chateau! 23 years ago, we bought a much larger castle nearby, which we loved with all our hearts. However, nearly 2 decades, many happy memories, countless renovations, and several small fortunes later, we made the very difficult, empty-nesting decision to downsize. With great luck and perseverance, we found our current petit château, which we are now decorating and updating with love, humour, comfort, and -of course- antiques and art!
We adore France and its many unique facets: its people, culture, landscapes, wine, food, art, and history. We also love being surrounded by châteaux, both public and private, which we can explore together! After 20 years here, we have learned many things about living in France, renovating châteaux, and appreciating the extraordinary riches surrounding us. We originally decided to make these videos as a way to share our lives with our loved ones worldwide during the pandemic lockdowns. However, we soon realised that many others are at home alone, and it is our privilege to open our home to you, our new friends. We hope you will join us on our adventures in this exceptional location, and we look forward to sharing a little Château Love!

It's so hard to find Art Nouveau pieces because it was such a short time in history when artists created them. The fireplace screen was so lovely and the needlepoint castle reminded me of Chateau Love!

@@kindlydude ikr that screen had such beautiful lines. We looked at a beautiful old A.N. place in the hills above Cannes that included some furniture 🤦🏻‍♂️ it was the project we are not looking for, and it would have been an expensive nightmare to update furnish and landscape.

Bonjour Vivienne and Simon, how wonderful for Bowie to have that cone of shame off. I think once he steps down of his paw, realizes that there isn't any pain, he will be running on all fours again. I am definitely impressed with your husband‘s DIY skills. I always did extra work to pay others who are more highly skilled. However, there is definite satisfaction in the doing when you are a craftsman. From watching the Château group it is clear that feathering ones nest is , something that never stops. I’ve suggested in the past to other members of the group they might consider upping the charity bit. My father used to say he wouldn’t run a benefit for that man when discussing somebody who was well off. In your case, you were obviously well off, and it would be wonderful to watch you getting engaged with charitable activities. I know there are people out there who need your help.

Lovely color! The bathroom is going to be beautiful! I'm excited to see what kind of 'decorative paint you embellish the upper walls with. An ethereal trompe l'oiel landscape would be lovely. I am gob-smacked at how he can just paint an entire bathroom with NO drop cloth, wearing his ordinary clothes (apparently not getting a spot of paint on them), and with just a small paint brush. I've always been astonished at the various chateau chronicles I watch on YT, in which paint rollers are NEVER employed; just tiny paint brushes. Chatelaines must all be a masochistic breed, as that is the slowest kind of painting. I'd be tearing my hair out after doing several coats of paint-by-brush!!

Dear Vivian, NO wonder you buy Chateau upon Chateau with a DIY'er on your side like Simon, NO wonder!! When I thought, after the panelling we will see nothing more DIY, he even went on and persevere, right through all your orders about exact colours. Wow!! You are a win-win team. Excellent choice of colour, if the camera is true to the real colour. You can go oldie "worldie" with that colour or totally modern. Such a good colour. My favourite "go to" colour..

FYI, beautiful Beau, our beautiful dog had to have a hip replacement at 18 months, (8yrs now) we had physio for him and Aqua walking for doggies/cats! Hope your Vet has informed you of these options for his recovery?! Just, love, love your guys work ethics, you are so creative and have great knowledge and can do attitude!
