This is blowing MY mind. I've had access to chatGPT+ for a while now but never thought about anything remotely close to this. Genuinely such an eye opening video, imagine all the possibilities! You rock! New subscriber earned lol
Great video!! I literally just did this with Blender and ChatGPT! I asked it to help me create a python script that used a process called Cellular Automata to create randomly generated dungeon maps. It was amazing and worked very well!! Keep up the great content :)
Thank you Jake. I was there when you first started through Skill Share. And your sheer push for sharing insight has been phenomenal. Making a community archive for AE effects was intense. And now documenting your ventures on computer assisted programming has definitely pushed a lot of us. Thank you.
I can absolutely see your point here. I've used chatgpt to create more sophisticated functionalities for after effects recently and it has been completely blowing my mind. It has a bit of a learning curve but if you go step by step and test your scripts along the process, the possibilities are really endless! Really excited seeing you using it with blender with great results!!
there's a built in add-on called Tri-Lighting. Activate it, select an object,, then add a light, in the light drop-down you will see the tri lighting option. All constraints are alredy set up. Thats just for this lighting add-on case. its awesome what gpt and blender are capable of though. Thanks for (as always) the great video.
Just find starter tutorials for Blender. They all are usually pretty simple and well explained. Everybody needs the same basics, how to navigate, create, edit basic objects and understand what is in each panel. If you know Ae, you can make the connection by yourself when you see it.
Your excitement is making me excited! I was playing with using ChatGPT to write custom scripts for a Google Sheet and that completely blew my mind. Blender is a whole other level!
This is one of the most inspiring videos I have watched in a long time. Now, as a former Cinema 4D user, I am also inspired to add features I miss in Blender that were available in C4D.
We are probably about 1 year away from a world leading company integrating a cutting edge ai completely into a virtual reality program where you just talk to the thing and it creates whatever you want around you. How and whatever you describe.. the ai would know how to make it. A few years ago this idea would have seemed like a fantasy idea. But, i think now, some of these big companies CAN do this, and are motivated to do this.
Very cool, subscribed, and thank you. EDIT: When the squeaky (AI) voice came on and said "yes, i can write plugins for blender". I felt a giddiness rise up from within the depths of my soul that I cannot describe, mouth agape...and I could not utter anything but a....squeak or...surprised and suddenly gleeful chuckles...or...somewhere in between perhaps...trying to let out what just welled up from deep down within.......i dont know what it was that just escaped my lips in this amazing moment, but it was the sure sound..of a mind being blown, the actual physical evidence of the mental phenomenon. "squeak squeak"
when you google how to do something in a given software, switch the time to 'this year' or 'this month' to get results from the version you're on, instead of the old tutorials from old software.
I also created an addon for naming objects, meshes and materials, the algorithm is not complicated, but when you work, this routine takes a lot of time, so: select objects and press one button and that's it! everything is ready! Naming simple objects is not difficult, but when it is complex, it takes time and nerves
I've been a long term C4D user... Back when i was learning C4D, many moons ago, Blender was a lot different and almost laughable in some instances... Now i feel it is equal to, if not more powerful than c4d... As i take on less 3D work these days I also feel spending for the full subscription isnt warranted either... I told myself in 2024 i will make the attempt again to shift... Great videos as always...
I learned 3d with blender, it was so damn good. Fast forward a year and I work at a post production house who only touch c4d. Learning c4d feels so backwards because it feels very obsolete. It can hardly keep up with the advancements of blender. Plus the lack of tutorials compared to blender is daunting. I just want studios to open up to the idea of using blender.
Just hit shift+t and point your light to where you want. Also if you want to orbit the light around that point just place your 3d cursor there too and orbit around it.
Very simple two line stuff... no problem. For more complicated scripts it will literally have you going in circles. Try making it give you a script to slice objects into sections using the knife tool. I spent hours on this and ended up right where I started. It would have been much quicker to just look everything up and write it myself.
Yeah, being detailed about your situation makes it a great tool for this process of creation. I prefer JavaScript to python, but it all depends on the purpose of the tool you want to build, keep in mind that Linux is now super easy for anyone with purpose because of chatgpt. I'm building web interfaces.
I was actually able to recreate something similar using ChatGPT. I was able to create an addon that adds multiple cameras placed radially around a target object, equidistant to one another. You are able to increase or decrease the number of cameras in a menu panel, (maintaining an equidistant arrangement) rotate the entire arrangement using a degree input, as well as alter coordinates of the cameras in tandem on the X,Y,Z axes. The arrangement also tracks and moves with the target object.
It's also not just that Blender is free it's that Cinema 4D is so damn expensive. If I was a production studio and I was raking in money, whatever...but unless you're using it all the time it's a fair amount of money. Aside from that I have a friend who works on some serious hollywood stuff using Maya and even she is like "dude, get into Blender. Stuff my friends are doing with it is amazing". So, that's enough for me to take the plunge.
Wait... you can use literally any camera to 3d scan, no need to spend over 1k. Just make a movie and blender image tracking does most of the work. If the resolution isn't enough you just make a longer movie and or take the camera in closer for super crazy high res stuff.
I wrote a java script app that uses chat gpt's api and a big prompt file that tells chat gpt to return only code, giving it basic funtions like how to control lights and speak. It works as of now, it returns code then executes it so it's like chat gpt but it can use the file system and toggle lights. I just need to get the code to run on a raspberry pi and use the gpio pins with relays so that is can actually control the lights. I still need to implement wake word detection and speech to text.
Thanx for your hard work....have you thought about camera tracking in Blender? You can also do some amazing things with ChatGPT regarding AI like SDXL (Stable Diffusion XL) for instance. l
@@JakeInMotion yet! I like the sounds of that 😊 Other than the tutorials from the channels you recommended on this video, do you have any suggestions to start with? Any courses?
"chatGPT, can you do this?" For all intents and purposes it can. Whatever you can think of, it can do, and you've already figured out the absolutely most important part: that you need to ask it to complete parts of the whole thing you want, instead of the whole all at once. "Ended up better than my original concept." It's totally a turbocharger for intellect. You're obviously super clever. Switch from "can it do this" to "how far can i push it."
Haha..wow do I ever know where you're coming from with that learning curve. It's not something you can just swap out with your chosen 3D application overnight. I've been using Blender for like 5 or 6 years now and I still have to set it up to navigate like 3Ds 1st thing or I mean NOTHING is getting done today. 😂
These look great. Unfortunately they do not work for Blender 3.6.4 on Mac. They do not show up after installing neither in the Add Lights menu, nor the Add Mesh menu, neither they show up when searching in the add ons window, despite being installed. I was really looking forward to using the Cyc Wall specially.
@@JakeInMotion that worked for me too. Maybe you shouldn't place a zip into a zip. Very confusing. Didn't even consider to look for another nested zip. Usually one downloads a zipped addon and doesn't touch it. Then install from that downloaded zip-file.
Googles how to parent in blender. Haha same. That's the only thing I have noticed in my switched to blender that makes me wonder why they don't handle parenting like C4D.
I wanted to leave a timestamp when the blah stops and the content begins, bit there is no content. Ok, no: The content is ChatGPT can help with Blender…somehow
So, I'm fairly sure he's not using a script. I use it as an aid/time/effort-skip for programming and what I found is it helps to be as specific as possible and provide clear context when asking a question. ex: Could you write some code to [explaination of what you are trying to do] in [software +version] or another example based on one of my chats ME: Can you check over this function for me to see if there are any improvements I can make for it? [Explanation of what the function does] This is all in [Programming language + version] and here's the [script/code/function/etc]: [paste code w/o brackets] CGPT: Firstly, I think you might be overcomplicating...[response provides a possible solution] Remember that you might not receive a complete or perfect answer, but it'll provide a huge time save to use it as an example to build off of. You can always ask for CGPT to rewrite certain areas of its' response or in another version of the software as it can sometimes provide depreciated code. The best advice is to have some kind of basic knowledge of the area you're asking questions about to fully utilize CGPT's response. Also, don't be afraid to ask it as many questions about the response as you need to understand it.
Help a guy out I haven't used blender in quite some time and muscle memory is shot... How do I get to the options on the cyc wall to click on the side walls and ceiling options?
Just figured it out. My mistake, when I downloaded the zip file I thought that was the zip file to install. I then unzipped it and saw the real zip file to install. Sorry to waste your time. Thanks again!
I have to know how ypu accomplished this because i was working on an add on with chat gpt 4 and it hit a wall when needing to access geo nodes as it had no current blender 4.0 reference on nodes and was a horribly tedious task just to create one or two functioning nodes. When we went full python i could not acheive real time changes to any mesh as python code needed to regenerate the object each change which was choppy and not nearly as smooth as your backdrop add on. How did you acheive this?
Enjoyed your enthusiasm, but for folks who don't know blender or python and have not yet tried chatgpt, this video seems misleading to me. The dream of a n00b getting the AI to write meaningfully original programs for blender is not there yet. And once you have the basic skills, writing this without using chatgpt would be faster and better. Maybe future AI will do it tho.
This video is teaching people how to AI program their way out of a job. Be careful what you teach AI to do, because eventually it will be better than you. 😐
What you do as an individual makes zero difference to where we are headed. Extremely soon will you be able to just tell AI to make any animation/video game/movie you want and it will bang it out. There’s no going back now.
Yall say this shit like Ai is some unfathomable god hood rising up from some maniacal scientists basement when it's literally just a computer trying to figure out what the fuck the difference is between a banana and a finger. AIs copy, they don't create. They automate based on existing principles. As much as it disappoints you, your distopian robotic he'll scape isn't coming any time soon.
I wish you would have spent more time showing your interactions and revisions with ChatGPT rather than just talking about it on video and showing results.
My man. Youre content is really good but you are extremely verbose. But If you want your channel to blossom. Be short and concise and plug at the end. It took me 5 minutes to learn something from you... and at that point I was almost done..but the plug was good. So 1. Be concise.. 2. Plug what is actually good. All said. Good luck.
