These were fabulous little cars . I had a Mk 1 Farina Countryman as my first car. Index number was UDR 277 but I cannot remember the year of manufacture. I still have a number of spares in my workshop if they are any good to you. I wish I had never got rid of my A40. One day I'll buy another fully restored one. By the way, mine was also finished in Horizon Blue with the black roof.
The Mk1 looks like an original colour, ocean blue with a black roof. I had a 1960 one in that colour as my first car when my Dad bought a new Triumph 1300 and I took it over. 7834 RE was the number. I kept it standard except for twin SU carbs in place of the original single zenith, so it was more like the engine in the Frogeye Sprite. I also fitted a rev counter. Great little car in its day but rusted like everything did back then so had new inner and outer sills done. The original quoted top speed on the 948cc car was 72mph, so I was chuffed when I could get mine over 85!
Fabulous to hear about how these cars were transformed and brought to life. Jake shows his skill, immense knowledge and passion for this type of Motorsport. Just a question of time before gets snapped up by a TV network in presenting. Jeremy Clarkson, watch out! Can't wait for more like this.
Hi I'm Grant Kern from New Zealand. I'm currently building a A40 race car and would like to know where you got the 800 lb coil springs from. Currently have 400lb and after seeing your video think maybe to light
