Here are my stats for you. I've been selling on Poshmark since 2020. Sales on Poshmark alone during 2021, vs 2022, vs 2023 has been declining each year. 2022 vs 2023 at this point I'm down on Poshmark gross sales by 15%. I too refuse to do live selling. I did do the promoted Beta program when it first came out, it was completely NOT worth it when I ran all of my numbers. So, I chose not to continue promoting my closet. It's sad to think that opting to not do live selling and not opting to promote (especially when the numbers don't add up) that it would hurt us as sellers on the platform. No platform is perfect, but numbers don't lie. My spreadsheets show increased listing, better inventory, etc on my part yet my sales are down 15% from last year. Thanks for your honesty and being open because it makes people like me feel like we aren't alone in this struggle.

I thought it was just me and my lack of effort on PM but I've gone from selling hundreds of items in a year in 2019,2020, 2021, to selling maybe 1-2 items a month on PM. My eBay sales are still going strong.

My sales have increased from 2022 and 2023 and I don't do live selling or promoted listings at all. I don't really see that many people on the live shows I think a lot of buyers don't really care for it actually. It is a very niche pool of buyers that want to sit and watch someone blabber for 1 hour. Your sales are probably down because of the economy and inflation.

My sales have dropped by about 2/3 over the past year on Posh. Thank goodness I cross list to EBay which has been amazing for me this year. I continue to list and share on Posh because it doesn’t take that much effort. But man I do hate all the low ball offers on Posh. That gets worse all the time

I don't do lives or promoted closet. I'm a part time seller with relatively small closet of 300-350 items. But I'm experiencing some weird things on poshmark. I share multiple times every day. Some days there's just crickets... no sales, almost no likes, it's like my closet is invisible, and then some days out of nowhere I get multiple sales, many likes, etc. And I don't do anything different. I feel like poshmark push certain closets in the algorithm, those who do lives, but also other closets at random. And somehow "silence" the other. Something's going on
@susiesfinds

Agreed! I don't think being a Posh Ambassador II status means absolutely anything these days!! I also share to the max without going over to flag. I, too, feel completely defeated by Poshmark. I was actually doing so well from January to June, and suddenly, ever since July, my sales just tanked. I list almost everyday and I hand select quality stuff based on comps and sell through rate and it's like it doesn't even matter. I refuse to do live sales and sell things for so little. I notice low ball offers are ruthless now. The whole situation makes me sad
@luxedoll166
@luxedoll166 6 месяцев назад
Agree, the lowball offers are at this point insulting, I sell mostly new with tags items and people want to pay lower than thrift store prices for new items, then the pre-owned things are selling for peanuts and then they complain as if they bought it new and paid full price, today someone opens a case because a jacket I sold one of the pockets did not have the elastic pull, the zipper was there as well as the hardware but one of the zippers were missing an elastic that helps open the zipper faster, even though the other 3 pockets had it, she paid $30 for a pre-owned jacket that is worth $100 new, the condition was flawless, but she complaints for that? I don't know., I think she was hoping that I would lower the price and give a credit, I told her, to just return it.

Hey Courtney, I totally agreed with this video overall. Poshmark is ridiculous and is beginning to act like a MLM company with all of the manipulation of sellers to follow, share and live sell. It’s a pain in the rear end. Business is business. I don’t want to see people’s shared stuff all day long and I hate when my phone pops up somebodies live show every 10 minutes. I will never do live selling. I’m not a social butterfly and it would cause me anxiety. I don’t want to feel pressured to watch or purchase from lives sales either. I’ve stopped following some RU-vidrs bc they are pushing it hard. My biggest issue currently is finding cheap inventory. My source (thrifts) now have skyrocketing prices. So I’ve got to figure that out. My sales are okay. I’m glad I have other sources of income.

I am actually pretty upset! I loved poshmark and it felt like home. I did ebay first. I wanted to do live sales even just silent lives. My regular sales died in November. 😢 i got approved to sell live. Well they passed a law in Ohio you now have to have a auctioneer license do lives unless you sell $10,000 of your own personal stuff only. 27 states have similar laws. No one is talking about it! And some sellers are breaking the law knowing it. Some have no idea. So sad struggling now on poshmark.

I think Posh is trying to coerce and actually force sellers into doing shows. The latest philosophy seems to be “do shows or lose sales” but because they don’t want to lose sellers in mass droves they occasionally condescend to let the Posh light shine on non-show sellers for a day or two every couple of weeks so you can sell just enough to keep yourself hanging on with hope of change. It’s deceitful and causes a lot of soul and gut wrenching confusion for sellers who are losing time and money.
@to1drlandthrift

My sales on Poshmark are half of what they were last year. November was actually my lowest monthly sales total next to july. I share, list, send offers etc daily. I don't have any intentions of doing live shows and I truly feel they are hurting the regular sales on Poshmark. So many low ball offers since they added in the live sales. It isn't my primary income, so I don't rely on it to pay my bills. Between lack of sales and thrift stores hiking up the price of items, I feel defeated.

When I was reselling, I only ever bought stock on tag sales. It was the only way I could be sure I’d make a profit even on lowball offers. I’ve been away from thrifting long enough that I don’t even know what the prices are during tag sales these days, but I used to buy on weekend tag sales for $1.97 an item - I tried to never exceed $2 an item on average. It was fun, and it was never my primary income source. I don’t think Poshmark is a good app for professional resellers.

I would like to try live selling but from what I have observed, the most successful sellers appear to buy pallets of new with tags inventory and can command a reasonable price or they shop at the Goodwill bins for very inexpensive inventory and are fine with making a few dollars per item sold. I have not been able to find a source for pallets of inventory that has not been a costly disappointment and I do not have the hours to devote to shopping at the outlets. My inventory is sourced from thrift stores with an average cost of $5.00. If I factor in the time to shop for and then prep inventory for a live show where it is unlikely I will triple my profit (and making $15.00--even quick, dirty and out the door--would make me wince considering the quality of my inventory), I can't see a way to make it work. I am not camera shy (I was a broadcast news reporter) so that is not the issue. I have built several successful business in my career so for me from my current vantage, the numbers just don't add up. If either of the two conditions mentioned change, I would for sure give live selling a try. As for my sales, it has been such a roller coaster this year and I do get discouraged when I see other people on RU-vid report their 6K dollar sales per week and how they list 40 items per day. But, I can only devote the time that I have, pivot and adjust and keep trying to learn better ways. Like you I have been on Poshmark for 6 years.

This has actually been my best year on PM, but I'm a hobby seller. I've done around $22k this year and I dont do live sales. That being said, Ive said it before and Ill say it again - PM is suppressing closets and continually doing AB testing. As of right now, I am not getting likes or offers unless I am paying to promote. Now, dont get me wrong - my promoted listing ARE NOT the listings that are selling, its still my normal listings. But, when I turn off promoted listings all of a sudden the likes and sales vanish for days at a time. Ive tried it a couple.of times over the past 2 months. These patterns have been going on all year so its not directly related to promoted listings, its just directly related to what listings and sellers PM wants to push out with their algorithm. If youre meeting the algorithm, theyll push your closet out there.

I think live sales are driving the prices of items down for the rest of us. People are getting say arc’teryx jacket for $10..mine is for sale for $75, I get offers of $20. I also think resellers who are happy with a few $’s above cost are driving sales down for us too. My sales are about 65% of 2022ytd. Starting getting bad when live sales started. Beta promoted closet did nothing for me. Only sales I get lately is 40% off my list which I feel is market value minus live sales prices.

#5 yes, not donating bad buys fast enough. Allowing things that aren’t selling to take up room in your seller closet. I have realized that I would rather have a closet with 500 fast moving high dollar items than 1500 non moving low dollar items. I have really revamp my shopping now, I know what sells well for me and those are the things I look for. And if I come home with 2 to 4 items to list hurray. No more piles of dirty projects from the bins, and most of the crap that was in my closet came from the bins and it has mostly been returned to the goodwill. I sell a lot of bras, they are plentiful where I live, they are quick to photograph and they don’t take up any room to store. Thanks for videos, you are awesome.

Hey, I am someone who does live shows. When I started live shows last year I was trying to do 4 a week. and I definitely burnt out after a few months. Then I stopped doing live shows for a bit and started back up again a few months ago doing one or two a week. I found a balance that works for me and doesn't stress me out. As for profit margins and labor, I get all my items at the bins and average $1-$2 per item. But if I was getting items for $5+ I think it would hurt my margins, because I do $6-$15 starts in my live shows. I've gotten into a routine of setting up a live show and what doesn't sell I list it after, so I've gotten into a good routine with that. shows are random I've sold $200 worth of clothing in 2 hours or only sold $50 in 1.5 hours. So it varies, i haven't found my sweet spot yet, but I've found it does help with my monthly sales. Ultimately I think it depends on what you want to do and don't want to do and figuring out what works best for you.

I’m in my 4th year of selling. I’ve sold more this year on Posh than last year. I don’t do live sales. But I’ve noticed very low ball offers. I’ve had to run more sales. But my cost of good are still so low I’m still making a good profit. I’m not mad. I’m also not growing fast but I’ve had a lot of personal tragedy this year and was able to sell more and spend less time on the app so it’s been a win for me. This video is exactly what I need at the exact right time for me to set time aside to plan how I want to approach 2024. As always you are my only trusted reseller RU-vidr I can watch. Thank you for your content. I’ve watched you since I started and I’ve always trusted in your videos!

I have had friends complain about low ball offers on Mercari but POSHers take the cake on low balling. O.M.G. It wouldn't be as painful if the mandatory shipping discount went away.

I feel this as well! I was on a trajectory the first half of the year to pass my sales from last year and then all of a sudden it's December and I'll be happy if I end the year matching last year's sales numbers. I've never had so many no sales days than the second part of this year. I loathe the live selling on PM and still do not understand why so many people do it. Hope something changes 😮‍💨

Yes, agree I could sell live, and I do not. I just cannot justify the time investment for a "show" nor do I want to do a dog and pony show selling random returns pallet items and cheap brand pallet items for $3, those sellers have brought us all down, and if Naver or Korean owners really look at the effect these live $3 shows (we all know who the main ones are) they will see that is a lose-lose proposition for the long term - I sell fine consignment and excellent vintage and no I am not doing a show with a radio blaring and yelling at the audience to bid an item up, it is sad to watch some of the sellers humiliate themselves so posh Korea can make a few dollars. Thank you for your wise input and well-thought-out work with me videos!!!

It seems that those that say they just LOVE live selling are purchasing just for that method of selling. They're auctioning off unlisted items for the most part, so it is truly a quick flip, and lower profit margins are manageable in their minds. That's not every sellers situation. I just find them painful to watch. I also don't have the patience or free time to sit through them, hoping that something will catch my eye. From my experience, the 3 times I did a live show, it was a ton of work for very little return on my investment. Time is my most valuable asset in my business, so it will be a hard "no" for me moving forward. To each his/her own. It is definitely a very personal decision to not be a live seller, and none of us should feel pressured to participate.

Yes, I think that's a big part of the problem. When I go to the thrift stores, the huge parking lots are full and the stores are crowded. I think there are more resellers and there are more people just buying for themselves. They figure why spend extra on eBay and Poshmark when I can go to the thrift store myself.

I actually closed my closet July 3 and did not open it until a couple weeks ago just to sell for the holidays/winter end of the year. I think I’ve sold three things in those two weeks. I am not doing lives but I am going to Bundle a lot of my dresses and sell as wholesale six at a time I have over 300 that I had purchased from the Las Vegas retail show and just want to move those so I can get them out of the house. I have not tried lives and most likely will not on posh, but I never say never.

I did the same, grew my inventory too quickly, I will be going through things and donating soon! I have a cord chewer too, she is my little psycho. I tried leaving her loose when I would leave, but she is still young, and gets bored easily so for her safety and my peace of mind, I invested in a large foldable kennel. Now she actually just goes right in and has no problem being in there. Ive also been training her on what is okay to play with and what isn't, I have been pretty consistent and its starting to pay off....but I still have a couple baseboards I have to repaint 😂 Her brother is an angel, but she does try and get him in trouble lol!

Yep, a lot more ‘no sales’ days recently. I still cross list because it’s easy (Vendoo), but if it took any more effort than a couple clicks…and a sharing bot (flyp)…I’d be out of PM. Don’t even get me started on the Lowballing! I don’t mind folks wanting a good deal, but it’s getting ridiculous. eBay is consistent and Mercari is crickets. Cheers! 😊

Great video. I can't watch a LIVE. Haven't watched whatnot. I just don't have time. If I am shopping, I looknfor whatnI want and I BUY. Those are the Buyers I want. Also, I agree that what works for one person may not work for everyone. I can sell. I also enjoy what I do. If I make it hard, I will hate it. But I will be 68 on Wednesday, and I have already clawed my way to the top, survived cancer, and buried a daughter. So, my perspective is very different from years past. I love my life today! You are inspiring.

I totally understand where you're coming from with the live shows- I don't plan on doing any as a seller mainly because I'm just not interested in them as a buyer. I bought on whatnot for a little bit and I just didn't care for listening to a seller yell and constantly talking. Then when I bid and won items, it gave me social anxiety hearing my name being yelled out. Then, most of the items I bought on whatnot came with undisclosed major issues like holes, wrong sizes. I was refunded for all those but the entire experience just felt like a waste of time. I uninstalled the app and haven't looked back. They're just places for resellers to offload all their unwanted damaged junk.

I am a PM hobbyist, I used to sell there for basically pin money but I had to put my closet onto vacation hold for an extended period for personal reasons. Then out of the blue my closet came off hold (which I thought wasn’t happening for a few more months) and an item I’d put into storage three years ago suddenly sold! Sadly I could not find the item, had to cancel the sale and put my closet back on hold, but it was fun to revisit my Poshmark days. I had no idea about live selling. What a drag.

Thank you for this video! I checked out my performance of my closet and this year is the worst year since beginning reselling back in 2019. Caveat, I have been dealing with horrible health issues this year which took me completely out of reselling for several months and it has taken a while to get back to regular performance. Sadly, Poshmark is not a passive income so when I am not listing regularly, it kills any momentum.

Yah, I am not into the live sales. On a positive note, there is a weird sycophantic fan girl contingent that is part of reselling- many who fall into that category tend to gravitate to the live sales because, I think, it gives them more in access to those resellers. Glad to not have to deal with them. Busy, normal people don’t really have a lot of excess time for shopping in that way.
@valerieg.9242
@valerieg.9242 6 месяцев назад
This is my 4th year and I treat reselling like the side hustle it is. My goal was debt and fun $. 2019-21 were awesome! I was pregnant last year so I eased up on the gas and it’s great to have that luxury. This year has been steady. My sourcing goal currently is “don’t save her” when I see things that I know won’t sell for the price point I want. I also don’t have a true bins store nearby (we have an outlet with value pricing that reduces each day), so I am trying to only pickup items I can list to meet higher metrics. Lastly, while I like live selling I’m not in a season where that makes sense for my time and profit expectations.

I totally agree with your thought, but I would add the selling on the shows have devaluated the items so much because people think that you are selling your items by $3 to $6 as people do in their shows. I do feel that no doing shows or promoted closets are really hurting the other closets. I can tell this is my experiece because after the shows started my income have been cut in half.

if you get a doggie door, try to make it in an area on the house where it is higher than the ground outside and has homemade doggie stairs on the outside leading from the doggie door to the ground. The reason I say this is having had doggie doors for decades, what goes out can also come in and if it's too flush to the ground it's easy for a rodent to pay a visit. Also be sure to have the dogs use the door for a while with you there before you leave it open while you're gone because pack mentality can kick in and one can become dominant and try to block the other going out or in. You can easily train them out of it right away, and it's nothing more than 'kids being kids' but none the less keep an eye on it. Seems like we've known Luna forever and the pups are all lovely.

AMEN! I don't want to live sell or participate BUT some other seller added my items to her live show. I had time so I played along and updated the auction start price and watched her live show. At the end of the show I got a sale instantly. None of the items she selected sold but something else did. I feel like this is beyond stupid that they reward those who live sell. I just want to source, list, and pack but I feel like Posh is pushing out sellers like myself.

Been on Posh since 2016. My best sales year was 2021 which I feel was somewhat bolstered by the shift to eCommerce as well as the stimulus checks. When looking at financial performance I use 2019 as my point of comparison since that was the last "normal" year. At my current run rate I will not make as much as I did in 2019 even though my number of listings has almost doubled. I did see a marked decrease in sales when the live shows launched in late 2022 and my sales have not recovered. I have ZERO interest in live selling and life shopping so I'm wondering if selling on Posh is even for me anymore.

Yes, I had the same thing happen, no sales for over a week and a half. I have 625 to 650 active listings, and will have been on the app 7 years in January. I honestly freaked out a little. It was scary, I even started doing silent shows just to see if it would boost my sales. I have started to get a couple of sales again, but nothing like I used to get years ago. The entire experience has been disheartening. I really do have a soft spot for Poshmark that I don't have for other sites, maybe because it introduced me to reselling, but that's starting to fade.

Poshmark is on my naughty list this year. I have over 1500 listings , my items listed are higher this year than last. I have sold only $1k more this year over last year. eBay is growing for me and will most likely be higher than posh next year. Economy is less of the problem people are still spending, I know I am. Posh is turning into a junk sales site, it seems like they are grasping at straws to stay relevant. They can choose how to run their business as well as I can and they are not my main choice anymore

I started reselling on Poshmark 1st , so that’s been my “home” for 7 years then as soon as Lives started, sales died and haven’t revived yet. I don’t want to Live sell either but that seems to be the way Reselling is going. The problem with live selling on Poshmark, I feel the only way to make any sales during lives is sell so low that you barely make any money, to me Lives are too much work for so little money. I know many will disagree with me but that has just been my experience.

I started sell ing on Posh the sme time you did. I was retiring and thought I had found the perfect thing to do as I love to shop and it got me out of the house. I'm closing the closet and going to have as many Garage sales as it takes to get rid of my inventory. No sales tax and no 20% to a Company who has really let me down. Plus no Federal tax on the income. Didn't they sell to a Korean Company? The live sales are the worst. Lowballing a nightmare.And it has taken all the memory from my computer to continue. My Posh sales have been terrible for months. I have hundreds of listings, actively share, and have pretty good pieces in my closet. I think there's a lot of validity to the thought that the big Posh push in the direction of live sales (where people can get stuff super cheap) is hurting sales for those of us who aren't going that route. It's frustrating, for sure, and can be really crushing. Until I accepted a lowish offer yesterday, it had been close to 2 weeks since my last sale. Really, really sucks.
