What is the mysterious Chavacano language? And who is the mysterious Dora? In this video, we go on an adventure to discover both.

The Chavacano language is special in many ways.
1. It is the only Spanish-based creole in Asia
2. It is the only native language of the Philippines that is not part of the Austronesian language family.
3. It has loan words from languages of Europe, Asia, Pacific, and North America!
4. It is only spoken regularly today in one city in the world: Zamboanga
5. It is a living link between the Philippines and Spain.
There are several varieties of Chavacano (also known as Chabacano), such as in Cavite City, Ermita, Cotabato, and Davao. The largest variety, and the only one used by the majority of a city´s population, is Zamboangueño Chavacano. The other varieties of Chavacano are sadly endangered, because most children do not know how to speak them anymore. Zamboangueño Chavacano is a vibrant exception.
In this video, we discover the unique Chavacano language and the charming city of Zamboanga-“Asia’s Latin City”. We go in search of the famous “Dora de Zamboanga”, taste delicious food, and dance to a Chavacano song.
