There was another aspect to Rivka. When she saw Isaac, she dismounted from the camel and walked to meet him. The camel ( gamal) represents pride or being lifted up. So in dismounting it symbolizes that she lowers herself and humbles herself and goes on foot to her betrothed. A position of humility. Humility/meekness is not being a doormat or a sign of weekness. It's a sign of strength . It's recognising the worth of the husband and trusting him to take care of you. A deep sign of respect. Unfortunately the modern world and women's Lib movement has done women a huge disservice.

Wonderful lesson.Sarah is a representive of the Rauch.She is seen as wisdom in proverbs,and in hebrew,the Rauch has a feminine connotation.i found these scriptures.proverbs 1:20-23 ,2:1-5 ,3:13-18 ,4:5-13 ,7:1-4 ,8:1-14, 9:1-6
Thank you so much. I have struggled for some time with Sarah's lineage. Sarah was indeed a special matriarch, but was she the daughter of Haran, Terah's eldest son? We know that Sarah was Avraham's half sister, which seems to suggest that she was the daughter of Terah by a different mother?? Was she really the natural cousin of Avraham? Haran's daughter, Milcah, narried her uncle, Nahor, also Terah's son. Avraham was the sent away son, who took Sarai and Lot with him when he left Ur. I struggled with Terah having two wives from different tribes. Who was Avraham's mother? She may not have been the same mother to Haran and Nahor either? One of Terah's wives, the second wife, was likely to be from the land of Caanan, while the first wife was the daughter of Nahor, Terah's father. Abraham's third wife Keturah was from the land of Caanan. It was commonplace among the tribes for the sons to marry their cousins and half sisters by other mothers. Lots of intermarriage going on. Many Jews believe as you do that Sarai (Yiscah) was Haran's daughter. Bearing in mind Avraham's words to Pharaoh, that Sarai was his half sister by another mother, I think this needs more investigation??
@@mvaug69 im no scholar but its my unserstanding that avraham lied to pharoah by ommission at least but as likely commission callimg his cousin his sistet
@@scottfunkhouser7491 Hi Scott. Abram didn't actually lie telling Pharaoh Sarai was his sister. It was commonplace for nieces and nephews to be called brothers and sisters, but Abram I believe was really talking about his 'half-sister'. In Genesis 20:12 Abram tells Pharaoh that Sarai is his wife, also his sister of the same father, but a different mother? Judaism generally cites Sarai to be Iscah, whose name was said to be changed to Sarai and later Sarah (meaning princess). For Sarai to be Abram's genetic niece, she would have to be the daughter of Abram's brothers; (1) Nahor or (2) Haran. Iscah was Abram's niece and daughter of his late brother, Haran. Iscah was also the sister of Milcah and her brother, Lot. We know from history that Nahor (who took upon himself his paternal grandfather's name, Nahor) married his niece, Milcah, and didn't travel with Abram when the family departed from Ur. Interestingly, we read in the Bible that when Abram left Ur with Sarai, his father, Terah, and his nephew, Lot, there is no further reference to Iscah, so it is generally believed that Sarai was Iscah?? But we still have this mystery of Sarai being the daughter of Terah (Abram's father) by a different mother??? How can that be? If Iscah/Sarai is the daughter of Haran, she can't be the daughter of Terah. This is the complicated bit, which took a very long time for me to grasp, but it needs to be understood. Abram we can say, was the chosen 'sent away son' who became a faithful spiritual patriarch of new beginnings. If we turn to biblical anthropology we see that the descendant sons of Shem (Noah's son) had two wives, one who was their sister bride from their youth and the other their cousin bride generally from the Land of Caanan. Yes, the tribes did intermarry, which is evident throughout the generations of sons and daughters in the Bible. When we realise this intermarriage between tribes, we can see that Abram was a descendant of both Shem and Ham. However, Abraham was the sent away son who became a patriarch and faithful servant of YAH having only one wife (Sarai - the bride from his youth) and a patrilineal cousin wife). We know that Abraham married, Keturah, after Sarah's death, but there is doubt as to whether she was his wife, or concubine. However, Abraham did have concubines and offspring, including Hagar and Ishmael, but his chosen bride was Sarah for continuance of the lineage through Isaac, Jacob and David. Little is known of Abram's maternal mother. Abram of course had two brothers, but no known siblings by his father in the Bible, or any suggestion of Sarai being Abram's sister or half-sister through his father Terah, unless Sarai was his sister by another mother, one of the wives of his father? But then what happened to Iscah, Haran's daughter???? It's still a mystery to me. However, there was order among the tribes. Alice Linsley writes in her Analysis of the marriage and ascendancy pattern of Abraham's Horite Hebrew people, that Abraham's mother was his father (Terah's) half-sister. This means his mother was Terah's first wife, the wife of his youth. According to Jasher 7:50 her name was Amsalai. This name suggests her high rank. It means the "sweet fragrance of the people." Am refers to people, and salai refers to frankincense derived from the Boswellia serrata, a deciduous tree that grows in dry, mountainous areas. Her people are often referred to as the "hill people" and known by various names: Amurru/Amorite, Edomite/Seir, and Horite. Who was Sarah's mother? Quoting from Alice's records, she is unknown to my knowledge, but there is strong evidence Sarai was a princess or queen: sarratum, a highborn woman, possibly descending from a line of Habiru/Hebrew priests,. The Talmud gives Sarah's father's name as Kar-Nevo/Kar-Nebo- 'Terah' in Genesis meaning 'priest'). This is a place name also. The words kar and har are archaic words for elevated shrines. Karnak on the Nile is an example. History also tells us that Terah was involved with pagan gods, hence the important reason no doubt why YAH singled out Abraham and Sarah to leave Ur for the spiritual journey allotted to him. I would be very happy for the Assembly to put me right where applicable. Scott, don't quote me without doing your own research. You can find Alice's work on her website: Alice Linsley: Just Genesis. In the meantime, I hope you understand some of it. Biblical history can be hard to understand - perhaps that's why our brothers decided not to go too deeply into history more than spiritual progress? God bless Margaret Vaughan
Shalom Pastor Issac. Sarah was indeed a chosen matriarch and thank you for this inspiring lesson. However, Sarah leaves many of us in a dilemma about her choice of using her Egyptian concubine, Hagar, to produce offspring for Abraham, rather than praying and waiting for her own offspring?! Understandably, Sarah was troubled not being able to conceive. This is important because of controversy over Sarah choice. She later doubted she woukd become pregnant in old age and YAH slightly scolds her for doubting it. Obviously her choice to produce offspring by Hagar was before the Mosaic Law. I am not being contentious here, but pointing out an important matter pertaining to Sarah's lrssed marriage to Abraham. YAH asi blessed Yishmael to become a great nation and, Abraham was blessed to become the father of many nations. We learn from the scriptures that offspring from wives and concubines were permitted in Abraham's day and he certainly loved his sons, by his wives and concubine(s). Keturah is more likely to be his second wife and not concubine after the death of Sarah. Keturah's offspring also produced Arab tribes. Unfortunate as it is, arguments over Yishmael being Abraham's first born son, and not Yitchak, has produced much conflict between Arabs and Jews. Yeshua, thankfully, is working wonders through His faithful servants to end this painful conflict. Blessings to you in Yeshua's love. I am nuch inspired by all your lessons. ❤️🙏😊
No, Sarah was not wrong to give Hagar to Abraham as she did this because she knew that she was already very aged and there was naturally no way that she could have any children, so our sages actually laud Sarah's decision and see her act as a very selfless one as she was willing to forego her own honour or exclusivity as Abraham's only wife, to help him fulfil the mitzvah of being fruitful and multiplying and fulfilling God's promise. Sarah's plan was to raise Ishmael as her own son, teaching him the ways of Torah, but God had another plan in mind. He wanted Abraham and Sarah to have their own child... and so Sarah, miraculously, at the age of 90, gave birth to Isaac, the Promised one!
Can you tell me the hebrew meaning of a word/name? It is pronounced "Muh-tay-yah". Im not sure exactly how to properly spell it. This portion blessed me! A day ago i asked Yah to show me something. This morning i find this upload that spoke of beloved Sarah. Thru this portion, i saw some things i needed to see. Some things were admonishment while others were reproof. Thank you!!
מוטי-יה Not sure of that pronunciation as there are a couple of possibilities depending on how you pronounce the vowels but the above "moti-Yah" would be translated "spread Yah"
Genesis- vegetation is man’s nourishment. The vision of the end of days- vegetation is man’s nourishment. One who is focused on wholesome worship of G-d will strive for high ideals. "Behold, I have given you every seed bearing herb, which is upon the surface of the entire earth, and every tree that has seed bearing fruit; it will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and to all the fowl of the heavens, and to everything that moves upon the earth, in which there is a living spirit, every green herb to eat and it was so". (Genesis 1, 29) “And I will make a covenant for them on that day with the beasts of the field and with the fowl of the sky and the creeping things of the earth; and the bow, the sword, and war I will break off the earth, and I will let them lie down safely" (Hosea 2, 20) “And a wolf shall live with a lamb, and a leopard shall lie with a kid; and a calf and a lion cub and a fatling [shall lie] together, and a small child shall lead them. And a cow and a bear shall graze together, their children shall lie; and a lion, like cattle, shall eat straw. And an infant shall play over the hole of an old snake and over the eyeball of an adder, a weaned child shall stretch forth his hand. They shall neither harm nor destroy on all My holy mount, for the land shall be full of knowledge of the Lord as water covers the sea bed" (Isaiah 11, 6-9)

Thank you for the study. Question. The apostle Paul said that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Where does it say that Sarah was sinless in her life? I don't remember reading that studying this portion of scripture. Also, I think it's interesting that only Abraham came down from the mountain after the ordeal with his son on the top of the mountain. He's never mentioned again until I believe it's chapter 23 where he meets his bride. Praise the Lord.
Yes I share with the true students of the Word many things from our Jewish heritage as stories are passed down the family tree as not everything is recorded in the Torah, nor meant to, and that is why the Book of Jubilee's covers things that the Torah does not... from creation to Israel entering the land... and then the Book of Jasher covers other details that the Torah and the book of Jubilees does not cover... Hope this helps... sending many blessings of Abba's love and blessings to you and your continued studies in spiritual growth!
These are the things we learn from the family of Abraham... things passed down from generation to generation. I encourage you to keep learning! Many blessings and much ahavah brother!
