I have never heard Valerie in this role, so it is a delight for me to come across this. Agree entirely with Richard Bates comments, and she is indeed unsurpassable!
What a shame David Rendall had an accident on stage. I wonder if he has been able to resume singing now. A fine tenor. Valerie Masterson - well she is Valerie, simply beautiful singing and wonderful vocal characterization. Thank you for posting.
Wonderful tenor - saw him at the Met twice - as Tamino and as the Alfred of Fledermaus - though he saved 2 broadcasts of TRAVIATA when Ciannella & Gedda had to cancel. Very talented artist - saddened about his accident - his website is most interesting.
How wonderful to come across this - and to hear the truly glorious VM using the mellow middle of her voice so effectively, as well as the stunning upper reaches we know and love so well, She is unsurpassable.
