This is an updated version of my previous cheap string action ruler video.
I bought this for $2-$3CAD a couple of years ago. It was purchased from an Chinese vendor off of eBay.

I just use several coins that i know the thickness of already. Like that I don't need to read minuscule measurements, or get frustrated of half-millimeter differences, which amount to nothing. It simply gives me a quick idea if I need to adjust action

I also have one of those and have recently been questioning accuracy of it. I know for sure that it's not perfectly flat on each side. I kinda doubt the lines on it are accurate. It can get you close, but not perfect action.

Hey man, question, when using 64ths should the string be in line with the bottom of the measurement line or the top of the measurement line?

There are a lot of videos on how to measure string height by various means, but no one bothers to give the correct measurements from the frets, which are recommended as max and lowest. Those who don't know this won't even understand what you're actually measuring and whether it's correct on their guitar.

well, that's where everyone needs to determine their own comfort. You can easily find basic factory measurements from most known brands, like Fender, Gibson, Martin, PRS, etc... These will usually indicate their factory measurements at the nut and 12th fret, but this is just a general starting point. After some 40yrs of doing this on many different guitars, It all comes down to height according to how you feel comfortable fretting up and down the neck with regard to how you position your fretting hand when you play

how would one go about adjusting their knowledge to get accurate readings?

I guess if 1mm increments actually measures 1mm over (consistently), then you would know that and still be able to use the product. For instance, if the customer wanted 2mm, you would just measure to 1mm height on your particular low cost string action gauge. Now, that's hoping the measurement variance on the cheap string action gauge is consistent. All in all, I'm just trying to save people money by doing reviews like this. Sometimes the products can work out, sometimes they don't.

Im looking for one but dont have much money to spare. Im not someone who wastes money on junk but rather waits and saves up to get the good shit that lasts. Guess ima be wsiting forever to have my guitae well set up 😒

God, cant' there be one video that explain what the frigging marks on the ruler represent in layman's English? I just want to measure what is high or low action.

Here's some help then. For guitar, high E 1.0mm at 12th fret. Low E is 1.5mm at 12th fret.
