Nice video guys. BTW I actually fitted those seat covers last year after spending a few hours cleaning the seats after they got pretty dirty. For info, the van died on a roundabout going from 2nd to 3rd gear at around 20-25mph.

It will be the vacuum pump on the end of the exhaust cam rob, there are common pal, the vac pump breaks and can cause the camshaft to lock up and that’s probably wot as ripped the teeth off. Good luck with the rebuild! I’ve know some people get away with just a new vacuum pump.

That was the quickest 26 minutes I have ever experienced. I really do like (Both) your attitudes when you do this work, because a lot of mechanics would decide “sod it, that`ll do!” You two, decent blokes, really do “stand out a mile” with your honesty, integrity and determination. If you don`t know about something, you openly admit it and don`t try to bulldoze your way thtough. “Absolute pleasure to watch and more power to your elbow, both.”

He is a great fountain of knowledge that hopefully we will all tap into as the channel progresses, He is a great problem solver and a back street enginerd par-excellence... I loved the rotisserie, that was some great 'on the fly' thinking, but the idea is only half of it, you have to bring it to reality, and he does that so well

Good work guys. You must remove the sump as well. The oil pick up might be blocking up. The belts are de-laminating because of the excess diesel fuel that ends up in the sump post the DPF regen process.

The first diesel engine I worked on was a snapped cambelt. A Bedford Midi, which was an Isuzu. It sheared the rockers and did no further damage. 50 quid for replacement rockers from a scrapyard, new head gasket and oil seals (oil had leaked on to the belt, which caused the breakage) and new belt. Timing tools were just bolts to lock the sprockets and a small piece of angle iron to lock the camshaft and it was sorted. Other engines can be totally wrecked once a belt snaps. How sensible to design an engine with brittle rockers! Looks like this one isn't too bad either, even though it wasn't the rockers. If only people changed cambelts when they should be changed.
@rickconstant6106
@rickconstant6106 3 года назад
The old Transit 2.5 Di used to break belts quite a lot, but you could usually get away with replacing a few bent pushrods, the occasional rocker and the lower belt cover where the belt had wrapped around the crank sprocket. Even after they went out of production, Ford was still introducing modified parts to try to make them more reliable.

All the valves should be closed now if no damage. Put an air blow gun with a rubber nose cone into the injector ports one at a time. If valves aren't seale you will get air coming out either the exhaust ports or inlet port s depending on the valve damage

That was a great unveiling. It was tempting to think that all engines are basically similar under the bonnet except for the number of bores, turbos or the like. But that one had lots of 'why did the designers do that?' features. I hope that there is no other hidden damage to the likes of valves, water or oil pumps etc. Seeing it played out like a 'who dun it' was fascinating. I was surprised at the amount of corrosion on the alternator and a few other parts, yet the body looked very sound. Part two will be keenly awaited. Thank you for a good few moments' entertainment.

At a 130,000 miles, might be wise to overhaul the oil pump and fit a new water pump. While you have the sump off, check the crank bearings. If it's had no cam belt ever, has it missed many oil changes? Dirty oil, worn bearings!

hi you know its a interference motor the valves actually move the lobes on the cams its hard to tell on the video but no4 exhaust look suspect depending on the firing order check all the lobes are at 90 degrees to each other so 90 180 270 and use a genuine ford timing cover the kit is just under £400 belts cover bolts etc pull the head to check the valves and its worth fitting a new oil pump ,good luck

That belt would have been disintegrating for a while,blamed on the oil change intervals The vac pumps would fail because of debris from the belt. Under warranty they were replacing engines. So this probably has belt debris in every oil way.
@fhrk1991
@fhrk1991 3 года назад
Vac pump will also get clogged with carbon if oil interval is exceded, had one a month ago. Also incorrect oil specs are real ford killers these days. Every Ford wetbelt engine should have propper spec 0w30, 0w20 or 5w20, if not its waiting for disaster.
@rickconstant6106
@rickconstant6106 3 года назад
@@fhrk1991 When this Panther engine was introduced, it came with its own oil specification, which was not backwards compatible with the previous Euro 5 Pumas, unlike every other upgrade they had done for the last 30 years. This was a pain in the arse for fleet operators with both versions, as we had to find room for an extra barrel and try to make sure everyone paid attention to which one to use for topping up. Another annoying thing about oil specs was that we had Peugeot Boxers and Transits, both with the same 2.2 Puma engine, made in the same factory, but requiring different oils.

Done one on my Ford connect was pretty lucky it didn't bought the van not realising it had a wet belt van had 145000 miles on it run it for a few months until somebody told me about it. It should have been done at 120000 miles ford recommend changing at 150000 but they normally break way before this. I've heard of galaxy's wet belts going at 80000-900000 miles

that was only a16 min. video - with 10 mins. of added woffle [just jokin]. most people will watch 30 odd min vids day in day out - go for it wet belts hate dirty oil - the acid in dirty oil attacks the "glue" in the belt itself, making it fall apart. changed my own 18tdci wet belt @ 100k - just in time - starting to break up + clogging up oilways - needed new B.E. shells. change those rockers mate - they will be damaged + might come apart + damage new cams. need to clean oilpump etc.,those belts shed a "liquid varnish" which gets into the oilways. basically mr. henry ford ,dump the french s**t engine + bring back the good old D.I. [never happen, selling too many new engines at a massive profit]

Well, not defending Ford engineering, but the belt appears to have not been changed when it should have been, so that's also a factor, not that they've engineered it to make that job easier and cheaper to do, but almost all car manufacturers are like that these days, even down to changing a simple headlight bulb 👍
