Seems good value especially for high rise buildings. Having to swap the covers after each window is a faff and will slow down how quickly you can clean all your windows. We pay £25 / €30 for our windows to be cleaned so this robot would achieve payback in a much more reasonable time period than the €500 robot

TBH I was surprised but not as much as my wife on how it works and does the job done. Extra 4 sets of covers were a bit strange at first, but when you get started with cleaning, you understand why. But to "conserve" them and speed up - I usually do set of windows dry from inside with same cloth than outside again, with same. Replace cloth and do 1-2 windows wet cleaning and replace for next 1-2 windows. That way I can clean more while reducing drying time on them after wash.

I have glass balconies, that do not have an edge at the top. I guess this robot would not support those as it would just go over the edge, lose it's grip and then fall off? I know the ecovac can detect edges and therefore supports frameless edges
@BeardedTinker
@BeardedTinker 2 месяца назад
Correct! This one needs friction/to bump into something for detecting the edge.

Quite a few years ago I accompanied a project evolving around a so called 'efficiency house plus'. A prototype building that produced more energy (with nicely integrated solar panels) than it used. A test family was to live there for two years. For the opening, our chancellor (Merkel) came and was given a tour of the house. A lot of smart home gadgets (which were fancy back then)... and there were also highly efficient appliances. The project manager pointed at a washer and dryer and mentioned that they were A++++somewhat efficient. Merkel turned to him and said: "Yes, but wouldn't a clothes horse be even more efficient, since it doesn't use any electricity at all?" The project manager looked a bit embarrassed. And two days later the test family had a clothes horse next to the dryer. Lengthy comment. Short version is: "Nah, I agree with @thomasvnl". (Though in your case, having windows that you can never reach from the outside is a bummer, of course.)

Not sure why when we replaced we ended with windows that have no moving part - hence can't be opened, but this was the only way to get them clean. And we have 5 of them with total of around 16-18m2 of surface. BTW - I agree with Merkel on that one :) Except for few days in winter with too high humidity when we do actually use dryer in our combo washing/dryong machine!

To make water evaporate from the wet laundry, it will steal energy from the room, that has to be reheated. It's actually a low tech air cooler, to hang a wet piece of textile in a room you want to cool down. So, as usual, Merkel was wrong about "doesn't consume any energy" just as she was wrong about f.king up Germany's energy policy, making Germany dependent on Russian gas and giving northern European crazy prices on electricity.

Thanks for clarifying that it is the noise level of a vacuum cleaner because to me it sounded like standing next to an airplane taking off 😅 I'l always scared about buying 230v AliExpress devices and the same for AliExpress batteries. I'm afraid of deadly electric shock, fire etc. Any insights on the safety of this device?
@BeardedTinker
@BeardedTinker 3 месяца назад
It has standard 12V power supply (if I'm not mistaken if not 24V) - haven't opened it to check how it looks inside. Robot itself is 12V powered and since it must be attended while working, I would put it in low risk category. Battery is probably li-ion. It is charging and recharging OK so far. It wasn't dead when it arrived and that's always a good sign since it probably wasn't laying around discharged for long time. That's all I can say so far.

The robot seems to work very well. But, it also seems to take a lot of time to setup, clean, and repeat. I can't imagine doing large number of windows with it. In the end, I suspect it will be used once and then forgotten.
@BeardedTinker
@BeardedTinker 2 месяца назад
Depends on the use case IMHO. For me, I'll be using it for as long as it works. I have 19 windows total, 5 can't be opened or accessed from inside, and this is the only way to clean them.

Do any of these window cleaning robots integrate with Home Assistant? I sometimes work on the other side of the house and it would be nice if I could use HA to alert me when a window is done.

@@ech0ech071 Yes, it has arrived. I posted an update already, but it seems someone deleted it. I only tested it on one window until now. It cleaned the window (dry), but then on the last corner it fell down. No problem, I had the line. First impression, it does the job. It is not fast, but that is no big problem. I guess I have to learn a little more how to use it (i.e. use a little water on the pads) to make sure it doesn't fall down. I would buy it again.

I will buy one of these window cleaning robots when they can work as independent as my robot vacuum. So basically when it can move over to the next window without any human interaction😂
@BeardedTinker
@BeardedTinker 3 месяца назад
That would be nice... But actually, non of my robots can climb stairs or go over doorway - maybe time to throw them away :)

@@BeardedTinker renting a crane crew as entire apartment is doable right? I also believe the 4 year old mobile phone I am using right now will outlast this little over clocked vacuum robot that is going to suck itself to an early retirement

So utterly pointless! If it could move from window to window on its own, it would be one thing but now you have to follow it around the house and wait until it cleans much slower then I can do manually before moving it to the next window, repeat. Would drive me crazy!
@BeardedTinker
@BeardedTinker 2 месяца назад
Yes, completely, not like vacuum robots that go up and down the floors and over door steps. I just buy them and they start going all over the house, they even unbox themselves!
@My-noname
@My-noname 2 месяца назад
@@BeardedTinker not to sure about vacuum robots either. It often takes longer just to prepare, so the vacuum has a fighting chans. Dinner table chairs has to be lifted and placed upside down on the table, café-style. All the kids toys has to be removed and the mountain of assorted types of shoes and wellies that builds up just inside your front door has to be sorted and put away. This takes longer than to bring out the manual vacuum cleaner and expertly navigate all these obstacles and as a bonus you don't have to get a small mountain of unreachable dust in every corner. When the kids have moved out, maybe I will reconsider.
