First flight of the ZOHD Delta Strike 600mm Wingspan FPV 50mm EDF Jet and it was quite scarey. With a 4S2200 mah pack all the way to the back and the DJI Air Unit sat on top it needed a good throw to get it away. Jason's first throw was a little tame so he gave it a good push on the second launch and it went away much easier. The gyro integrated into the FrSky S9R really helped with stability of this delta shaped jet. It had some quite unusual roll tendencies. This jet has to be flown. It doesn't cruise around. I'm terrified of trying to fly this FPV but that's what I'm going to do next time out ! Wish me luck.
WHAT'S GOOD
Easiest and quickest way to get an FPV jet in the air at low cost
Simple and very very quick to assemble
Dense foam (for grey version) so very resilient
Good power system on 4S
Fairly long cabin so easy to fit 4S2200 pack. Larger pack if no FPV.
NOT SO GOOD
Unusual roll tendencies (maybe gyro will compensate)

Hi Dominic. I don't fly fpv, but got one of these as my first delta wing three months ago. 3 points. Firstly I love it, I am no better than an intermediate flyer and I can fly it OK, it is fast and twitchy but also stable. Secondly it is very robust, I lost orientation once and dived it into the grass....no damage at all, very tough nose. Thirdly I paid 105 for pnp on bangood, be aware your link is for the kit only. If you don't mind a bit of sphincter clenching until you get used to it, I have never had a plane that makes me grin so much after each flight. Andy in uk.

Nice flight demo! That was strange as Delta Wings are usually so stable. It had a lot of rocking back and forth didn't it ;-) I'm looking forward to another flight demo when you get the bugs worked out. It looks like a very promising EDF Jet for the price. See you in the Air!

That looks like it handles rather poorly! Clearly the aileron rates need taming a bit, but even then it looks like it is sliding into the turn. A bit more vertical fin may be needed, that’s certainly where I’d start.

I think you may have nailed the problem! The effect of the vertical stab is being affected by the gimbal and camera. Obvious really! We also had this on the Flightline Spitfire.

Greetings Mr. E.R.C. from Alabama USA, Had an totaled the "Alpha", ., that "Tuck an Roll" syndrome. Have 2 new alphas in box now. Just had Hernia Surgery, grounded a bit ,, Across the Utubes Ive seen an my Experience with Alpha. No Rudder an less than 75 percent throttle in a bank more than 45%, The Alpha, an Delta's /Alphas will tuck an come around Quickly, to say the least.. Personally Im planning on wider banks at 45% or less,. . Both are designed for Speed by Zohd, course the FPV is their Thing, so its spoken of on the Alpha an Delta,.. an fpv well however Short of Servo/ Horn Upgrades , an may or may not fix,,, That Scary Roll is part of those 2 Speedesters. Wish Luck on a solution from someone, that will post, Regards Captain John

Thanks John. Glad it's not just me that has experienced that 'tuck an roll'. After several days thought I think it is down to the relatively small vertical stabiliser. I've made it worse by adding a pan/tilt gimbal in front of it. That turbulence is meaning I get very little effect from that vertical stab. All the other flight tests I have seen by other RU-vid channels is of this EDF jet flown line of sight without FPV gear. Flies much better for them with an effective vertical stab. I agree with you about limiting roll angle. If I went past 45 degrees and centred the stick it wanted to keep rolling!

Thanks for the review. As it's a delta very fast roll sensitive of course, I just say just in case, while the elevon course is probably short, I guess the pushrod and servo mechanism must be very tight, without any loose point, even very small. I fly an Alula flying wing and despite its cool gentle flight character the very little servos gear free play lead to as little as 1 millimeter on the elevon, enough to make a sensitive difference in the model behavior.... So on your high speed delta wing I have no doubt this must be extremely important to get a precise roll control.. I would invest in high quality servos and 'professional' pushrods! :-) Edit: in the same way I wonder if the elevon material being foam originally could be changed for thin but high quality ply or even better carbon plates. I have no much knowledge about gyros setting but before plug it I would check the control surfaces stiffness/tightness Hope you'll find a good solution because the model looks awesome and quite fast!! (would deserve a 2x size especially for fpv. I even begin to imagine an cockpit view :-).) Happy good flights!

I think ZOHD flight models are generally well thought out and you can hardly go wrong with the purchase. I find some ZOHD models very expensive, but most of them are in the middle range in terms of price and are even cheap in terms of performance. This is a well thought out EDF that you can also fly FPV with. The new rules for FPV in Germany state that you can only fly FPV in the field of vision and with a flight weight of more than 250g with an observer etc. I find the visibility in flight very poor, whether as an observer or as a pilot without FPV. Only a color treatment helps and since I'm a terrible painter, I would have liked at least a few colorful stickers ex works, it can't be that expensive, can it? If you are looking for a small, versatile EDF, this is definitely a good choice. I won't buy it though as I already have many larger EDF models. Alternatively, I think the ZOHD Alpha Strike is clearly the better of the two models, as it is more efficient thanks to the propeller drive and can also fly much faster, although the fuselage offers even more space - it is also a bit cheaper. The downside is that it's a "screamer" and also has no color. ZOHD isn't that far in development yet, they've only explored black and white so far. Let's hope together for the best for the future. Oh yeah, since China is still planning to attack Taiwan and if you don't want to support that, then avoid Chinese products! ZOHD is a trademark of SONIC MODEL HONG KONG CO., LTD. China.
