Can you build a mountain bike from an inexpensive (cheap!) tool kit? Yes, yes you can.
Join me as I put back together my Himalo chiner enduro MTB frame for the kids to ride.
Also, we have the return of the Goldix crankset!
Now I didn't buy the least expensive kit, it needed some things like modern BB tool, and chain pliers, among other things.
So that's where this comes in:
DURATECH 41 Pieces Bike Repair Tools: $59
amzn.to/3xLE8m9
It meets the requirements and only fails with the lack of wire/cable cutters but to get that you jump up to like $95.
Honestly, the kit is not bad and is a great place to start and build upon.

I have the same tool kit from Amazon and a few other miscellaneous bike tools and it works great for my needs.

My advice is to get each tool you need at the time or will need for your bike. Slowly expanding with tools that fit in you hands, work well for you, and the jobs you do. Buy the best tools you can. No need to go for parktool only nor buy kits, the issue with kits is they have tools you might never use, tools for different standards. Tools for things you dot have on the bike. Also cheap kits usually have low quality tools. So instead buy the tools you need.

You're right of course but in defense of a kit like this, it does get you started and at the very least it's helpful to throw in the truck/car to always have a set handy when you're on a road trip.

@@VisionMTB Looking at the thumbnail, I see the cone wrenches are absurdly short.. The BB tools look fine, No idea on quality, but sockets are always better. The screw driver has ridges for grip, nice. No idea on quality of these tools.

7:42 I don't use latex gloves I use nitrile gloves, I got the ones from Würth they got a more slippery inside, and grippy outside. But no powder inside. But I fyou get sweaty just swap gloves. Us gloves only hwne needed like using grease, working rebuilding hydraulic brakes. Working on the drive train. But for general other stuff don't wear it. If you get dirty. Use hand wash. I got some from Würth. Scrubs you clean and leaves skin moisturised.

Yeah I thought I'd give them a try to stop the dirty fingernails but meh, I'll just stick to using lots of Gojo cleaner.

I’m going to do a mid drive e-bike kit install. I have plenty of home/auto tools but no bike tools. Need to resize chain, disassemble/reassemble crank and bracket assembly. Will this kit work for the job?

when you use real tools like Klein, Ideal, and at least craftsman or milwaukee for daily work, Park Tool looks like cheap chinese junk. because it is.

Parktool has lots of bad tools and flawed tools. But some are just rebranded, like the hex and tor multitool and keys from Bondhus. But they don't hide that. Nor do some retailers, most don't mention it. The torque wrench Tw-5 has horrible play in the ratchet and the head it self. This is annoying. Overpriced. Even some cheap ones at half price of that don't do this. Why Parktool why? 🤦 I've not tried the new version. But I won't. Some of their tools are decent. But it's a mixed bag. Don't get their brake post facing tool, check Mapdec videos on them using it. Not sure hwoch is the best alternative as it's not a tool I looked into much.

@@VisionMTB used to be a Sears brand only, right? HD carries them now. good ratchets and pliers, etc.. for the price. i use a lot of craftsman items for my work as an Inside Wireman (electrician). so when i see harbor freight quality painted blue and marked up 10x, i kinda wanna laugh.

@@mtbboy1993 some ppl just use them as the standard benchmark that all bike tools should be compared against, and i find that laughable. my 2 cents..

@@mikestivers8302 I agree. Definitely far away from the benchmark. At least the brake post tool and torque wrench.
