This is the making of Hot Tent 2.0 ! This video took me a long time to make . I struggled with the making of this video . However , many of you have asked about the process, so , here it is ! I hope this helps answer any questions you may have had . I also hope this inspires some of you to build your own tent and find adventures with them ! ! Show me your tents !!
If you are considering building a similar tent , I encourage you to visit the channel Far North Bushcraft and Survival . There you will find a fine explanation and break down of how Lonnie built his as well . It's another point of view of a very similar process . Very informative and well worth looking into !
Thank you to all for the support ! The last month has been wild ! Please feel free to ask questions you may have in the comments ! I will try my best to answer as best I can . I'm no pro , I can't tell you how to , but I can tell you how I do ... I'm just sharing my experience with you . It is fun interacting with you all . Thank you for your time !

If you are curious about the capabilities and durability of these builds, wondering how well the tape holds, or believe the tape won't hold at all, you may find this video interesting..I did an 8 month torture test on this tent. If you are interested here is the link to the torture test. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PCltLEE5is4.html&t

Hello! I followed your instructions and made my tipi tent! It stood tall for 9 days in the wind and rain. I did have a few issues: 1) I made my stove jack with a silicone baking sheet (seen on other videos) it worked good the first night but the second night the stove was so hot the entire Gorilla tape job and tarp near around the pipe jack started to melt. 2) I think my guylines are maybe a bit too high. 3) the last morning the entire tent leaked. I didnt waterproof it. Is that necessary? Overall, this was an easy build and I love the tent set up and it is so easy to put up myself. Any suggestions on how to deal with my mishaps would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for this video.

👍 I love this idea . Harbor Freight had a 11' 4" x 19' 6" on sale this past weekend . I'm going to use your idea with minor adjustments for the size difference . The center pole I will top with a PVC 1 1/2" cap to lessen the stress on the tarp and tape in the center . there are also now available hi-temp silicone mats that I will use for my stove pipe / tarp exit point . Thanks for the very clear instructions , not every poster does that .

Awesome job on the tipi. I sure like that size also. NICE. I like them tie out points also. I think you and I talked about that in the past but it was difficult for me to understand what you were describing on the how-to aspects of the tie out points. The tie out points were visually explained very well here and even I got it this time around. lol Thanks for the shoutout. Much appreciated. May you have many years of great adventures in your tipi.

Thank you! The size of this tent is quite nice. My family and I have set it up in the woods out back. We have been camping out in it. It shelters 3 people and 2 dogs with plenty of space to spare! That is with an air mattress and a cot in it . The thing is huge! Thank you for letting me know you could follow along LOL These kind of videos are very hard for me to make.I always wonder if people can make sense of what I am saying.....and that's picking on my ability, not anyone else. The Tipi has been standing through a week of pretty hard rain and 30-40 mph wind gusts! Taking it like a champ! The guy out points are holding strong, not the slightest sign of failure. I have also come up with an extremely effective and simple way to keep the door shut. It involves 2 bungee cords! That's it. Amazingly simple, amazingly effective! I'll show my technique in an upcoming video. Thank you so much for watching my video....and taking the time to comment! Vey much appreciated. I hope you and Connie are well. Take care.
@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival
@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival 4 года назад
@@ItsGoodintheWoods Yes Connie and I are indeed doing well and we hope the same for you and your loved ones. I will be looking forward to seeing a video rendition of your door closing method. I have had my tipi, which is smaller than yours, out in a severe windstorm as well and it survived without any signs of damage. We did end up dropping the center pole and and laying the tipi on top of us as Connie and I huddled in our sleeping bags the rest of the night for fear that the tipi would be shredded and tossed out into the alpine lake we were camped next to. Come morning the wind abated enough that we could break camp and safely head out. Our tipi may have been able to stand throughout the storm had we had side tie outs such as you developed. I have ordered a commercially produced large silnylon ultralite tipi along with a titanium stove which should be here in about 2-3 weeks so I may not be using my homemade tarp tipi/pyramid tents much anymore but I still like your tie out method and may go ahead and use it on my tarp tents.

This video just earned you a sub. You are a genius! This is very inspirational. Your tent looks really substantial and well made. You can pay a fortune for a hot tent and not get this quality, and the bonus is that you can design and customise your own tent. It also looks virtually indestructible. Thanks for the upload. Not to mention that you can also then afford to chuck more money at the best woodburner you can get.

Your video is just fine. I watched lonnie's video a couple of years ago. I knew I recognized the layout from there. I am going to try something a little different with a square or maybe a rectangular foot print. Basically something from a video by Survival Theory. Permanently tape in some reflective material and include a clear plastic door for a super shelter type of thing. Hoping to hold the clear on with magnets. I will be using all of your techniques with tape and flex seal etc. Good tip to use a heat gun to get the tape to flatten out and adhere. Happy trails.

@@ItsGoodintheWoods I have thought about using tyvek a lot, but tyvek seems to be very loud and some people say that crumpling it up and throwing through a dryer cycle with NO heat seems to make it more soft and less loud, however when I did that it compromised the integrity a bit, so I would be very interested in your experience if you ever finally decide to use tyvek.

@@ItsGoodintheWoods question - how would you adjust the measurements if the tarp were 15 * 20, rather than 16 * 20. I was thinking of coming back 6" from the corner on each side on the first measurement. Or would it make any difference?
@ItsGoodintheWoods
@ItsGoodintheWoods 4 года назад
@@gordbelsey1171 Use the same procedure I used . That formula works for any size tarp . My small hot tent I made from a 12' x 10' tarp. Your 15' tarp will give you a slightly narrower base than mine. Mine is 14' wide at the bottom. yours will probably be 13' and change .

Absolutely love your videos! I'm a New Hampshire expat living down here in Texas. When I first spotted one of your videos I said to myself this guy must come from New Hampshire! Back in my younger days I worked some logging jobs in and around Rangeley Maine and Azizcoos Lake. Brought back some great memories! Long live the badass Yankee outdoor spirit!

Good morning Bill. I have never been to Texas. I'd like to get out there some day. That region of Maine is just so incredible. I love getting out there. I want to get up to Aziscoos this winter badly....not sure if it's in the cards though. I have hiked all the 4,000 mountains of Maine though. ( New Hampshires too) In the winter! Beautiful stuff. Thanks for your awesome comment and support. Very much appreciated. I'm glad I helped bring back some great memories. That is very rewarding for me to hear. I'm working on a video right now of my latest adventure. 2 nights and 3 days of camping and hiking in the mountains. I think you'll like it!........The badass Yankee outdoor spirit lives on . - Justin

@@ItsGoodintheWoods great to hear from you! I just took it for granted you were from New Hampshire but I assume that you're someplace in Maine? I was born and grew up in Berlin New Hampshire. I've hiked a few of those mountains myself! You do any hunting? The wild hogs around here are taking over and there's half the people want them gone and the other half are begging them to stay. It's turned into a pretty lucrative hunting situation for some. If I could figure out how to send you a couple of pictures of these hogs, I think you would find it interesting. Take care be safe.

@ItsGoodintheWoods 4 года назад
@@billsmith1819 I am in New Hampshire. But I love Maine. I only hunt on my own property. I never had much interest in venturing out into the woods with thousands of other people that have rifles. However, I would love to go on a wild hog hunt. That has always been something wanted to do. Those things are bad ass. And ruining a lot of land. I can't imagine why some people would want them to stay. We are having the same problem with coyotes. There are tons of them running around unchecked. We have an open season on them all year round. But not too many people actively hunt them . And now the powers that be here in NH want to limit coyote hunting. Some even want it banned all together. My dog has been attacked by them twice in the last year. Once just last month. She got ripped up pretty good. A $600 vet bill worth. I shoot every coyote that gives me the chance .

Great video. You can apply a little more precision in the size of your tarp tipi using an online cone calculator. This will allow you to pick the center height of your pole and diameter of the tipi. This will give you the size of the triangle to cut out from the tarp.

I know everyone values their time different. But if I don't consider the footage important for the story, it doesn't make the cut. I really appreciate your comment

Dude, this is great! I've been following your instructions and am almost finished making this. Question: obviously, one side of the door is taped. How do you keep the other side down when you are inside the tent? Did you put some velcro on ther
@ItsGoodintheWoods
@ItsGoodintheWoods 4 года назад
That's awesome man! I haven't quite nailed that part down yet.....but what I have done works pretty well for me so far.....I put a grommet on the bottom corner of the lose edge of the door. I tie some rope to that and work it around the closest outer stake of the tent , and underneath the tent, into the inside of the tent. After you go inside the tent and close the door pull your rope tight and stake it into the ground. This has worked very well for me. I do plan on working something else out eventually, When I camped in a snowstorm with this tent , all I did was close the door. I didn't secure it in anyway. It held a snow load and never once opened or let go! I was amazed. I intentionally left quite a bit of overhang on the door, and that helps it stay shut. The real reason for the large overhang is so i can control airflow......If I pull that door tight , but leave a gap between the door and tent to get in and out , the weather is blocked out due to the overlap, but fresh air gets in because of the gap I create. This has proved very useful more than once. You can manipulate that door to create more room as well All depends on the size of the gap you create. If the door is only 6" off the tent , thats good airflow and protection from weather, if you pull the door out 4" from the tent , it literally creates a bunch more room , at the cost of less protection. It's pretty slick! One of the things I really like about this build is the versatility of the door. You can make it as big or small as you like. If it's really nice out and you only want half a tent , no problem, pull up some stakes and open her up ! Super cold and want it buttoned up tight , not a problem! Nice options to have! I hope I explained this well enough for you to understand. I have a hard time explaining thigs sometime . Please let me know if you have any more questions. I am happy to help any way I can. Please keep me posted on your tent! I am extremely excited that you are building one! I hope you are doing well through all the madness. All the best - Justin
