The owners manual tubes are an amazing idea

Thank you for the ideas. I’m starting with the triangular deflectors first. On my first ride home (430 miles) with my 2015 DL650 I experienced some HUGE helmet lift due to a heavy headwind combined with my 75mph indicated speed. I haven’t experienced it since then but I know it’s very real and NOT desirable.

I made a great radiator guard from two Master Chef 'disposable' BBQ racks from Canadian Tire, a 5' length of fuel hose (around the edge of the rack, zip ties and black trembled. The racks fit over the radiator like they were made for it. $18.

Thanks. Skip the intro and start at 1:10. How do you like the Givi windshield? How tall are you? Does it quiet the buffeting on top of your helmet? Can you see over top of the windscreen? Try recording outside for better visibility and focus manually if you can before starting to shoot.

I made a radiator cover for mine from a stationary letter tray and it's perfect. I put some of that same door edge guard you put on your tiny wind blockers around my guard, it slid into place between the radiator and the plastic surrounds, then zip tied in place. It works great!

Thanks Johnny...love your video, especially the reference at 8:22 regarding the tool tubes. Just ordered them and THANKS for the links to AgriSupply as well. FYI, I bought a brand new 2017 BMW GS1200 about 2 years ago, (I assume) similar to your deal and spontaneity. Incredible ride, loved everything about this "dream bike"...until I put a 1" (very light) scratch on the beer-can gauge Side Case while moving bikes around in the garage. Bugged me so much I ended up deciding, "If this caused such grief, what am I going to feel like when I get a real ding?". SO...I sold it 3 months after my purchase (thankfully for what I paid for it, less taxes, title) and bought a barely used (2,500 mi) 2013 V-Strom 650A. My son had a bullet-proof SV-650 (the bike that I caused the scratch via it's clutch handle to the BMW), so I was confident in the V. I truly LOVE the V-Strom (bought with the stock Black Adventure Cases). It has nowhere near the power and ride of the BEEMER...and YES, the V has aluminum cases...but it is much more comforting putting a boot scuff on a $4,000 bike than a $22,000 one. That said...THANKS for all of your V-farkle info and ENJOY that GS (as I know you will)!!!

Just got myself 2012 Wee Adventure and went thru some accessories that shocked me with pricing!!! Great video and ideas. Especially these wind deflectors! Makes me feel much better about just making stuff instead selling my arm to buy it ;)

Good job and good info! Thanks! I have both a 2012 and 2013 Vstrom 650. I just added the wind deflectors and ordered the same tool tubes from Agri Supply for $4.99. Bargain! You have some good farkles on your bike... mirror extenders, Aprilia mirrors, skid plate, etc. Looks great! Ride safe!

Thank you kindly. Since this video, I have added a budget built radiator guard made from a stationary tray from an office supply store. I have also gone back to the stock mirrors. I was getting a lot of vibration in the right mirror and decided I prefer the view I get with the stockers. Since reinstalling them, I haven't noticed any additional wind buffeting which is often blamed on the stock mirrors. I think the wind deflectors pretty much solve that issue.

+Aaron Fink +Biomed Man How do you guys feel about the side wind deflectors? I have the Givi Airflow shield and the mirror extenders with stock mirrors but I am getting so much buffering that it sort of makes me miserable.
@aaronbehindbars
@aaronbehindbars 8 лет назад
+Chris Romero The wind deflectors work great. I found that they do more to reduce buffeting than do the mirror extenders and different mirrors.

+Chris Romero I too noticed a dramatic improvement with the Augustus wind deflectors and so did my wife. She says her head no longer bangs around in the wind stream. That's good enough for me.

Thanks, it was (still is for the new owner) a great bike. I traded it in for a BMW R1200GS because I fell for the Bavarian Beast and got a deal I couldn't pass us because I work for the dealer that had it. They sold my V-strom 2 days later.

I appreciate the ideas. Do you think that the side wind deflectors could be made out of the Rubbermaid rigid plastic that you used for the hand guards? I don't think black would stand out (looks-wise) as much as the clear plastic. IMHO
@aaronbehindbars
@aaronbehindbars 4 года назад
I don't think it would be rigid enough. I used the clear lexan because it was cheap at my local Home Depot. A black ABS plastic of similar rigidity to lexan would look better and be somewhat easy to cut, trim, and contour using a heat gun.

I have a question. Have you ever had a problem with speed indication or speedometer? Have you had other problems with this motorcycle? Regards

Hi there, I have one of these myself an noticed your higher bars, my question is were the throttle an clutch cables long enough,if so how much height difference between yours an stock please. I like the fact that you don't subscribe to the adventure catalog savaging yourself a fortune, but the are good for ideas.

I HAVE A 2014 VSTROM 650 WITH 53,000 MILES WHICH I find very comfortable. I have been thinking of buying the honda cb1100, I see you have one. What is your opinion on the comparison of the two?
@aaronbehindbars
@aaronbehindbars 4 года назад
Apples and oranges comparison between those two bikes. The CB1100 was a little cramped for me at 6'1". Tried taller seat, adjustable footpegs, and different handlebars to get the fit right, ever could find the right combo. Footpegs are too far forward for sportier riding like a more modern naked bike, but not far enough forward to mimic the standard riding position of a 70's era Japanese UJM. Your experience may differ. It is a wonderful bike as long as you aren't obsessed with big power. They only make 85 or so HP at the wheel, which isn't much for 1100 cc inline 4, but it is a mildly tuned air-cooled engine. If I were in the market for another retro standard, I probably would get the Kawasaki Z900RS. I have ridden those and it is smoother, has better brakes, better suspension, and it was more comfortable for me. It has the slightly sportier riding position I wish the CB1100 had, plus plenty of power. Hopefully, you can find at CB1100 to test ride and see how you like it before you buy one. Hope that helps.

@@aaronbehindbars Thank's that was my opinion when I sat on one. A little cramped for me. I an also 6-1. I like my vstrom so much Ill' probably just keep it. I do agree with you on the Kawasaki too, Thanks for responding

Aaron Fink, any chance you have the template you used to make the handguard extension?

Long gone, sorry. It was easy to make using some thick paper (I think I used something like a cereal box).
