I carried a Franklin Planner for many years when I was working. I had always been told I was too disorganized so my employer sent me to the Franklin Planning Workshop. It changed my life. When I started a new job, the boss told me that I was one of the most organized people he had ever met! They taught to keep only one calendar, but I can see how your monthly and weekly calendars would work for you. Now that I'm retired, everything just goes into my electronic calendar. Retirement rocks by the way!
Sharon Squyres I think this would make a great gift for my teenage granddaughters, or show them how to create their own. It's even nicer personalized to what they would want to use.
Something I added to my planner is dry erase tape. I keep a small dry erase marker in the pocket and jot down things during the day and then later go over it and write it in where it should go, then erase! It works great!
WOW again! I love my planners, but this is the first "diy" that I think I can make. Got so used to using one when I worked and after I retired I used it for 10 years more, and when I stopped using one, guess what, appointments got missed, things got forgotten, and birthday's where missed! So I am back to using one and have yet to find one that fits my 'retirement' needs"....think this is one for me. Thanks, as usual for your creativity and tutorials!
Okay a couple months ago I discovered the insanity around planners on RU-vid, and have been slowly investing in one of my own. Your video is soooo much more practical and useful than other fancy shmancy planner videos! Keep up the good work!
After watching this video, I checked out my 3-hole punch and discovered that it is adjustable!!!! Ohhh, this changes everything!! Great video, thank you for sharing!
This was, by far, the most comprehensive video on a diy planner! Thank you for helping me navigate through the "language" of planners! The only dashboard I knew of before this was the one in my car.😂😂
I loved your example. I'm mad about planners and want to make my own but I could never find a tutorial with supplies that fit my budget until now. I can't wait to start my planner. Your ideas were great!!!!
Yup I've been searching all my life for this. It's really awesome to know planners don't have to be daunting and boring anymore. Me designing my planner makes me love to plan more. ;) I'm a new planner junkie. Currently working on mine and my niece new Webster Pages planner :)
You are a blessing. I can’t Thank - you enough for referring us to the free printables , the smart savvy ways you made your planner and your fast talking , well planned video. Bravo~
I have a dollar store planner that fits my needs. I just bought this binder to organize my scrapbook supplies. Thanks for the pocket idea, it'll help with my wishlist for an upcoming expo.
Been using a planner for a while and love your idea. So bright and cheery ... I LOVE IT!! Have been making my own pages from the start with a dot grid ... adding watercolor pages and much fun stuff between my work stuff. Amazing how much more I get done by remaining directed. Thanks for your cute idea.
Great ideas, thanks for sharing. Yes, totally into the planner craze and am going to use some of your ideas as inserts in a midori, fauxdori, happydori, whatever you call it planner that folds. Love those!! Also a big fan of saving money so thanks for sharing your video.
I love the planner craze. I never have time to scrapbook or do Project Life but the planner gives me a mini creative outlet. Making the planner itself isn't something I had thought of, but why not try! Love your video!
Absolutely love the simplicity of your planner. I am a crafter but I love the simplicity of this one. I have been looking for a video like this. Thank you so much for posting this. Love it! ! ! ! !
yes. I have jumped on the planner wagon. gives me another reason to use up my paper. I went the DIY way too. I had an October Afternoon daily flash album laying around. I love it. tfs. your planner came out very cute
I have this exact same hole punch and had no idea before your video it was adjustable! I have been using a single whole puncher DOH! Also love the tutorial on how to make the pouches. Thank you!
I just finished making one with a small binder like this, but I made it more complicated by cutting up the planner for individual pages to put into the rings! I wish I had seen your video first!!!!! yours is super great. I'm hoping to get mine into a semi decent thing in the end!!!!! thanks a bunch for all the great ideas!!!!
You did an amazing job and I love your planner! You were straight to the point without a lot of unnecessary verbiage like I have seen in other tutorials. I simply loved your tutorial👏🏽
I love your ideas. I have just started working with the same kind of notebook, which I already had. I also had some half page dividers and lined paper, and even some vinyl pockets, in my stash. I know I have one of those little week at a glance calendars from the Dollar Tree, but it is currently evading me, lol. That is one of my goals this year, is to get more organized. I'm hoping if I use this book, it will help. Until I find my week at a glance book, I guess I will print some pages.
Love this! I've used Franklin Covey for years, but only recently got sucked into the planner community this past spring. It's fun. I now have a planner for work, one for daily use, and one I use for filing and planning for all my different projects and committees. I've even made my own inserts tailored to my job. I was actually going to use one of your old pocket tutorials (the one with the Christmas theme) to include in my planners. TFS!
I love this video!!! About a month ago I started running into videos about the very expensive planners people use and I can't get into it. I don't have much life that needs planned in a planner and I can barely afford my craft and cosmetic addictions now! I have used these dollar store week at a glance but never thought to customize them. Yours is so cute!!! I never used to buy the month at a glance but will now and I have a laminator that I don't use so this is a wonderful project for me. To conserve money I bought a huge date book calendar on super sale because it didn't sell several years ago and I realized that if I saved it for a number of years I could use it. 2017 will be my year!!! It has 2 pages per day and I just couldn't resist even though my life wouldn't fill 1/4 of it. I'm thinking I will put down my healthy living strategy and maybe some journaling for each day. That may keep me focused and I may actually reach some of my goals! I am so happy I found your videos. I am a fairly new subscriber. Thanks for all your hard work at providing really fun and informational videos to watch and learn from.
I don't have a planner. I put all of my "Things to do today" on a calendar but NOW I might just start thinking about making one. Beautiful and also can make great Christmas gifts. Thanks for sharing!
Loved it all! Now I gotta get some pretty washi tape to do those adorable side pockets! I get a feeling you must have endless crafty ideas swirling around your head! Thank you!
That is genius - and so pretty!Honestly I'd quicker buy something like this than spend a ton of money on an Erin Condren. Glad you showed us how to make it, i'm inspired to try! Oh...subscribed!
I knew I should have checked your videos before I started doing planners. You're always right on point. frugal and fun. However, I did remember "to use what I have", thanks to you!
Great idea. I have a lot of the binders. Now I have some way of organizing the contents stuffed into them. I love any ideas you have to use up the amounts of stash I have. Thanks
Wonderful ideas, Lindsay! This couldn't have come at a better time for me. I'm putting a planner together right now, and will certainly incorporate some of your ideas. I'm using a Franklin-Covey binder that was left over from when I had an office job. But, I also have a separate design notebook made with a small 3-ring binder that will be much more pleasant to use after I add some bling to it. As always, thank you so much for sharing your great ideas! :)
I liked what you did and explained it really well. I am new at this and was just looking into how to make one. Other videos I have seen was so complicated and I was getting discouraged. Loved your video keep them coming.
This is an awesome video! I'm definitely gonna make one of these binder things and theme it around school! This is going to be such a fun project to do! And it will be useful once complete!
I am making my own planner and I thank you for your video on making the pockets for the planner. Also I can't see spending all that money on the planners that are out there in the market place. But I see the need for a simple planner like you have. Again thanks
Omg how funny I came across ur video, Yesterday I took out my mini 3 rung binder to work on it and make it more usable so I could try to get my life together and be more productive everyday, u just same me so much time that I was going to spend searching up how to do a lot of this DIY that you have all un one video. 🤗💗Thank you so very much, Im going to get my crafty stuff out including that pack of stock paper I got at Michael's long time ago and I've never used before. Now off I go to check out your other videos. 😊
FYI, Scattered Squirrel website is still there with free printables. I didn't try to print them yet but everything seems to still be a working website. Thanks for the ideas. I need to get one started for next year. 💕
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I never owned a planer (I know, gasps) and was looking in stores to buy one thinking it may help me become more organized (I can dream, can't I?) and omg the prices on the ones that I liked was crazy high. Was browsing youtube on how to make my own planner and seen your video and I am so happy that I did. I have a dollar store near me where I can buy lots of cheap supplies needed, and I already have some paper I recently purchased, now I just need to get a laminator (been wanting one anyway lol) I am so excited to try this and see what I come up with. Thank you for sharing! ~Kimberley =)
Stopped everything I was doing to watch. I love it! So pretty and what a great way to use up some bits and pieces lying around to create something so useful and fun. Cannot wait to hit the dollar store!
I have used a planner in one form or another for at.least.40 years...Always on a quest for the perfect one for me. Many of your great ideas will work in a disc bound system as well. I am in luv with its ease of use and versatility. Anyway, my 2 cents worth. I enjoy your channel.
Great Video! I have one of those little binders already so now I will make it pretty :) Might have to get busy and make my daughter one for school too! Love it!
I am crazy about the planner craze! My electronic planner used to be fine, but when my schedule got more complicated the phone calendar didn't cut it any longer. So I dug out my old Daytimer (5.5x8.5" binder) and started using that again. For me it's very functional. I love the flexibility the binder format offers. I love that people are creating printables that fit how they need to plan. My planner is evolving as I figure out better ways to translate my life into my planner to keep track of everything. I always loved the prettier Daytimer calendars that were available even several years ago and always used those, but even more than that I love all the creative ways that people are now finding to make their planners both pretty and functional. I'm not one to decorate each month and I typically just use my frixion erasable pen (love that I can erase stuff that changes to keep pages tidy and legible) to write what I need on my calendar pages (no stickers or stamps yet ;-D ) but am moving toward making my own pretty dividers (dashboards--slowly getting hip to the jargon) and tabs and diy pockets for holding extra papers and other necessaries. I love your cheap diy ideas here. So many great ideas in this video. I'm gearing up for a fairly major planner overhaul and will be using a bunch of your ideas. Thanks for your great ideas and video. Please share any future planner ideas!
I watched your video and have to say that it was the most helpful and practical one that I have seen. Thank you so much. I love the folders. Awesome video and project.
Thanks for sharing this! I've been watching plenty of planner DIY's and their all very nice and pretty. But your video gives nice, crafty and practical tips! Perfect with the rounded corners! Think I have to look for an old binder in the stash and get going. ;) /Marlen
If you don't want to adjyst it all of the time it us worthwhile to get the mini size. Staples has a mini hole punch you can invest in if you are going to be making papers for your planner a lot. I paid about $ 9-10 but I bought it to save on paper. I have already paid for it with savings and have the bonus of being able to make dividers easily.
Love this, easy and cheap! Im thinking how great these would be at a craft fair! Another idea is to make specialty planners such as Disney, Hello Kitty, Scenery, Job related........thanks for the inspiration!!!! Love your videos!
Ps I love planners but I always have even before the craze fun to see all the different stuff going around. I just never decorated in them but now I do makes it more interesting.
Well done blog, targeted and direct without requiring an enormous list of expensive supplies although I wish I had a corner cutter or substitute. I now know how to make 'dashboard' dividers for the various sections like menu planner, incorporating grocery lister promo from store, exercise calendar to track days gym is closed to public, medical form tracker etc. Thanks
+Lindsay Weirich Thanks for simplifying the DIY planner. Now I can make mine without stressing out so much. I've watched a lot of DIY planner videos and this one is the easiest of them all. Thanks Lindsay. As always you're SOOOO crafty! Dawn
I love your planner. It is so pretty it would be fun to work with every day. I used to use planners for everything! That was back in the days when my kids were the age of yours. I liked a big wall calendar in the kitchen by the phone for the kids activities. I remember turning to a new page on our wall calendar and admiring how clean and organized it looked. Then after I had added all the kids activities for the month it was so full there wasn't any room left. It made me feel tired just looking at it. LOL I used my planners for weekly menus and matching shopping lists, I had separate sections (and sometimes a separate planner) for church activities and bible studies I attended, daily devotions, prayer requests (so I could see when my prayers were answered), work activities and meetings, phone numbers and addresses, on and on. My favorite were the zip up ones so sticky notes and coupons wouldn't fall out. Your pockets would be good for that. The only thing I never could get into was keeping receipts--they always ended up as a wad in the bottom of my purse. Now that I am retired my life is so much quieter I don't need a planner. I use an on-line free calendar (cozi.com) that my daughter recommended. We can set it up so we can see each other's calendar so I know when she might need a sitter, or if they should be home if I want to call her, etc. I print up a week at a time and post it on the refrigerator door so everyone knows what is going on. If it is a really busy week I print a copy for each of us (our adult son lives with us) and highlight each person's appointments. But I still love a pretty planner.
thanks lindsay i am inspired to make my own and for my daughters since i'm on a budget and that one looks just as good as the ones i've seen on any other video thanks again for the great inspiration
Hi Lindsey, everything you do makes so much sense & very practical. I'm with you, won't buy a fancy planner but prefer to make my own, have for many years. I'd rather spend on more supplies, though I've amassed a lot already. :) Aloha, chiyo
Love it! I love that you have the pull out weekly calendar and that you covered it with pretty paper and I love the washi tape tabs. I made something almost exactly like it but I used a $1.50 Daiso 3 ring binder (it's a Japanese dollar fifty store in WA and CA states only so far and other countries) and it happened to be black and white thicker horizontal stripes (befofe Heidi Swapp came up with hers) so instead of covering it up with another patterned paper, I made all the printables black and white (which are free at my local library--up to 75 prints a week if black and white). I also found free ones and it may the same as yours. And then figured my decorations would make everything pop in color and focus where I needed it to. I am a big calendar girl but I'm not a big planner girl and this way was my $1.50 way to jump into it and I only used it Feb and March and yawn...lol. I use my 2 year small monthly calendar the most because it fits in my purse and I pull it out whenever someone is trying to make plans.
I love this video. You made it look super fast and super easy and I love love love the fact it only cost you $2 lol. I love the idea of the huge binder. makes it so easy to add stuff to it later :) and its wide enough to do that. And I love how easy you made everything. like the pockets. Very very clever :) you've got a fun personality and thank you so much for sharing
