I’d recommend using a plastic razor to trim the vinyl. The blades are made just like standard square razor blades, but are made from hard plastic (PTFE). That way, you avoid cutting into the paint. Just a pro tip...
What your not doing is using an anomia based glass cleaner. You first spray the sticky side of the tape them lay out down. It will slip around to get it perfect. Use a squeegee to get the air bubbles out and the glass cleaner will squeegee out also then just let it sit and your done a perfect job with no air bubbles.
Good idea. I remember the first time I dropped a tool on my draw, I was pissed. Snappy said don't worry, you'll get every penny you paid back when you trade up LOL.
I had the 73” classic & the drawer protectors were $650 for the set. I put black vinyl tape on the top for $30 from Amazon. Traded it in on my 68” Epiq with no chips or scratches for what I paid for it. Going to install gunmetal gray carbon fiber vinyl tape in the drawer tops & on the angle under the handles because the power top led light highlights the small scratches on the front.
This is really useful video. I did samething on my snap on classic tool box. As a result, I could save over $400 for drawer top protectors. (The price of Snap on cabon protector set is over $500!!)
I have the same color combo on my 84” epiq and my roll cart, and did this the first month I owned it, I also did the bottom where your finger nails scratch the drawer when you open it..awesome video
I bought a roll of that carbon fiber wrap six months ago, no idea what I was going to do with it,,,,, well shit, guess I'll be doing both of my boxes now. Good idea. Looks brilliant. Nice thing about that wrap, if you do need to peel it off it doesn't leave all sorts of adhesive behind.
Can we get an update on how it's holding up ??? I have a roll of the 3m wrap in my hand and I wanna do it to my brand new krl 722 I just got a few weeks ago .. it looks great btw
I got the snap on carbon fiber drawer guard for my krl1022. You have to get it right the first time or the carbon fiber will break if you try to peel it off. I did wrapped my front trims with 3m carbon fiber wraps though. Really nice and sticks well.
Cause my Epiq is black on black, I took apart the drawer and carbon wrapped the top part and the bottom (the red part on your box) and left the center black chrome. To me it was just a lot faster not having to trim with knife and chance cutting into paint. I used VViViD+ which worked very well and I ordered it off Amazon.
Don't peel backing till you line it up. Tape in center, peel backing on one side, cut it off, then lay down. Pick up other side and repeat. No sticking and peeling
Thanks for this. I started doing this and may I suggest a method? My box is white so no matter how straight I try to line the front of the drawer, White would show. I found if you remove the screw on one side and remove the drawer clip, you can slide out the drawer trim completely. I was able to apply the vinyl on the top, easily fold over the edges. Trim the excess hanging past the edges without the fear of cutting into the paint. Slide the drawer trim back in and install the clip. Now I have the wrap that goes under the drawer/opener and no original paint showing even opening the drawer
Looks pretty cool on a black box, but I'm wondering how this would look on my Arctic Silver Master series box. I was doing an exhaust job that involved heating the manifold nuts with a torch. Two nuts came off easy, and the third one rounded off. I ran to my tool box for a smaller socket with a lit torch, and put a burn mark on my top drawer!!! Thoughts? Would Arctic Silver, and carbon fiber look good or too much contrast?
When were those uniforms issued to Hyundai?! Been a Hyundai tech since 2016 and never seen these. Just saw recent months that we were switching to black uniforms.. are these them? Lol how many years later.
That's awesome great job man, my snap on guy told me if I wanted that carbon fiber look on my drawer, I said ok but when he told me the price I was like na fuck that I'm good 😂 great video and idea ima do just that.
I bought some but never tried it yet, you can heat it and put it on some odd shapes and stuff, will have to try soon, good idea using it on the drawers ! Cheers !
Love your channel. Any tips of storing wrenches? The snap on plastic cases are too tall for my box, and a touch too wide. Any ideas rather than just laying them down in the drawer?
I bought a brand new Snap-On KMP1022 Tool Box in storm Grey black trim today. Love my new box with the power drawer and power bedliner top. Was $7140cad traded in my KRL 722 and got $4000 for it. Was it a good deal to you?
Looks freakin' great, like the that carbon fiber and the shadowing stuff was planned or somethin. Got an episode idea for ya. Explain the difference between the box styles, the epiq, classix, master, etc. for us less educated folk, thanks
I'll look for it but....who sell the foam mattress you used for your ratchet drawer? I like that texture. Did you shadow box that? Very nice cuts....looks professional.
Shit man that looks pretty damm good and easy to do I'm going to have to do that to the old classic of mine my drawers a getting nicked up pretty good on that part 👍🏻🔥💪🏿on my box
Ya totally wish I had done something like that seven years ago on mine lol you have to try and take the best care of them because they cost so damm much but you can't be a tech without a snap on box lol just kidding on that but for some damm reason we all have one 😜👍🏻
steel would wear guys. and buying snap on I've gotten every penny back trading them in on new boxes. also if youre smart you'll buy when snap on has 20% off financing it, plus my snap on guys gave me an additonal 20% off initially. so basically my box is $28K -20% =$22.4k- 20% = $17.9K. he gave me $8k for trade in that I paid for a repo box $4k..... long story short I paid 14k for a crazy ass tool box and wrote it off for my business... so yeah there is mark up, but snap on is a great product and when you buy the best its easy to off load it.... unlike other brands!
Love watching your vids man. Always watching at school and when I'm free, Was wondering empty how much was your box roughly, if you don't mind saying on the comments. Just curiouse cause in Australia no fucker has these. Just fucking kingchrome stuff. Four blokes at my onsight place have the EXACT same box
I have the epic 68 black so I know what you're talking about on the mild scratches and I have the purple pull handles And I must say again excellent job on the power drawer my dealer told me I couldn't do it and they can shove it up their ass because I knew it can be done Excellent job thanks again
Thinking that epic cost 20k for just the roll cab LOL, about 8k around there depending on your dealer and current deals snap on offers. Also if ya did buy a 20k 72 decked out epic with hutch side cab and all why spend another 400 for some snap on liners when online car wraps work fine for no extra mark up.
