I've been agonizing over an inexpensive, quick, easy structure for goat shelter and hay storage. This is intriguing. How does the hay at the front and back hold up as it's exposed to moisture? I enjoyed the video!
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 3 года назад
The hay at the front can get a bit wet if the wind is blowing while it’s raining. If the shelters back is to the wind it will help a lot. We’ve now turned this shelter into a greenhouse...they’re multipurpose for sure!

Enjoyed the video Sam. That a nice inexpensive shed that could be used for many things. Y'all take care and God bless.

Sam says he thinks it’s 6 (can’t remember from back then and it’s all under hay now!). I just checked the link and it worked fine so give it another try, maybe they were updating the site 😀. www2.ca.uky.edu/agcomm/pubs/ASC/ASC189/ASC189.pdf

It does look like it could be able to make. But if it’s used as a chicken coop don’t you need to put chicken wire over the top,I would think some animals could climb and get under the tarp and get the chickens?
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 4 года назад
Yes, chicken wire the whole thing would be better. I had premier one electric fence around my coops so nothing could get to them. But the chickens ended up figuring it out and I had a couple escape. So wire the whole thing!!

It's about 6 feet wide and is 8 feet long

Have you made a Suskovich tractor? I’m curious how you would compare the two! As a co-op, I wonder how predator-proof this is? Thanks so much! I love its multiuse capabilities!! I might just make one for temporary hay storage.
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm Год назад
ThenSuskovich is worth the investment. It’s held together the best of all the coops we’ve had. It’s not as cheap as this one, but it’s by far the sturdiest. Highly recommend. We also use this non-suskovich design for a green house and it works really well. As a coop I think it would work well, just make sure the chicken wire goes all the way down and is nice and tight!

Are you in a wet winter climate? So where does the condensation go? Usually it will drop off Tarps and onto hay. How was this not happening?
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 2 года назад
This is a great question! We live in a somewhat dry winter climate (it snows…but it’s not very rainy or wet). Never had condensation issues. We kept the structure as you see it here for about 1.5 years before converting it into a greenhouse because we had better more permanent hay storage available. But for being in a pinch in time and finances this did great for us!

And... you don't have to paint it!!! and if it gets hailed on, you just replace the tarp. I love our wooden coop, but I kind of wish we'd have gone this route, especially since it can easily be portable besides!

It works very well and I've been very happy with these coops/sheds. They're not for everyone, but they really do have many uses and the mobility is such a huge plus. Thanks for stopping by!!

Use bigger wheels
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 4 года назад
Michael, I think you're right. Bigger wheels will work well with goats and full grown chickens.I would be concerned with larger wheels making too much space for chicks to get out. Thanks for stopping by!!

Don’t you have hardware cloth on the bottom of the coup I have seen some that have fencing or wood runners that let the birds access the grass and bugs but stops them from getting out of the tractor
