Oh yer! The flocking makes such a huge difference and is such a great method of bringing anything to life! Haha yep, those stone tiles are a bitch. I'm hindsight I would have probably painted the cardboard up before cutting it, then costing the base in glue, sticking down the tiles and adding the flocking in between while the glue is still wet.

Couldn't agree more! And yer I think I could have gone a little shorter with the walls. But it was just too easy to cut them in half haha.

Great ideas. I'm actually working on a few modular archways for the build at the moment to help add some more visual interest. Some pillars would also have been a nice touch. Might have to make a few to add into the scatter 😁 cheers

Cheers mate! That means a lot! Hopefully you can find some other bits and pieces of inspo from my other byulds. As for this build, I'm not sure about primer, it couldn't hurt, but really everything is covered with glue which is a pretty good protective layer by the end. Also After filming I ended up hitting these with a fairly heavy layer of Matt clear coat as a way to give it some extra strength against use. Primer is never a bad idea tho haha

Yep! Happy accidents haha. The entire system fits nicely in a fairly small box by stacking them inside each other. It worked out well in the end aswell because I made them dead ends, so being smaller they fit easily in the gaps between the main peices

Thanks. I'm sure you could manage with just about any kind of glue. You would just have to make a few changes to the approach. Like wood glue and super rglue would work, but you would probably need to do sections one at a time and wait for it to dry so the flocking doesn't fall off. The spray glue is handy as it goes tacky. You could even try using a green acrylic paint and covering it with flick as it dries for your first layer. Then filling in the gaps with other glues

Another great way to do it. You could make a selection of walls and just have one big base peice that way so you could make any shaped maze section you like...could even have removable sections for secret doorways

Yer I've seen some really nice styrofoam hedges in the past (I've even made some haha), but I think the results with the scourers is a lot nicer in the end as it kind of has that look of the small branches when you look at it up close. And the added bonus that if anything falls apart or breaks then the underlying layer still looks right, where as foam breaking or cracking will need a full repair. And I think you're right about the height, while mine looks nice on the table it will definitely cause some issues of sight for players, we will have people standing up to look down. I would probably go no higher than 1 inch if I was to rebuild this

Well that all depends on how you choose to play the maze. My intention is a feywild enchanted maze so things will be changing and destroying the walls won't be as simple as some might expect. But then again you could make some modular destroyed wall if you wanted to let your players just smash their way through

Oh now that is a very interesting though.....pre colouring the chipboard would be a game changer!!!! I may have to look into this 🤔

That is a very good question...🤔 I started with 4 packs of 5, and ended with a few left over to get my full maze. But ended up using them for some other builds

Ah dam, the Amazon ones are good tho, they are exactly 6" which is nice for scale Assuming they're the same ones I got on Amazon

I tend to use rulers for movement and attacks. I have a few cheap clear ones marked with basic distances. I'm personally not a big fan of grids as I don't like how it takes away from the visuals of the builds, and I feel like it limits movement to back, forward and side to side. Where as a ruler can allow movement in any angle

They are the best free STL I have ever found!

As many times as I can throw my players into it, that's the fan of being a DM I can make it happen if I really want haha. Or I can just throw a handful of dungeon crawl one shots in the mystery feywild hedge maze

I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for that, always love to see how others approach similar builds

Yer I think that I may have just been rushing at that point haha. most of the measurements are accurate...accept that one. Might also have something to do with my ancient janky saw, but I guess a good workman should never blame his tools. Lesson learnt for next time 😁

You lack imagination my friend. Remember this world has magic. So maybe this is a feywild situation or it's just a maze that's been enchanted. Just gotta switch in your DM brain. "As you try to climb the hedges they seem to grow taller and taller continuing to block your view" "As you cut into the hedge you realise that there is a brick wall behind the hedge" "As you touch the hedge you begin to get sucked in with a razor sharp living vine" Also, I never delete a comment, I'm just lucky to be involved in a this great community.

The options are either that they can or they can't destroy the maze. So I gave you some reasons that they cant. My point is that in this fantasy world things never have to be as they appear and the solution to everything isn't "let's burn it down" But hey, if that's how you wana run your games then go nuts

Your response to the issues is to turn your hedge maze into something utterly indistinguishable from a standard dungeon except green. That's not 'the problems you see aren't problems' that's 'the problems you see can be ignored' If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and lays duck eggs, you have a duck. You have managed to invent a totally new way of doing Stock Default Game Mode 1 - if we paint it green, it's totally different. In my experience, you tell players something like that they ASSUME there's some reason behind it and try to find the trick, when you then tell them again and again that reasonable steps to try fail because you've decided they can't do them, you're going to have irritated players. You're not being imaginative, you're forcing a player base onto rails and patting yourself on the back for doing it. If i tell you, as a player, that upon a closer look the wizard's tower isn't stone, but is instead a writhing mass of worms so embedded with each other there's no telling where one begins and ends, you, well, virtually any player, is going to assume this detail has been added because it is relevant to resolving whatever dilemma is being faced. This is elementary story telling. @@SebMakesStuff

I think you're missing the entire point of this build, if you want this maze to be something the players can just carve their way through then you probably wouldn't be building a big modular terrain set for it. That can all go down in theatre of the mind. I personally am building this for a feywild dungeon crawl. So it is intended to essentially be a big enchanted trap. And yer making it green because sometimes it's fun to mix things up from the stock standard dungeon walls. And who's to say that there isn't a reason for everything in the maze to be the way it is, and that there might not be tricks to get around it. That's up to the individual and their game. I'm not here to tell anyone how to run their games. Some people might want to carve their way through everything, some might expect everything the DM says to be a clue or a trick, and some people might just enjoy a classic dungeon crawl in a pretty garden. But I find that if you establish the rules of the situation then it's not railroading, it's just the situation they are in and have to solve. There's always room for players to break the rules if they come up with something interesting. There's no wrong answers in this game, just the wrong tables.
