Out of all things, British petrol costed the most on this trip abroad. That's crazy. Also, you should've gone to some more rural train stations! They would be really interesting to see

I like the "crazy bus". The drivers were willing to give change for the ride. Mexico City and Tijuana have similar crazy busses, they are kind of a grass green and white two tone color.
@benolifts
@benolifts 5 лет назад
They are concentrating on giving change at the same time as driving at speed trying to overtake a regular bus.

Epic CCCP lift, Just like what I remember from August 1990 at the Intourist hotel in Riga, present day 🇱🇻 Latvia. The Oktyabrskaya in 🇧🇾 Minsk, next door to the presidential palace, where I stayed 15th to 17th October 2009, had a similar group of lifts, before it was renovated to so-called Western-Bloc standards.

4:54 I'm not certain about this particular lift, but these lifts were actually pretty safe. It was often that if something stuck between the doors, the motor just gives up and stops spinning, but if the safety circuit is not connected then lift is not going to move. These lifts gained a bad reputation not because the mechanism was bad, but because they were poorly maintained... And these scenarios were lift started to move with doors open were happening because bad lift engineers, when these lifts were malfunctioning because of safety errors, were putting bridges inside safety circuit instead of searching the real cause of malfunction.

The majority of people that mention soviet lifts say they are very unsafe. I have heard about engineers bypassing safety circuits. It makes me wonder how dumb engineers can be. Surely they must understand what they are doing and know how dangerous that is.
@megalifts
@megalifts 3 года назад
@@benolifts It is very easy to bypass because this is relay logic. Some engineers are dumb because they are bored of their work. It is common as they have very little salary. The lifts themselves are pretty self if they are in good condition.

18:00 The lift sounds like an Ecodisc... maybe an Toshiba Ecodisc imported by some small ukranian company? They also uses teh typical KONE Ecodisc doors here as well...
@Waberner
@Waberner 5 лет назад
Well the doors say nothing. Kone gets their doors from Wittur, same as many generic companies.
@SummerADDE_Elevators
@SummerADDE_Elevators 5 лет назад
not true, as KONE doors have their own specification, despite being made by Wittur. @@Waberner

These sounds when the lift is moving is the floor selectors.
@benolifts
@benolifts 3 года назад
Soviet lifts don't have a floor selector. They have a higher or lower than switch on each floor that the lift sets as it passes.
@megalifts
@megalifts 3 года назад
@@benolifts I meant those. They are actually called floor selectors in Russian.

Ben, what would happen if you opened the soviet lifts doors while it was moving? Would it keep moving or stop?

The soviet lifts are really tempramental, like they have a mind their own. You never know if they work and if their safe. They seem possed by some kind spirit. The Asian generic looks to me like a Mitsubitshi “clone”.
@benolifts
@benolifts 5 лет назад
I do not trust soviet lifts. If I managed to get the doors open I still don't think I would surf it. Don't let the doors close on you in case the mechanism keeps closing and safety manages to connect with the doors open. And I have been told not to press the stop button on the way up in case the power cuts but the brake doesn't apply. I wonder if there are any weird glitches that would happen by pressing different buttons at the same time. The logic doesn't seem to be designed to be fool proof. A lot of asian companies copy Mitsubishi. It is like the ultimate lift that lifts should be designed to be like. Some Mitsubishi clones can look pretty good, but the car tops give it away as not being as good.

As a Russian myself yes. £100 to £150 in the UK for a single-entry visa and around £150 to £200 for a double-entry visa.
