The unfortunate thing is that the drive is a SMR drive (Shingled Magnetic Recording) which has decent read speeds, but dreadful write speeds. Use it only as cold storage, and even then , writing to it will take an eternity.

That drive is only 5400 RPM - that's one of the reasons why it's cheaper. It does have 256MB cache which is the same as the 7200 RPM bare drives.

The downside of shucking is warranty support if the drive fails.

The reason its cheaper is because of the warranty.
