Every time I see Tommy’s Jeep, it’s a great reminder that even with no lockers or fancy suspension, it still goes everywhere that every vehicle y’all have put it against will go. A stock Jeep with good tires as all that 95% of off road going people need
@MrJamesLuz
@MrJamesLuz 2 года назад
That’s why I laugh to myself every time I see a Jeep or a Tacoma on 35s driving around. Most midsize vehicles on 33s can hit 80% of the trails and a full size on 35s is a good combo. But I have a stock ‘02 Xterra on 31s and I love hitting trails and rolling up on a group of “overlanders” and the priceless looks I get. Haha.

@@MrJamesLuz 35 inch tires are like the worthless size. You need to have 38’s at least to do any kind of actual rock crawling and most trucks or suvs with 32-33 inch can do whatever a 35 can do. 35s are for appearance and worse gas mileage for no reason.

Tommy, when you turn on the trail turn assist you want the front locker on to drag the front end around. That would eliminate the situation where one front tire was spinning and forward progress stopped around the turn

How many stock crossovers, trucks, and SUVs will actually handle these obstacles? I thought they looked pretty weak too, but I had to reassess what they’re building them for. They’re for stock vehicles and should separate the weak from the strong. You know 98% of people will never tackle anything like this.

In my experience, limited slip differentials work great. I’ve had them on several trucks and SUVs over the last 20 years. 99% of the time they’ll do exactly what you need and you don’t have to worry about breaking the axles either. They’re great for driving in the snow and on slippery roads. Lockers are great for some off-road applications (like rock crawlers), but LSD’s are perfect for a daily driver. It’s really the open differentials that suck! You basically just have one wheel spinning, which is terrible, especially if it’s a 2wd vehicle. It quickly becomes a one wheel drive, which is no good. The LSDs are tried and true and make a huge difference.

@@canyonero2050 I do believe it would be. The base model wrangler has a trick up it's sleeve that people never take advantage of. All you need is two 18mm wrenches and a few minutes of time to disconnect the sway bar links and the base model will wheel circles around you upper model broncos. And just so you're aware, putting 35's on a JL sport or Sahara would still classify them as stock because the vehicle itself doesn't need to be modified in order to fit them.

First and foremost, all the props to David and his trail building! Way to go, David! As for the obvious disparity between the cost/functionality of the Bronco and the Willys Jeep? I love it! This really shows that you can take the expensive toys if you've got the $$$$, but if you aren't as well-financed, you can still make it through safely and with a lot of fun in a more basic vehicle. It was also a good first drive test of the offroad course at Tumbleweed. Looking forward to more tests in the future. The new Broncos independent front would walk all over any wrangler on any terrain in the desert over 35 mph. Especially if it’s a 4 door. Just goes to show a decent 4x4 with good tires is all you need to get out there. Modify and trade up if you find what you have isn't enough for what you like to do. Also make sure you know how to chg tires and go out with other 4x4ers. It'll help you find your comfort zone AND teach you somethings about how to get out and fix trouble when you're out there.

These 2 door rigs look so good, out in the country. Exactly why I want acreage to play around on....lol. Your dog is cool. You can tell he likes car rides.

Well, to be honest, the specs on this Jeep being "cheap" isn't that different from a loaded $50,000 4-Door Wrangler, unless it's a Rubicon or Mojave version. The mechanicals are still the same and the fact it's a 2 door gives it some advantages over the larger more expensive models.

The courses (rock, logs and holes) needs to be more black diamond rated. Right now they are a mild blue.

Great video regardless of the difference in trim level. You mention the Extreme Recon. And I could be mistaken, but I believe there are 3 reasons you couldn't add that to your Jeep. I think it can only be added to a 4 door, automatic transmission Rubicon. You have the opposite of that. Lol. But with Bronco, you can add Sasquatch to a manual transmission 2 door base model.

Great trail! Gives the look of real difficulty, while actually providing quite little xD Given you test loaners, we get it 😆
