Thank you Julie...that was some good advice which, as a complete noob, I intend to take. My particular favourite was when you said, 'Some days your hair looks good, some days you wear a hat.' That made me smile because it's so true. Thanks again. Keep on with the tips, they are real little gems!
Making mistakes is part of the learning process. I had a woman look at my artwork. "You are so talented," she said. "I took a watercolor class and couldn't do it." "How long was the art class?" I asked. "6 weeks," she said. "I have been painting 2-6 hours a day for 10 years," I responded. "It is not talent. It is practice."
Thanks 🙏. People don’t realize how many species of plants ,trees , animals, insects ,it’s entire ecosystem, were losing everyday. Children nowadays don’t even know what forts are . I love painting the forest 🌳. Keeping it beautiful,is our responsibility. ✌️
I hear what you're saying but talent does play a part in it. My family on my mothers side are very artistic. I mean professionals as well. My fathers side couldn't draw a stick person. And I mean that. So yes you have to have some talent.
2:11-2:22 the things you were talking about affects you negatively. I get the same furrow between my eyes when I think of all the nonsense that keeps me from having more artistic thinking...those things have kept me from allowing myself to make art. Somewhere along the way, my art became second fiddle to the darn housework, and life’s daily Duties! I’m working on it, that’s why I watch this!
Been doing acrylic painting for a couple months now (newbie). "Only" following RU-vid tutorials - I don't draw well, and am afraid to do my own stuff, I think I"ll just sit there staring at a blank canvas, lol.... but for now, copying tutorials is a great confidence builder so I can try on my own later.... my training wheels, if you will...I LOOOOOOVVEEE Boone! We're outside of Charlotte!
Your advice is well taken as a new painter❤️ Im 58 and never picked up a brush or have ever drawn a thing in my life...Im amazed at what Im capable of doing with the help and advice of fellow artists..Thankyou
We as artist only see it as failure, just open up paint let your soul be free because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And everybody sees Beauty in your art.
Well Julie, you have just about nailed all my excuses and hang ups for not just getting started. Procrastination is the thief of time. Putting off until tomorrow is easier than starting now. I started my art journey in 1989 - China painting, drawing then moving to watercolour. I was flying and then we bought a farm. I was an integral part of the business so my time was limited for painting not to mention the headspace which was constantly cluttered with non art. I have managed to get some work done over the past 30 years and recently had an exhibition of work during that period which I was very happy with. I have a studio equipped with all the tools I would need to paint for a thousand years but when I go in there I feel depressed. I have a mental block which won’t allow me to get started. I feel part of my problem is the absence of any artistic stimulation. Just to speak and exchange ideas with others. This post was not just to moan but to 😊 thank you for your practical and cheerful advice. I will keep watching and look forward to some positive outcomes in the not too distant future. Kind regards.
Sage advice!!! I especially appreciated documenting ideas. In this world of RU-vid there are so many incredible people sharing their process, guidance and tips. I am committing to documenting ideas now! I chuckled when you referred to remembering things - that great tip or technique you wanted to try?!? Where did it go? The second thing that has occurred to me is how easy it is to continue to watch these videos in your quest for knowledge - and then you realize you have become addicted to watching videos. “Just one more” and before you know it you have used up the minimal amount of time you had to actually do something! ARGGGHHH. I could ramble on about ego and perfectionism etc. But you covered it so well in your beautiful engaging style. Loved this video!
Thank you. Just a beginner with lots of things that stopped me playing for 6 months. Now I am all set and it's so hard to get myself going again, you know what if is bad? What if I can't finish it? Sooo time to move and forgive.
Thanks Julie for your good advise. I haven’t been finding the time for my art for a while, but yesterday I was forced to sit and wait at home for about an hour or so, & thought while I was waiting I’d grab a piece of watercolour paper and pencil and do some sketching, It made me realise that you just have to ‘take’ and ‘make’ time for your art. I enjoyed my time sketching , so, today I’m making time, and I’m going to paint my sketch. 🥰
Thank you I needed to hear this. It's been many years I've been away from drawing or painting. I'm thinking where do I start I have little confidence at this point. I got to start somewhere. If i bomb i bomb ! Oh well... At least I tried. Thanks !
I always start with a paint brush, paper, paints and water.😉 O.K. I was being a smart A$$, but the truth! I look at something that inspires me at the moment, just like right now as I say that I happen to look at the fruit sitting in a bowl on my cable oh, I think I'll paint that right now. See you just made me think of something to do and how to start, that's how we all start. Even with somebody's comment as yours, thank you you have given me something to do today!!
@@vickicervantes1817 ok no more excuses I'm just going for it !!! I want to paint a foxes face. I love them so it should make it more enjoyable. Thanks for your imput..... so did you start on something???
Thank you so much for creating and sharing this video! I will be sharing it with my students! It's all great information and even seasoned artists could reflect on these points.
Julie is Awesome isn't she! She is so caring and giving all to her fans that love her 🥰 I always take her tutorials to heart, she always helps us out! I Love her too. When I'm down and out I just watch Julie and she has me smiling by the time she dine with her tutorial ❤😊❣
Thanks any brothers and sisters who love art .I Iwork at night it's I'm so sleepy tired and I don't have energy can someone give me some advice to help me keep up on my art.
Dana Gambrill Keep a sketchbook next to your bed. Your brain is working on new ideas even when the rest of you is resting. And keep a sketchbook with you all the time... you would be surprised how many times you will be sitting, waiting... and an idea hits! Good luck to you sleepy painter! Thanks for watching! Julie 😃
Thanks for your words of wisdom. I'm putting my first painting in a show and the negetive voices are killing me😕...just going to have fun and let it go...
As a first time entrant please enjoy the challenge and remember that its only one person's opinion when you are judged. There is usually two hundred plus entries and they are limited to a certain amount controlled by the size of the gallery space. Keep trying if you aren't excepted, there will be many other exhibitions.
thanks, the most fun I ever had was with ceramics. When things didn’t turn out when I took them out of the kiln, I would gently drop them on the cement floor so it would break. Gave it an opps, and then I tossed it and cleaned up the mess.
You have such a natural conversational style, it would be neat to see you with informal conversation with the visiting artists you have at cheap joes..ala comedians in cars getting coffee vibe
Don't throw out the art you don't like. Someone might love it and buy it. I have paintings I'm not proud of that people have said "that's my favorite one". Also if you don't like your work it just means it's not finished. I'm never sorry when I put more time into my work.
I also agree with Sherry Lewis! I guess I'm not the only person that needed to hear this most valuable information. I've been very down on myself today UGH... Thank You Julie, I cherish all of your You Tube tutorials.
Vicky, I think we all are hard on ourselves and don’t honor the “artist” within ourselves. I reserve that title for those body of works I see in galleries and such by folks I see as having natural born talent. The folks I envy so! But thru art journaling, I’m loosing up my style, approach and self talk and find I enjoy just goofing around and exploring my art materials and supplies. Hope you are employing these things in your own art journey!
I'll never give up my art, that's like cutting off a finger. Art is the most up lifting Relaxing hobby, it's my way of tuning out everything and creating a masterpiece.
I have 0 confidence in my work! People love it when they see it but I do my best to not show them as I hate my work!! Thats what stops me starting a new painting!!
