Another cheap sleazy box fan fails to run properly. All while even Lakewoods from the 80s and 90s continue to run strongly. So much for "Innovations in home comfort!"
It's really funny too that they also make the blades of those cheaply made fans to almost resemble the blades on an airplane propeller, but the blades on these sleazies have an extremely shallow depth and pitch, providing just some airflow only towards the center where they attach to the hub, while the outer half of the blades towards the blade tips provide practically no airflow at all! Of course, luckily, there is a remedy for the extremely shallow pitched blades, which can be found at • How to make a Lasko bo...

ok, heres to everyone defending these cheap fans..yes they do work for a short time..but they really dont make them like they use to..your lucky to get 10 years out of one of those new Lasko's any of the models they make are made to break at sometime or anther. and if you really care enough about what you buy then you can easily get a 1990's box fan at a thrift store or flea market or whereever..if you ask you can get a vintage fan for like 10 bucks or less. :P both Lakewood and Lasko made good fans back in the 90's very dependable. and yes Lasko does still make the fans in the USA but the motors are pure China Pride junk....like i said your lucky to get a years outta a new fan..weather its a Lasko,Aerospeed or anything else. all new fans are crap..even the HV fans. they make a few half assed decent ones..but thats it..

@torythefanman, I agree with you. In fact, I have a lot of old fans and they give me no trouble whatsoever. And yes, newest (today's) fans were the worst fans you will end up seeing everywhere.

Thanks for pointing out the detail about the motor coming from China while everything else about the Lasko fan was made here in America. I would've thought the whole product came from China.

@ToryTheFanMan, not to mention my aunt has been through let's say, 12 lasko box fans the exact same model since 2008, and each of them broke in short period of time. Lasko thinks that their fans are built to last, with the steel body, and made in USA, which is total BS. Once you buy any lasko fan from walmart, its not very long before it ends up in the landfills Even cool colors box fans are definitely the same ball game. Even everything else in addition to fans that is brand new out of the box is built to break in short period of time, whether is washers, dryers, AC units, fans, microwaves, refrigerators, and everything in between. In fact, I have five vintage box fans (lakewood/kmart) and they ran perfect ever since I used them, even the robeson still works despite the cord being in bad shape. Its not just china, its the way things are being produced and manufactured with cheap materials, which is in a manner that is unacceptable and not good for the planet. Back when my mother was born, she explained about how things were fixable back in the 60s, and my grandfather even knew how to fix appliances if they break down, well this was when she was a little kid, which EPA, or eco-friendly wasn't such a big deal back in these days. We all looked forward to a better future, but it is a total opposite - which has gotten far worse as years got buy. Its a sad world we live in nowadays when things bought from a retailer today is breaking constantly and ending up in landfills. BTW, we have a central air unit in the attic which is ten years old and broke a few times, while the one on my basement which came with my house that was build in 1978 still working perfectly without issues. Quality in today's products are definitely not like the 1970's (which is ridiculous!).

To the people that have a thing against cheap fans. Have u ever thought people may not be able to afford anything nicer. Gee, that's a mind blower that not everyone has about 25-30 bucks to give on a nicer box fan, or even 50-100 dollars on a pedistal fan. Some people are just presumptuous ! Ps I have 3 of these, and a galaxy from 07' and they still work. Oh yeah and a Holmes box fan from 2010. All 5 box fans, cheap, reliable, and work. All cool my house in the summer time.

Honestly, between the two fans featured in the video, I have a Lasko box fan such as in the video which I'm considering donating to the Salvation Army or to Goodwill. I like the Lakewood box fan featured in the video better.

@warmsignal In fact, the cheapo here in the video had that blue fused plug on it. If I can remember correctly, Lasko probably started adding those fused plugs around 2008 or so.

@redead21 I seem to notice too that the big wide blades used in the 70s and 80s move a lot more air than the blades used on today's fans. And especially as the big bulky blade sets of the 70s and 80s have more depth and pitch to them. It would also be great if those fan makers also stuck with the simple 6 pole stators and the housings with the oil ports for the bearings also used in the 70s and 80s.

The vintage 1973 KMart P-48 has never given me any trouble as of 2020 (47 years old), yet still running like day one. The older Lakewood fans from the early 70s, or 60's, yes talking about the models with all metal blades, are even better, as well. Every now and then I go to walmart, I look at the BS labeling on every single lasko box fan, Lasko claims the fans are made of Steel Body, Built to last, and I thought "Seriously??" I picked it up and it is lighter weight which means it's still not going to be built to last very long. They even claimed to have 100+ years of quality, but I would assume they only had less than 90 years of quality. Yet, not even close to 100 years of quality. My aunt went through two or three lasko box fans, none of them were even ten years old when they broke. They were even modern piece of junk lasko throw in the trash fans. I told my aunt next time, go to a second hand store like an antique shop or flea market, and get a good vintage fan, or save her money and get an X-Treme Garage Pivoting fan like you said.
@JoshuaAndMom
@JoshuaAndMom 10 лет назад
Here's the situation: My aunt has the same fan, and one day while she was at work (as an elementary school teacher), it fell over and burned up the motor, does not work anymore. Her fan was even 3 years old and all of the sudden it malfunctioned? I believe she bought this junk fan at some type of dime store about three years ago. Now again, it stopped working. I agree with you @triton115, them Chinese fans are NOT made to last season after season and yes they are indeed garbage. In fact, I have old fans and they give me no trouble whatsoever. Even my Westinghouse Floor/Window fan still works for years and never failed. And yes, you will see new China made fans everywhere.

If you people also notice, Edison and Toastmaster box fans have helicoid blades that are linear and helixed, like a ship's propeller, and those put out a smooth and high velocity flow of air, a lot better than even those Dyson bladeless fans. They don't have that cup or scoop shaped profile blades that only put out a slower, turbulent flow of air.

We have a Lakewood Fan that still runs well, but makes a terrible sound from the grille. I don't know what it is, but I'll do a video to show you. We had a Lasko OmniDiectional Fan that we bought in June of 2005, and now it's broken. It won't rotate anymore and, you had to plug it in to turn on, because the switch was broken. Around the same time, my dad bought a Laske Box Fan to relace his old Lakewood that I loved, because the plug fell off or something. No the Lasko Fan sits in our attic.

@madgamer0001 Once, I dissected a fused plug from a discarded Lasko that I found in the alley with my stepdad's dremel, and I found that the fuse in those blue plugs is actually welded by both ends into the actual wiring that is in the plug, and the plug itself is totally welded together seamless! It is the exact same type of fuse you would see in the plug of a typical indoor-use strand of Christmas lights.

Absolutely! I have vintage Patton and Hampton Bay high velocity fans made the 1970' or 80's made of all metal, about 12 of them that is! I use them all with air conditioning, but only 2 at a time of course! Also have 3 vintage box fans from the 1970's or before. You are correct - if you take care of vintage fans by oiling and cleaning, they will last much longer than the junk of today!

You guys are really ignoring half the fan's point. These Lasko 3733 box fans are made cheaply, and are sold cheaply. Around $16 for a new 3733 right now. Those "highly superior" Lakewood box fans from the 80's and 90's, while built better and more durable, are about twice as expensive or even more! The Lakewood might've been around $23 brand new in 1985, but inflated to 2019, it's around $54.62!
@sethhorst6158
@sethhorst6158 5 лет назад
I sometimes will see a 1990's Lakewood 3rd gen that comes with the box going for $40 on Ebay. Which is about as much as a crappy modern Air King box fan which is a Lasko rebadge.
@FSM_Reviews
@FSM_Reviews 5 лет назад
@@sethhorst6158 Air King? Box fan? I've seen Air King pedestal fans before, and they don't seem too bad, since they have a grounded plug and easier grill assembly, with the front one being metal. What's with the box fans? Why so expensive? They don't seem too different from the regular Laskos. If it's just the grounded plug..........
@sethhorst6158
@sethhorst6158 5 лет назад
I ordered an Air King box fan expecting is to have good quality control and come with the older Lasko blade design, but when it arrived, it came with the crappy flower pedal blades instead and had poor quality control with the blade balancing and a horrible defect with the screw holes.
