Just wanted to clarify something after re-watching this video. In here, I call this tent "expensive" and it is for someone who's just starting out, but when compared to other ultralight tents, 250$ is really cheap. That's why in other vids I call it "affordable". Usually, good ultralight tents cost about 500$. This one has some flaws but I personally love it, and I use it for most of my hiking trips.

So what the good tent 🏕? Green or yellow?

Great video! Question: i could only afford a winter sleeping bag, a cheap one. Am i screwed in the summer? Btw it takes up 40% of my bag.

Vodka..."to stay sharp". Well, that's a new one. Next time I get pulled over, I'll just tell the officer that I was only drinking vodka, "to stay sharp and not get lost".

I really enjoy your sense of humor. Bringing the plant along was brilliant!

Love the humour! Maybe you should do a video on beginner vs experienced hiker vodka requirements :)

Best practical advice I've read on YT. Beginners? get the cheapo. For longer hikes, get the ultra lite.

What do you suggest for as a ground sheet for the REI tent? Since my gym has been closed most of the year, I decided to lose some weight and went from 207 to 185 lb. So how many more liters of vodka can I bring with me? Also bringing 190 proof can double as stove fuel, it's all about maximizing functionality.

I haven't been using anything so far, but you probably should use something. I ordered one from R.E.I. a while ago, but I still haven't received it. You can use a regular tarp probably. Oh nice, congrats. I'm down from 174 to 156 myself this year. The answer is: as much as you can carry, haha.

You are comparing a cheap 2 person and expensive 1 person!! I can see why the cheaper is heavier. Should compairs cheap one person

That's a valid point! I'll maybe do a similar video in the future taking this in accounnt.

Have you ever thought of scaling a larger mountain like Denali or Everest
@OscarHikes
@OscarHikes 3 года назад
Not that high, but I definitely want to start tackling something higher. Next year I'll do Toubkal in Morocco, which is 4167m, and some 4k peaks in Patagonia. I also really want to do Kilimanjaro in some near future. But generally, I'm not into mountaineering, but instead trekking. So I'd be more interested in doing the Everest base camp trek, or the tour du mont blanc, instead of climbing the peaks themselves. Maybe in future. 😉

Haven't watched this one yet, but I just wanted to applaud you on the great content. I'm going through several of your videos one by one and have found them to be amongst the most informative ones. Keep up the good work!

any weight under 1 lb. won't make any difference, whether tent, sleeping bag/ pads, etc.... too many folks don't have common senses .... LOL !!!

Thanks for the review, as far as weight goes , did you weigh the ultra lightweight tent with the trekking poles. Also perhaps you should have compared the Bessport 1 person tent which is still roomier than the ultralightweight tent and is less weight than the Bessport 2 man tent. I have the Bessport Praslin tent 3 man and very happy with it.

I've never done any backpacking or filtered my own water from wild sources, but I was thinking about that recently when I was exploring in the forest and I noticed how lots of streams and creeks had cows grazing in/around them and surely pooping in them too. Probably every stream in the area is contaminated by cow poop further up stream

Of course there's always risk, but it depends on the water source. Typical hiking filters filter our only bacteria, not posticides, chemicals, and viruses. Chemicals and pesticides don't pose a great risk in forests, so the only real threat is viruses. A lot of viruses aren't transferrable from animals to humans, so the risk isn't really that high. Especially if the water is flowing or it's very large compared to the contamination size. The largest threat comes from bacteria, which is filtered out by the water filters. ;)

Thank You, finally some good "down to earth" information on tents. Ordering "cheap and heavy", as a biker with two 60l bags i dont have to be so careful with weight.

There is a place for "expensive" and budget gear, but we are pushing hard to break barriers on Ultralight equipment. We have more work to do and have already been working on quality improvements for version 2 of our tent. Hopefully our tent will one day be regarded as the "best budget tent" As far as we know, we are the only 1 person tent on Amazon that weighs less than 3 lbs, is freestanding, and only costs $99. All other freestanding tents either cost more, or are heavier than 3lbs. See you on the trails! -Jonathan
