@@jonisolis9645 For some reason I can't seem to find your comment about the amphipods so I'm forced to reply here. I know they exist I just can't remember what they are called. After HOURS of researching I can't find anything anywhere. But I had one in one of my old 10 gallons and it decimated all of my plants. They move fast and burry themselves in the substrate like, instantly. I'm going to keep searching because I know they exist. But their name escapes me. I thought they were an amphipod but I'm probably wrong.

If you just had the problem in one tank and other the others that also had soil then maybe you do not need to cook the soil as it might not happen again. But I could see why you might not want to chance it. @@ThePlantedTankTV

@@jonisolis9645 There are more than just that for baking though. When you bake it, it does something with the nutrients and kind of locks them in so they don't leach out as fast if say you are using gravel instead of a sand cap. A lot of people used to recommend "sun" baking which is where you put your dirt on a tarp and let the sun dry it out naturally in the summer time. One of my biggest gripes is when people say " yeah but it kills the bacteria " well I hate to break it to you but that bacteria dies when fully submerged under water any ways. The bacteria that grows in your fish tank is far different than the bacteria that grows in normal compost and soil. There are multiple studies that show aquarium bacteria begins to die after only 4-15 seconds of being out of water. So they are not the same at all. So baking it, from my research has no down sides.

Yes, I read about sun baking soil. Some people think that will reduce the amount of co2 produced and they like the extra co2 for the plants. @@ThePlantedTankTV
@ThePlantedTankTV
@ThePlantedTankTV 8 месяцев назад
@@jonisolis9645 I inject co2 so it doesn't really make a difference for me personally. Ill be giving the whole plenum thing a try very soon with kitty litter substrate so that should be pretty interesting!

That will grow in nicely! I think some stawberry rasbora (chili rasbora cousin) and some sparkling gourami would be excellent in that setup

Always good to see ya J , and it's always good to start another fresh display. As far the Quikrete or anything substrate related for a way to clean it like nothing else , I have been using a swimming pool leaf net and if you are willing to spend $ 15 - $30 it will happen to be a huge time saver and it's nice that you just rest it on top of a 6g bucket or storage bin and the sand dirty by products are all easily discarded. Never seen it on anywhere because I have never shared it before now. I would have never thought about it but growing up with a pool having it around, in eyesight when I had a 150 back in the UG filter w / Maxi jets . Not like you are running around looking for a net but it is very likely the majority of. Amazon " heavy duty " nets aren't going to be able to hold the full load which is why I would rather spend more and go to a pool store and if they rip you can get a new one. As for the featured fish I'd go with a pygmy Cory's & pygmy Hatchet's which needs floating plants and once they get comfortable mine are all over spending very little at the surface and then for the ultimate community fish GREEN NEONS 2 dozen and if you have a PETCO nearby I would see if they can add whatever amount of anything that is on their list and then when shipment arrives you either are going to get a call or show up and they will be in he same bag from the wholesale distributors and for under $100 you would have 30+ which sitting late night just the tank lit the swimming choreography will be worth every penny. 🔌

That's really good info about Perot. I had no idea they did that! I'm on a huge money saving kick right now. Jobless right now unfortunately because I'm in CDL school. But my last day is this Thursday and once I pass my test I'll be making much better money than I was before. Haha life's been crazy for me these past few years. Inflation is definitely not helping. I used to be able to get a 50lb bag of pool filter sand for 10$ now that same bag at the same store is $19.99 which to me is just ridiculous for a bag of sand. Definitely going to look into the Pygmy hatchets. Those sound awesome!!!!

Really like your videos. Your aquascapes are amazing, but yet you seem to use a variety of substrates (gravel, eco-complete and stratum) and mostly low tech (except for some of your expensive lights) to demonstrate plants can thrive in lots of conditions. Also, I like how you are using lots of normal tanks the average Joe can buy instead of always using expensive (and difficult to find lids for) low iron rimless tanks to showcase your craft.

I'm simple and would put about 20 Ember Tetras in there or some Red Slender Harlequin Rasbora. I have both in a tank and they school together and calming to watch. I like that gravel. Thanks for the tip.

Awesome set up. Even better to do it for cheap, that’s right up my alley 😁 Pogostemon stellatus octopus, that is one of my favorite plants. It definitely grows like a weed and can be used as a floating plant as well which I use time to time. The salvinia minima I have as well. They are fast growing and actually cut down the growth of my duckweed if you can believe that. Looks awesome 😁👍

@@ThePlantedTankTV awesome, yes gravel definitely can grow plants . My 100 gallon pond is just gravel and plants grow awesome in there. I’m just not a fan of gravel as a cap on a dirted tank but gravel alone as a substrate is excellent. I look forward to you proving some people wrong 😁

What about Blue Line and Fire Red Parosphormenus? They only grow to 2.5cm, yet they are less common and they look amazing. They are micro feeders and ideally need to be offered a range of live foods and are best kept with small peaceful community fish. Perhaps you could get some Correy Dora as bottom dwellers which would also be good as housekeeping. Just an idea. Anyway, I appreciate you sharing Jay. Thankyou very much, Sir. Like 23 is now up. 👍🏼🙂👍🏼❤️
