I found these on sale in my local ASDA last year for 50p each, so for a bit of fun I bought the last 3 x remaining kits, one for each of the cars in our household. There's plenty of space in the tin and pack for lots more, so for each I added the following: - A Stanley blade, small saw blade (both taped on the edge), Bic lighter, old plastic card wrapped in Duck Tape and insulation tape, mini scissors, a tiny magnifying glass, matches, a little double-ended magnetic (out of my kid's old Geomag set), some lint infused with Vaseline as a firestarter (sealed), half a mini glue stick, needle and thread kit (25p), a pin, a tiny mirror tile (off an old lamp). At the end of the pack, there's space (side on) for a tin of 'Complimints', which I've packed with paracetamol, plasters, gauze, strips of medical tape. Added into the pack, also are hand sanitiser (useful for medical and firestarting), a pack of medical gloves (sealed), wipes, batteries, mini torch, and two energy bars and theres still room - you just need to get creative. As I say, it was just a bit of fun, but having something is 100% better than having nothing. The nice bright red pack easily fits into a trouser cargo pocket, too. 👍
I got a BCB survival tin in a tobacco tin in the 90s. water purifying tabs, plastic bag to carry water, safety pins, needle & thread with a few buttons, fishing hooks and line, button compass, snaring wire, heliograph for signalling, first aid dressings/plasters, wire saw and that has a fire steel, but its scraper was just a cut off end of a hacksaw blade tied on via its hole to the fs… then you’ve got a small saw to cut metal plus an effective spark scraper. This was/still is an SAS inspired item that SAS vet, Lofty Wiseman wrote about in his survival (R.I.P.) book. An old large tobacco tin (gives a bit more room but still pocket sized) and you can make your own up as well to your preference.
Brilliant, just discovered this video, very informative. New sub, great job. Much better than the so called "survival" channels that are now nothing but glamping vids.
Great show mate. AND..... The only show that has used all items and used them correctly and made use of them . With out saying how shite they are.... Its how you use them....... ACE SHOW
I've got to say I'm truly impressed by the stick balancing monk trick, I'm gonna challenge my kids next time we go camping to pull that off, I predict I'm gonna win, Bravo!
Although specified tools like this are easier, a piece of flint (black works best) and your belt knife is just as good.... and the flint is free depending on your geography... ✌👍
Good demo Stu. I'm surprised how much use it actually was. It's a good demo of using what you've got. For the fire shield I'd use green wood and bend it in half and stick both ends in the deck, then you save string and don't get it burning or melting. Just a bit of unsolicited advice there haha Want me to do you a short as a bit of a free ad? The bow-saw config demo is good. Many overlook the easy options don't they. Ed
I fuckin' love the fact that you mentioned America and immediately pointed out the cheap crap we get here lmaooo. Facts. People here always saying that other places have cheap made stuff but America's quality of stuff predominantly isn't so great unless you manage to get your hands on handmade goods or goods from small businesses. Walmart and many megacorp shopping places mass produce low quality items here. You got a new subscriber for that one xD great video.
Only a suburban nloke, but I am sad enough to have thermal blankets in my rucksack and "fishing" vest as well as a selection of torches both battery and windup and a small imitation swiss army knife and folding pliers. The bow saw was very interesting to see.
Might have missed it, being a bit mutton. But, worth mentioning that this variety of wire saw can be fashioned into a snare if required. (I boycotted Asda for 20years while it was owned by WalMart)
Probably because using snares without a licence is illegal in the uk. Plus, how many people do you know that could successfully lay a snare? It’s a “survival” tin. More novelty toy than something that would save your life.
first vid iv seen that shows the wire saw used as a bow saw, last time i used one was for a tree limb that was scraping along a roof, that type of saw and a lot of string cured it
Not knocking your video or skills because I think you know your stuff but your working too hard for me liking. Pull the string between 2 trees ferns for a bed space blanket over the string and sleepy time.
@@captainchaos3053 That's probably what I would have done. It goes to show that even if you are carrying a bare minimum of gear, a shelter element is vital and will save many hours building a shelter.
@simonh6371 Yeah I carry about 10 space blankets in the car and a tube tent and some rope. You never know when you can get stuck in snow or something equally silly and need to stay warm. They fit in a lunch box and are cheap but can save your life. My family of 8 in my car plus 2 spare so a total of about $22-3 for some basic life saving equipment. I have other stuff too but you get the idea.
@@captainchaos3053 I don't own a car at the moment but when I do again I will always have a get home bag in there with poncho, canteen & metal cup, some paracord and some food in it. Also even a light sleeping bag. I used to always have a sleeping bag, tent and gas stove in the car so I could do an impromptu overnight camp - inside or outside the car - if neccessary.
@@simonh6371 good idea. I don't carry sleeping bags but I do have 2 blankets. You can use them when picnicking. And yes a cup and some water are essential.
Thanks ! Now, Can you help me build the whole world a survival kit. I think ole Mother Earth is gonna need one. Naked Smurf guy at the Olympics and all. Evil may surround but the Good Lord abounds!
Just stumbled across this channel, awsome content aswel!! Liked and subscribed.... ... and completly agree... it doesnt matter how good your equipment or how well you have prepared supplies you are , knowledge is key in any survival situation and depending on said situation and location can directly affect priority tasks......
If you have a slightly bigger/ better tin room for a small light weight tarp a piece of para cord head torch you could make up your own kit add to it if you can think of anything extra you might need well done mate
I’m such a dumb ass I have the chainsaw version of the camando saw and never thought of making a bow saw with it, although I’ve not taken it to the woods yet, just tested it on a few longs in my driveway.
interesting video, i saw a few weeks ago, cant remember where but some people were debunking the mylar reflective method, personally i think they are wrong and reflector is bound to help, but a video testing this using a thermo camera or laser thermometer could be interesting test
@@outdoorbasics2562 i like mylar blankets, Mors liked them too in same use as you deonstrated, more than once ive used on elderly people that have fallem as i had my survial kit on me while cycling through cities...
I haven't tried it but it should work, it reflects, but being effectively metal or having the same properties as metal, it also conducts, so you won't get any benefit from lying on top of one. They're actually designed to be loosely wrapped around the body to reflect heat, again if pulled so tight that it's touching the body you will actually lose body heat via conductivity.
@@simonh6371 and use them for too long around the body and you start getting moisture build up which can make you colder, I think Mors Kochanski recommended no longer than 2 hours, he was a great proponent of mylar reflective but with a clear polythene bubble around to make a microclimate called the super shelter
Aw right for 5 quid like somebody else said good for kids to start of with and when your finished with the leaflet you can use it to wipe your arse😂 🤙🏻🏴
10:18 you’d be far better off substituting in an actual limb blade from a tree pruners bow saw. Include 2 sets of through bolts and a couple wing nuts and fashion a proper bushman buck saw. It would last substantially longer and cut with 1000x more efficiency. Many reading this have probably seen some youtubers who when secret one in a Wazoo belt
As per usual yet another survival kit with no proper container to go on fire - single wall, no proper container to securely hold water, (not to go on fire). No proper survival shelter. And no knife. Someone needs to do a survival kit with, a foil lined inside survival bag for shelter, mini multi tool maybe with a ferro rod in that you can pull out. Aluminium Foil you can fold up to make a container, or some of those foil cake tray things. And a foil lined small water carrier.
In the UK you’d be better off carrying a small battery pack to back up your phone battery. Then just dial 999 and get the Mountain Rescue and police to come and get you! There are very few places that wouldn’t work and help would be with you long before you got a fire going and built a shelter.
I Never shop in ASDA, the owners donate around £250,000 to the Tories every year while doing their best to limit the wages and benefits to their staff.
