First saw them the night Elvis Presley passed away August 16th 1977 they were the opening act for KISS at the Cow Palace in Daly City. Have seen them over 25 times live in concert since that very first show. They are older now, but they still rock and sound good. Always loved Tom's thunderous sound live with that 12 string bass. Robin is still the man with a thousand voices, and Rick is still Rick!!!!! 👍❤️
Pound for Pound, Song for Song , Simply Unbeatable in Songwriting, Watching Mr Nielsen teach other guitarists the chords speaks volumes about the songs they wrote.
Thanks for the video. I'm seeing Cheap Trick September 23rd in Peachtree City, Georgia. It'll be my 6th Cheap Trick concert since first seeing them back in 1984.
I had the super cool privilege to be on stage with the boys just a few days before when they were in Dallas/Mesquite. It was a childhood dream come true!!! The DREAM POLICE da da da da....(playing air guitar)
They're STILL fantastic. We were all young once and we all grew old together. Rick doesn't even attempt to hit the high notes with Robin half the time (like on the verse of Voices) Like just about everyone else they could easily be using backing tracks and it and it sound like 1978 . I can see why KISS does it- they're more visual. I'm glad Cheap Trick doesn't
In the dozens of shows I've seen, aside from off-stage keyboards, I have never heard backing tracks. Entertainers will use them and I'm fine with it sometimes. But Cheap Trick? Seems just wrong. I'm glad, too, that they don't supplement their live sound with recorded fill.
i used to think Rick was an awesome guitar player lol...it was the schtick the whole time...I still love him, hey how can you not love Rick Nielson...Still vividly remember my 1st Cheap Trick concert July 1979
Who were they opening for I saw in 78 they were part of 3 bands that night they were the first Band on the second Band was U.F.O. then Rush I’m not going to lie UFO with Lead Guitarist Michael Schenker stole the show ! They were crazy good the day after this show I bought all Albums that Schenker was on with UFO !! I will say this Cheap Trick was okay they hadn’t gotten popular yet they only had 1 album up till then I believe !!
Ricks lead guitar playing sounds so lame, almost painful. It’d be a fun night out, but from a purely technical aspect there are children on social media with far superior musicianship/guitar skills. That said, it’s awesome they’re still a working band and putting butts in seats! That says a lot! 👍👍
@@gregorybejian9269 very true...i met a guy working the state fair a long time ago and he told me he went to highschool with Rick and played with him and said he always sucked...I was offended because I really liked Rick but now that Im old I realize he was right...Still love Rick though!
If you think Rick Nielsen is a bad guitar player I suggest you get up there and show us how it's done. People age you morons and the motor skills fade, but back in the day you couldn't touch this guy on his worst night. I suggest you check out "aint that a shame" , at the 1980 American music awards and then tell me he ain't much.
I try not to leave negative comments, but who ever edited this, cutting these songs to shreds, should spend some time in jail. I love Cheap Trick, they're great, and I love the songs, but it's so disruptive and jarring to be into the groove, and then suddenly cut to something else, I can't make it past four minutes into this video. What was going through the head of the person who cut this video up so badly? Are they even a musical person at all? Please don't ever do this again.
I'm sure he didn't want to hold a phone for an extended period of time. My arms already tired as I write. LOL. Plus, copyright infringement laws may apply if you show the whole show. IDK just sayin
Yes. He missed a handful of shows for an undisclosed medical procedure. But he's patched up and back with us. The licks are still there, just coming to the surface a little later than expected.
It’s Robin Zander’s son…. Robin Zander Jr. He has been with them quite a while now. In simplest terms he fills in all the gaps guitar wise, backing vocal wise etc. that the members of the band simply can not do every night . It allows Rick Nielsen to play in and out as he wishes/ can and focus on a few solos each night and covers a myriad of other areas for the band. Pretty talented musician. Rolling Stone called him Cheap Tricks “ secret weapon” a while back in an article. He is certainly key to keeping the bands sounds steady flowing live.
A lot of these bands just take it way too far.....these guys are ancient now. Gramps on guitar says 'lets party', but now partying for him means staying up past 6 oclock after a game of cribbage. They go from famous, to pathetic.......which is what this is.
