I'm a newcomer to Cheap Trick! How much I've got to catch up on! Mr Zander rocks! What a voice! Working my way through their back catalogue is a labour of love!!
Next Position Please and One on One with Jon Brant on bass are great albums some will overlook because Tom Petersson isn't on them, but theyre all so good you'll be happy singing with them.
Also, some great rarities and obscure (non-album) tracks on the "Sex, America, and Cheap Trick" box set. I highly recommend listening to that one once you've sifted through the albums
The mid to late 90's was an especially great era for CT, and this clip is proof-positive. I've seen them many, many times through the years, beginning in summer '79 and most recently in fall '18... and I'd say that when I saw them in '97 at Stubb's BBQ in Austin is tied for the #1 spot with the first time I saw them in '79. They were just on fire at this time, having finally been released from their long-suffering horrible contract with Epic. They were rejuvenated and had a renewed passion, and it definitely showed when they played live. This is a great clip from a real high point in their long history.
No auto pitch vocals no taped fillers. Raw fucking hard rock. Unbridled Untouchable Unbelievable Talent. This is why I've seen them 22 times since Live At Buddhakhan. Only Halford can hang with Robin.
Yep, this was a really good era for CT. I saw them a year later in '97 and they were just on fire. I think they had just finally been released from their horrible contract with Epic, and they busted out with guns a-blazin'. I've seen them something like 13 or 14 different times through the years, and that '97 gig is tied for the #1 spot with the first time I saw them in June '79. They're always great live, but in the late 90's they were really burning brighter than normal
My first show seeing this band was 1980, most recent was summer of 2019. In the mid 90s I caught them at a lot of bar shows. These guys never seem to care where they play, they always bring it.
The late 90's was an especially great era for them. Like you, I've seen them many, many times through the years, beginning in June '79 and most recently in September 2018, and though I've never seen them put on anything less than a great show, they were especially on fire at this time.
Prefer this over the studio version - on fire... Especially Robin and Tom, and Bun E and Rick, lo Cool to be able to hear Tom and Rick's backup vocals Audio quality good for youtube
Saw them 5/6 times in London '78 > '80... seen many, many top rock bands, imo only Queen come close to them live. Proud owner of one of Rick's plectrums from row 4 at Hammersmith Odeon, London.
GREAT period for them. I'd say the mid to late 90's were their 2nd golden era (the first obviously being the late 70's). They were on fire at this time. The album they put out in '97 was their best album since Heaven Tonight.
I don't know what it is about Cheap Trick...? Everyone I know who's into them has seen them multiple times. I think I've seen them probably 8 times also....and ALWAYS amazing!!
When I'm unsure if I want to go see a band I've never seen and find out Cheap Trick is opening for them, it becomes a safe choice as I know I'm going to enjoy Cheap Trick. They make sure I get my money's worth.
Yup, it's just their music, sound and their raw energy when they play live. I first saw them in 1977 when they did their first big US tour opening for KISS, see them maybe 25 times live since that first concert!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad they finally made it into the RRHOF
These guys are the reason we can't really like new bands. The bar has been set too high. I want Bun back in the band. Pay the guy. Drummers not getting royalties is bull shit.
What struggle? Robin's just as awesome here as ever (and he's still awesome today). No 'struggle' here. The fire is just pouring out of all of them. The mid to late 90's was one of CT's best eras.
@@nikosatsaves3141 "wipe the wax"? Really? I'm sorry you don't know what heavy metal music is, but don't try and flip this around to make it look like I'm the one who's musically confused. Black Sabbath is metal. Slayer is metal. Iron Maiden is metal. Cheap Trick is power pop married to hard rock. This is pretty much common knowledge to anyone who's a true fan of Cheap Trick, or to anyone who knows the difference between metal and hard rock. No, I'm pretty sure it's you who needs to "wipe the wax", bud.
