I have to admit when this video was released on MTV I was only familiar with Dream police and Want you to want me and this song sounded nothing like I expected Cheap Trick to sound like. It's a killer song!
Yep, but I was there from the beginning, early '60's (born in '52) with my son born in '70, we got to enjoy it all! He now has my great grands (4 of em) listening to it much to my grandson's chagrin. GS played drums (as I did) but married a 😵💫 girl, preachers daughter, all gospel, classical type.
@@S1l3333 this was written by a popular hitmaker, i think dianne or dionne warren? they've always been more of a rock n roll band, but needed a ballad to get hits in in the 80s as their popularity in the mid 80s waned
The crowd doesn’t even know the words yet … they were the first ones to hear it and had no idea how big this song was about to become around the world.
Awesome I played this so many times when I realised that my marriage was over 😢still breaks my heart every time. Saw cheap truck at the Broadwater of the sharks club on the gold coast 🎉😂
A very Happy 69th Birthday Robin Wayne Zander. Born in Beloit, Wisconsin January 23, 1953. Cheap Trick Fans are some of the most loyal fans ever. Many, many more Robin Wayne..
Truly awesome. I saw them the week this song hit #1 in New Jersey at Six Flags. It’s kind of cool to see a band perform the #1 song in America live. It’s actually happened to me twice. I got to see Bon Jovi perform Living on a prayer when it was #1 in Little Rock in late February’87. Great memories!
@@pcmelloy I miss these days...I was a teenager so life was often challenging...but damn, the memories. Nostalgia is both the best thing and the worst. I kinda wish I had a time machine.
What an absolutely stunning performance. Robin really sings his heart out on this one, you can really feel it. He also nails that high note in the end, like it was nothing. So awesome to watch him sing this song when it was brand new. You could tell by the stunned crowd. Cheap Trick are STILL Rockin it!
This performance is amazing but I personally was even more impressed by the Houston Astrodome performance from 1989. Totally blew me away and is my favorite live video of any song period!
Yes I totally agree, at times I get very depressed and think that life really sucks, then I listen to this very song and I thank the Almighty for life and Cheap Trick.
Fantastic song and amazing quality for a live performance. 🤘👏👏 Born in '64, it always seemed this was the band all us "rockers" silently liked but never said it too often...
Check out the Houston Astrodome performance from 1989 that one was beyond mind-blowing for me. They had practiced it enough by that point that it was like a religious experience lol
I miss my high school days ,when music like this was playing on the Airways . I regret not knowing that this would end some day. I miss those days terribly and wish ,I would have taken the time to appreciate it more.
"The Flame" is an incredibly difficult song to sing, especially live. Robin pulls it off beautifully here, while playing acoustic, no less! Thumbs up, my man!
ZENMAN5 perhaps one of the best live vocals I’ve ever heard. Robin sings it effortlessly. Truly a pro... and the song is just incredible... one of the best ballads ever
I'm 60 years old now I went to a Kiss concert when I was 14 turning 15 Cheap Trick opened up for kiss and I was mesmerised and to this day I still repeatedly play their videos on RU-vid! Very enchanting heart-wrenching down to earth rock and roll! What better band grow up with!

My husband, lon of 38 years was my flame During our marriage ,he gave me everything,a man ever give to a woman.he loved with all his might He was my knight and my shinning armor.he was my lover,my husband and my very best friend.he was the first and he will be the last.he past away almost 4 years in december and it devasted me.it robbed my from all my happines and there are days, where i think that i cannot go on no more.the only thing that keeps me going is the love i have for.my husband.the love i have for him,is an everlasting flame in my heart that will never be gone.he always will be my first and my last Until,i close my eyes.because i always will love and miss him
Your words are so beautiful ingrid I feel the same way dear.I also lost my wife janice 1 year ago due to complications from ms. We were married for 35 years My whole life is so empty without her. She was my solemate. My every breath. I cannot take the pain that i have to go through everyday my life. She was and always will be my flame. God bless you dear. My god comfort you in your time of sadness
@@ratedrsuperstar1148 Thank You for you beautiful kind words. It really meant so much to me. There are still very kind people out there. You are one of them. God bless you.
Great voice!! Robin Zander my teenage crush 🥰 From South Texas and my brother and I followed the band to every city in Texas when they were touring with this song. I was completely head over heels in love with Robin. Also, loved Bun E. Carlos on drums. R.I.P. one of the best drummers along with Carl Palmer of Asia and Neal Pert of Rush. Good times!!!
@@nealdale4544 What??? Robin displays his great vocals on this song. Maybe your hearing is distorted because you're still listening on 80's clock radio. 😜
In essence this tune is like many other 'missing you' songs. BUT, to sing this live, so clear and powerful makes it one of the best recordings ever. And that bass sound? If there was ever a vid that could take you back 35 yrs in a heartbeat, this is it.
WOW! What an absolutely amazing vocal performance by Robin Zander. Double WOW!! I'll never forget ordering a beer at a Cleveland club in the 1980s and seeing Robin at the bar as I was about to order a beer. I said, "Robin Zander! What are you doing there? Cheap Trick isn't in town tonight." He answered, "we played in Erie, came to Cleveland to party."
A little uptight there Beefwellington? You are correct, there are many out there that can sing, you just have to find them... Radio is no longer the same, so it makes it much more difficult... But now lets talk about you shall we? Medication Sir! Get on it! Quickly! And don't drive until you do!
Talk about memories, 1988, 15 years old, roller rink, Merrillville Indiiana, lights suddenly go dark, disco ball comes on, couples only now on the rink floor when this song starts, slow roller skating backwards with my arms around a girl I had only met earlier that night, my hands in her back guess jeans pockets, hers around my waist as we went around endlessly, thinking this song was only for us. Wonder where she is right now as I type this. . . . .
+Bob Billings Great story. I feel identified because they recently opened a new skating rink in my town here in Costa Rica and the DJ is a friend of mine that loves 80s music and plays this song when it's time to "slow skate" along The Car's "Drive" and Cindy Lauper's "Time after Time". Gotta love how in 2015 we are still skating with these great ballads. Saludos desde Costa Rica
MrRock304 I knew what you were talking about even before I went back to 5:30 to see what you were referring to. Wow, chills here too! And I'm I guy also. Newfound respect for Robin and played this version over and over.Simlly amazing voice!
