Clever hack! This is also pretty safe because you have high volume at low pressure, and you're not modifying anything so the blow-off valve (that yellow thing) will help you keep your digits. As someone who never had luck seating tires, I would have rather spent $10 on this hack instead of wasting $50+ on a Specialized Air Tool Blast that still doesn't work most of the time. Also, I think this video was well done! You'll get more comfortable in front of a camera the more you do it. Soon enough you'll stop thinking about thousands of people silently watching you from the toilet.

That worked amazingly well!!!!! Seated a tire on the very first try. I modified a bit by using a more flexible hose to connect to the valve stem. Thank you so much! Saves buying a compressor or having to go the bike shop. And, it’s portable!!!

Thanks for the idea, but it can be improved. I bought the same sprayer and remover the handle/valve which restricts flow. You can bend the hose and clip in place while pressurizing and then the flow is much higher. Works great.

Thank you so much for this absolutely awesome $10 DIY idea! From the very 1st try, no trial/error, works like a charm! About 50~60 pumps would do it for a 29" tire. (I wasn't able to put in ~70 pumps in it, as it gets too much/hard.) Thanks, Phil!

Add a presta valve to the side and you can quickly take the pressure to 45psi with you floor pump (sprayer only goes to 30-35psi). Disable the pressure relief valve if it has one. Leave the wand trigger handle on for your dump burst valve. I have a RYOBI ONE+ P737 18v small hand drill size portable air compressor and can air the tank to 45psi in about 45seconds through the presta attachment. The tank doubles as a portable wash station for normal use.

Yeah I want to modify the sprayer piece so it's a bit better for showering purposes. I think I'm going to shorten and heat up the long black tube so I can bend it into shape.

Great video. Tip: once seated there no need to worry about the air flowing out again before pumping to full - its not going to "fall out".

I always remove the valve core to help maximize air flow, in which case the air will escape if I'm not quick.

First off THANK YOU! You just saved me $50. This works great and for anyone thinking about buying the 2 Gal. option for an extra $5 that’s what I did for more volume, and it works exactly the same as the 1 Gal model demonstrated.

Usually just do it with a hand pump, which sucks, but I had a bike sitting for a few months so the tire had a few small creases that weren't sitting perfectly so doing it by hand was impossible.. I remembered watching this 2 years ago and rewatched. I grabbed the 2 gal version of thr same pump for $5 more and it set the bead perfectly on the first try... Excellent hack

Hi Adam, I used a 5 ltr sprayer from hose lock. I took the complete spray end off because I have to use it again. I crimped the hose, pumped it up put hose on the valve and it went on first go, I pumped my tyres up to 50 psi, without the sealant in, and later I let the tyres down without breaking the beading, and put the sealant in via the valve. No mess and I've been out loads of times through brambles and hawthorn no punctures, 👍😎

Nice. Those spray bottles are handy. Plus when you are done you can fill it with water and spray off all sealant you spilled all over the place. One Recommendation, you place the valve in spot you will delinquently loose it, I normally put it somewhere I will knock it on the floor and add a good 20 minutes to the job looking for it.

Wow it worked like a charm, With all this pandemic, my bike was seated for more than 3 months, so all the liquid inside was like little marbles, I am using Stan’s race sealant, so it is not possible to add it through the valve, Friday night was a nightmare, y tried everything, even going to the gas station, I ended up with sore arms an of course was not able to ride on Saturday, then I saw this post, on Sunday I run in to a Home Depot and give it a try. It just worked, the only thing I would add is that in order to remove the end tip of the sprayer, you need some heat. Thank you

Skills with Phil - Thanks for the video. It worked out well. After 2 attempts, the MTB tire seated to the rim. I've tried other methods posted on blogs and youtube vids = wasting 6 hours. Your approach took me 30 mins to complete, including time spent at Home Depot. Alton Brown shared that he has a strong preference for tools with multiple purposes. This is one of them. Inflate tires and portable hand wash/shower.

If you mix a little Dawn dish soap with water in a spray bottle and spray the outside of the tire, it’ll seat super smoothly and will mostly self-adjust as it sets. Other than that, this pump method is great!
